About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
Always a treat
Played here many times. Love the challenge facing you on every shot. Green complexes are difficult but fun to putt. Course was in best condition I have seen in a long time and like I said the layout is one of the best.
A must play for all golfers.
a real treat in every way
been going here for over 20 years now and it never gets old. phil mickelson and david toms played a match here and called it a quality, PGA caliber layout. college coaches know this is a great place to bring their teams for spring break training and to play top courses.
it's hard to say 'take note of' any particular hole bc they are all so good, but #15 is really a spectacular risk/reward split fairway hole that can yield anything from eagle to 'other'depending on whether you can clear the canyon or not. this hole is famous for yielding a 1, 2, 3, and 4 in the same foursome about 25 years ago!
this is pure golf - no homes, condos, or canals to speak of. it earns the name 'woods' for a reason! worth any drive from anywhere in the state.
Overall Great Day
Have played Pine Barrens a number of times and always enjoy the experience despite the lengthy drive from Largo. As usual, the course provided more than enough challenge and was the winner...again. Our group thought the greens were a tad slower than normal but the undulations and the grain made up for any speed issues. Not overly impressed with the condition of the bunkers..know there are lots to be maintained but could be better..and rakes in the carts?? Probably the main reason most have not been raked by players. Know that we had an afternoon tee time on a busy day but the carts we were given should have been retired long ago.
Still plan to return as often as possible.
World Woods - a true golfing gem
We thoroughly enjoyed our return visit to this magnificent course near Brooksville. Although the green fees are a little on the high side, it is a beautiful layout in excellent condition. Certainly one to put on your bucket list!
Challenging track , and 4 hrs well spent .
Pine Barrens - While the fairways may appear to be forgivng from the teebox, angles into these small and fast, undulating greens are extremely important. Placing the shot on the green is key as this is a course designed to challenge your skill and your entire bag on the approach shot. Once you get it on the dance floor, the remaining putt challenge will not disappoint. I will return for another round, (and some retribution), and I can’t wait.
Great course
Pretty hard, stay in the fairways off the tee if you can. Tees, fairways and greens are great. Greens break like in the big practice green, which is not cut too short. Hit a few putts by the 1st tee to gauge the speed. . Fun time. Pace was quick on a Sunday afternoon. Maybe 3 1/2 hours.
Nice Course
Enjoyed playing this course. Course was in great condition.
World Woods pine barrens course - outstanding
We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to play this superb layout, in excellent condition, and in perfect weather. A memorable day all round.
Great course ....truly special
Wonderful course....a feast for the eye. Not easy but not stupid difficult either. We played the green tees.... around 6400 yds I think. Generous landing areas make most tee shots easier than they might appear at first...like any course if you can just hit it reasonably straight you will be ok. Greens were great.... yes, some of the cart paths were broken up by roots... so what, slow down. Would love to/will return ....can only imagine how beautiful it must be when everything is green/ in bloom.
Best in Florida
Best course we have played in Florida. The course is very well maintain. Greens were immaculate. The staff was helpful and even cleaned my clubs after the round was complete.
Pure Golf, No Frills
We played on Saturday morning, so you are going to pay full price ($120). If you get anything less than that, you are getting a good deal. the layout of both courses is awesome. some of the best layouts in the state. Not as polished as Streamsong, but just as challenging and visually pleasing. Friendly staff, and we ordered food at turn and they delivered to us on the course, which was a nice touch. the clubhouse is a dump, but the course is world class. If you are anywhere near the Tampa area, it is worth the hour drive.
Great course and made me want to play all over again. You have to play smart and conservative at times. If you don’t you will pay a price in strokes. The people were very friendly, helpful and willing to do that little extra. The buildings need a little up dating but I was there for the golf and there it doesn’t fail in the least.
Love playing this track
Course is great shape. They fertilized the greens over a week ago and are leaving them a little longer. But they’re still tough with all the slope and if you leave it on the high side look out. One of my favorites in the area and a must play.
Enjoyable round in less than 4 hours
Played as a twosome and only waited once. Course in great shape. Only con was they were fertilizing the greens.
Pine Valley only BETTER!
This is the second of a pair of jewels in Brooksville FL. Pine Barrens is a must play even if you are 2 hours away. Wonderful mix of holes. Tom Fazio at his best. Play it once and you'll be back.
Great day
Played with 2 groups from out of town Everyone loved the course. We will be back next year for sure!
