Course going under
We have played this course several time on vacation over the past couple of years. It’s a disappointment how they have let the course go down. The layout has always been great, but the conditions are some of the worst we have ever seen.
Poor Conditions
The overall course condition was very poor. The lack of maintenance was obvious as you were driving in. Combine that with super slow greens and not enough water on the course to keep you hydrated on a hit day, we quit after 9. Just wasn't going to keep trying it. The staff was over all friendly. I used to be very excited to play one of the cat courses while in town... this one will be off my list.
Not worth the money
Not worth your money. The course has been over run with weeds, grass is growing in bunkers, bunkers aren’t raked, and greens haven’t been cut in quite some time. I don’t mind playing sub par golf courses, but I expect a certain level of conditions based on the price. This course did not meet those expectations. It’s a difficult track and would be a nice layout had course conditions been better. One person in our group needed rentals and he was given a Nike SQ Sumo driver and woods and Nike Slingshot irons. Both of those were probably manufactured 10+ years ago, I’d guess. Staff was extremely nice and helpful though.
Thank you for the nice review.. We are happy to hear you enjoyed your visit and we look forward to seeing you again soon!
PS: All four of the Big Cats courses are actually much improved and we would love to have you come see our progress on any of them!
Thank you very much for the nice review. It means a lot to us when people take the time to post a positive experience. We hope you will visit Leopard's Chase or any of the four Big Cats courses again soon!
Leopards Chase 6/22/2021
Friendly, welcoming staff! Great value for mid morning tee time. Low volume. We had the course to ourselves for most of our round. Bent grass greens were in great shape. Greens were a bit slow, but expected for this time of year. Fairways and greenside chipping areas were in great shape. Bunkers impacted by recent heavy rains in the area. Would love to play again in Spring or Fall when greens are cut lower.
Thank you so much for the nice review! We really appreciate it when people take the time to post a positive experience. All of the Big Cats courses are actually much improved in recent weeks and we expect this trend to continue as we move through the remainder of 2021 and beyond. Thanks again!
Solid value for the money
Look, the Cats take a lot of crap from reviewers, and if your looking for a tour level golf course, you might be disappointed. However, this is a dang good track for 39 bucks in the morning with a discount card or 49 on golf now.
Considering the the rain and the traffic it gets, the course was in good shape. Greens were good, not great, but a step up from Lions Paw. It had rained a lot the night before and it was still 90 degrees, not cart path only as some in the area would be.
Previous time I went, staff was kind of rude, but this time, they were fantastic. Clubhouse is bare bones, but gets the job done.
Back is a lot harder than the first and it’s longer, 3 par 5s and they are all hard, still a fun time. The par 3s are some of the most fair in the area. You can hit it close and make a putt if you hit a good shot.
If you do a big cat, pay a little more and do Leopards or Tigers. Lions Paw and Panthers are ok, but it’s a much better experience on the Tiger and Leopard.
Thank you for the four star review! We really appreciate it!
Greens needed to be cut. The slowest greens I have ever played.
Thank you for the nice four star review.. We agree, Leopard's Chase is an excellent layout and a joy to play. The greens were definitely slower than we normally would like, due to the extreme drought conditions of the last two months. We have finally received some rain in the last week or so and this will enable us to be a little more aggressive with the mowing of the greens. So the speed will be much improved (If the weather continues to cooperate). Even so, bentgrass is very heat sensitive and cannot be mowed to its optimum height in the summer months, as it can be in the fall and spring, and pricing reflects that this time of year. But we can assure you they are slick and fast in the cooler months! We hope you will visit us again soon.
Needs a lot of work
It frustrates me how much the owners have let this course go because it has so much potential to be spectacular. Tee boxes are like litter boxes. Greens were not cut. Rough and fairways were not treated at all.
It’s a challenging course, so from that standpoint it’s worth playing. But I gotta believe there are plenty of courses in OIB that actually care for the course.
Course was a challenge but also very playable. Really enjoyed the course which grabs your eye with its scenery and layout.
Thank you for the nice review. We really appreciate it! Leopard's Chase is definitely one of the most scenic courses in our region and we are glad you enjoyed your visit. We hope you will come again soon and play a round on any of the four Big Cats courses.
Great layout and greens
The course has a great layout. Greens were soft and fair. Fairways were dry and brown, could use some water for sure.
Thank you for the nice Four star Review! WE are happy to hear you enjoyed your round at Leopard's Chase. You are correct, it has been extremely dry in our region over the past 2 months and most of the courses are very brown and dry. Fortunately we FINALLY received some much needed rain and things are greening back up quickly. We hope you will come visit us again very soon!
Fun course, going through tough dry period
Enjoyed a fun round today. The whole staff was really friendly, welcoming and helpful. Going through extreme dry spell in the area, so grass on the short and brownish side. Still good enough shape to hit the ball well though, and great rolls on the shots!
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to Leopard's Chase! You are correct, it has definitely been extremely dry in our area over the past couple of months and many of the courses have struggled with dry, brown areas. Fortunately, we FINALLY received some much needed rain and things are greening back up quickly. We hope you will visit us again soon!
Thank you very much for the 5 Star Review! We are so glad you enjoyed your recent visit to Leopard's Chase and we hope you will come visit us again soon at any of The Big Cats courses
Thank you very much for the nice Four Star review of Leopard's Chase. We certainly agree that it is a fantastic layout. We hope you will come visit again soon and see our continued progress. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for taking the time to review your recent visit to Leopard's Chase. We really appreciate it and we hope you will visit Leopard's Chase or one of the other three Big Cats courses again very soon! Thanks again.
Thank you for the nice Four Star review of your recent visit to Leopard's Chase. We hope you will visit us again soon!
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to Leopard's Chase. We appreciate the feedback. The greens on any course in this region with bentgrass will always be much slower in the summertime, as the sensitive bentgrass needs as much leaf blade and as little stress as possible to help it survive the long hot summer. This type of grass will be at its best in cooler weather, basically fall through spring, when they offer a superior putting surface to any other type of grass, We apologize for the less than desired detail work you described. Finding a willing work force during the pandemic has proven a monumental task, but we are striving to do the best we can to offer good playing conditions despite the many challenges before most businesses during this difficult period. We were unable to aggressively treat invasive weeds during the 8 week long drought of late spring/early summer, but with the recent return of more normal rainfall patterns, we have treated the entire property and we are already seeing improvements in this regard. We hope you will visit us again soon and see our continued progress.
