Royal St. Augustine Golf and Country Club
About
Located in Florida’s oldest city, Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country Club offers a glimpse of the area’s lush foliage and native marshlands. The course has a visually interesting layout with elevated, sprawling greens and a variety of bunker shapes and sizes. The moguled fairways and sandy waste areas are two other distinguishing features of the course. It is a tight course with large greens and gentle undulations. The layout provides a “target-golf” experience that puts a premium on accuracy and distance control. The numerous bends in the course in combination with the blustery winds also makes proper club selection very important.

Golfer Reviews
What a change!!
From the worst kept course two years ago it is now up there with the best. From tee through greens and even sand and surrounding brush this course is tough but fun. Improvements are fantastic. Congrats to superintendent and staff.
And I’m not related to any of them.
Needs attention by a qualified professional
This layout is short and narrow. The greens are firm and fast. The green surrounds are grassless and many hard pan areas throughout the course. The oace of play was painful and tediously slow..
Course is in fair condition
More golf carts are needed. If you’re going out after lunch and all the golf carts are already out on the course you might have to wait for a cart to come in off the course before you can go out to play. The quality of food and beverage is lacking, but the staff is very nice And the course is recovered well from last year‘s damage from the heat and lack of water there are still areas that need to be upgraded however, there is work being done around the course to cut back some of the overgrowth. The course plays a little bit slow since there seems to be a lot of beginners out on the track. Overall, it’s a good value and I will return his long as the tea box is in green. Stay in decent condition..
Not good
As someone who is a 5 handicap from the tips. And someone who grew up playing courses with dirt for tee boxes and greens. This is right up there with that. Sorry but the course either needs more work or to make it easier. You can do a lot more for 70+ dollars
Great experience
This is a very tough course especially for beginners. You will lose a lot of balls but if lucky will find replacements.
My wife is just learning and it was great having no one push us. Too many obstacles for a beginner in my opinion.
Felt it was extremely fair price for the condition of the course.
I would play again
Tough course
Played this course with my wife who is learning the game. It was great with no one pushing us. However you need a lot of junk balls, very narrow and LOTS of lost balls!
Staff was amazing and friendly.
If you are a serious golfer you will be disappointed.
If you are a hack like us you will love it.
Felt it was great value for the money!!
Amenities
Once again tried to have lunch the restaurant more or less was closed. The bar was open and hotdog only.
NARROW COURSE
As a beginner golfer (usual score around 102), I would not recommend this course to beginners. Besides that the course is very narrow, it also has a lot of water hazards, along with its share of bunkers. It seems that every hole has at least one water hazard; some have two-one on each side.
Also, some of the greens need work. They had a lot of weed-type growth on them that made your ball jump several times, which of course throws off your alignment.

Excellent course for value and conditions were very good. Staff very accommodating especially Cody. Recommend without hesitation and will play there again
Will definately be back
Great course. Good greens. You can tell they are putting effort into this course. Great value at the moment. I would love to see it again in a few months, spring/summer
Better than expected
We have avoided this course in the past due to some pretty scathing reviews. Lately the reviews seem to be improving so we gave it a chance. We liked it. Sure the course needs some work. What course at this price point doesn’t? if you hit the fairways it plays pretty fair. The layout was interesting and challenging at times. It was well worth the cost. We will come back next time in St. Augustine.
Early in the season
Greens were a little rough from spring growth. It was a windy day so course was a little difficult on long shots. Overall it was enjoyable.
Moguls
You could hit the middle of the fairway and have your ball roll off to one side or the other. Too mogully.
Serious TLC needed!
The coarse layout was good but it is not kept well. The green are very slow and the driving range is the worst I’ve ever seen, just sand. People were friendly but this coarse needs some serious TLC.
Don’t let the starter force you to start on 10
I play here at minimum 1 morning a week, quick 18 to get some swings in. Typically as a single or group of 2. The starter has now 3 times made me go start on 10 instead of just letting me play my tee time. I’m not bothered by the average wait time on holes especially as a solo I get ill be faster. But when they make me start on 10 and then loop to 1 by the time I get back to 1 they are trying to squeeze me in between actual tee times and it ends up being a waste of time and backing up the entire front 9. I book through golf now so if I leave I basically paid for 18 for no reason cuz I can’t rain check it. 3 times now it’s happened.
