Royal St. Augustine Golf and Country Club
About
Located in Florida’s oldest city, Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country Club offers a glimpse of the area’s lush foliage and native marshlands. The course has a visually interesting layout with elevated, sprawling greens and a variety of bunker shapes and sizes. The moguled fairways and sandy waste areas are two other distinguishing features of the course. It is a tight course with large greens and gentle undulations. The layout provides a “target-golf” experience that puts a premium on accuracy and distance control. The numerous bends in the course in combination with the blustery winds also makes proper club selection very important.

My first round in Florida ... never going back to PA :P Photo submitted by Eric3413 on 08/06/2013
Greens were a mess
Greens were not good. Lots of crab grass which made most putts bounce like crazy. The best green was 18. On hole #4 they couldn’t shut off a wide range sprinkler in the middle of the fairway which made the balls stop in the over saturated grass. Then we had to run to grab the ball quickly and drop away from it. Just strange they couldn’t get it fixed. We had a good time but I won’t go back until the greens are in better shape.
THIS COURSE IS FINE - A REAL SHOTMAKERS TRACK
All the bad reviews here are completely OUT OF LINE...this isn’t a champion course, it’s not even a $60+ course that has ample money to dump into the grounds keeping. But this course is one of the most fun challenging neighborhood courses I’ve ever played! The staff treats you like family and the price is perfect for an enjoyable round of shot making holes. There were only a few rough greens that affected my putt in the slightest but besides that ALL THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS are from those who can’t keep a ball in play or read a course layout book to manage their shots. I’ll be back ALL THE TIME! Thanks guys!
100% Dog Track
Ive seen better grass in the median of a Walmart Parking Lot. Ridiculously tight with slopes in middle of fairway that kick you toward hazards. GREENS ARE WORST IVE EVER SEEN. Needs a full renovation. Do not give this course any of your money unless you are a glutton for punishment. What golf nightmares are made of. Ive hit balls in nicer horse pastures.
Save your time and money
The course is horrible shape with the exception of the 16th hole. The fairways are spotty and it doesn’t appear they have a greens keeper because most if not all the greens are lumpy and some portions of the greens don’t have any grass. There are too many great courses in Saint Augustine and Jacksonville to waste your time and money on this one. We paid $49 to play which is a bit pricey for this golf course.
Horrible Condition
Half of the greens are unputtable. Don't waste your money.
Overpriced for poor conditions
Very poor conditions. Very dry. Damaged greens. Some holes looked like a construction site with pipes and shovels out. For being the closest course to St Augustine where tourists regularly come, I expected more. The layout of the course is very confusing as well. Pay more and drive further if you want to golf in the area.
Praying for rain!
Nice course but due to the dry conditions not up to usual standards. Greens are choppy which made putting quite difficult.
Challenging Enough but Frustrating
For visitors and newcomers, the signage to get you from one hole to the next tee box is terrible. The fairways are tight which makes it a nice challenge. However, there is no grass on the fairways or greens which means pitching, chipping, and putting are nearly impossible to do with any kind of accuracy.
I would rather pay more money and enjoy the challenges rather than be frustrated by poor signage and poor conditions.
a good Bargain
This course had to be one of the best when first established. Unfortunately, members left the course as new courses came into the area. The layout is challenging but the course requires more care than management can afford. The staff of 6 people do an excellent job to keep it playable.. i have no problem recommending this course, the cost is more than reasonable.
Management is not good or cooperative and they do not honor golfnow
After booking the tee time on golfnow for $41 when I should up they charged us 49+tax and made us paid at the course. They said that is what shows in the system and that is what their regular price is for tee time. Bottom line they don’t honor golf now when it’s due on the course. Perhaps, paid in full to golfnow might be honored but not sure with that.
I would suggest not to book this course because even after I complaint and showed them the reservation on my golfnow.con app they still will not honor it and rudely said I am free to write a review.
