About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
Always a Favorite
World Woods - Pine Barrens remains one of the best golf courses in the Tampa market, and has always been one one of my favorite courses. The course was in excellent condition, with the overseed taking well, and consistent throughout the course. The bunkers, that took a beating with the hurricane, have been retuned to good condition. The greens were very consistent and very smooth. My only negative comment would be that the green speeds, maybe 8 on the stimpmeter. They need to be around 10. The last two times I have played here this has been the case, and to be a 5 star facility, the green speeds need to be faster in my opinion.
World Woods is world class
No question, these two tracks are among the best in the world. Not a weak hole on the property. Even the shorter holes require your concentration and attention. The green complexes sit on the earth naturally and perfectly. Superb subtleties in contours along with intense "swoops" make putting a mental exercise.
Probably Fazio's best work.
sand
Beautiful course but if you don't like to play out of the sand, choose the other 18!
What you expect
We return to Florida each year from UK and always play World Woods several times during our month holiday. Everything about this course is what you expect and at the price we paid, it's unlikely to be beaten.
Great course
Great course out in the middle of nowhere! Great shape and not very crowded.
Pine Barrens
Played here on Sat 11/18 for $35 hot deal. Normal price is $69. Course in great shape. Greens slow....I mean slow. It's because of the overseeding. If they were running 8 I'd be surprised. When will they finally make this course world class and add Champions turf to the Pine Barrens greens like the Rolling Oaks. I've played here at least 4 times this year, and always, the Pine Barrens greens are slow or slower than the Rolling Oaks. You come to this facility expecting greatness and these greens on the PB are just not great. I love this place but with these greens on the PB, it ain't world class.
Enjoyable Round of Golf
Although the greens were "shaggy" today and didn't roll as well as I remember from prior rounds, it was an enjoyable day at Pine Barrens. The quality of the shot values on this layout make it so. Not sure if my recollection is wrong, but I seem to recall that these greens were smoother and ran faster in previous years. One of my playing partners (who I met at the first tee and has played here a lot before) agreed with this perspective.
just flat love the place!
I listed this review as avg for course conditions because there was still a bit of sand on the greens from their winterizing....still a fantastic golf experience! I play here often and enjoy it EVERY time!
Disappointed today
One of my favourite courses, but the reasons for my lower rating this time are:
1. Greens had been top-dressed and didn't roll well.
2. A large burn of trees & scrub brush was done that day and created very unpleasant condition for eyes and lungs.
Solution:World Woods should advise GolfNow in advance so that the Warning icon can be posted on the website for those considering booking it.
A Beautiful Challenge
With two high handicapers in tow, t47his hot deal tee time did not allow us enough sunlight to finish. But what a treat! Only hope to be able to return some day.
A great course
From the time I pulled up until I left, I have nothing bad to say about the course. The course is in great shape although the greens are slow, but that does not take away how the rest of the course plays. I'll be back to reclaim my dignity.
Outstanding
Beautiful layout, more than friendly staff, only problem we had was the overseeding of the fairways resulting in cart path only. Made for a long day after a long drive. Would recommend this place any day of the week. Can’t wait to play again.
Pine Barrens
This is one of my favorite courses anywhere. It's just about golf. It fits my eye about how a course should be. It lets you choose how much you want to bite off, with many holes offering different avenues to the hole. Not a bunch of houses around. a great warm-up / practice facility. We always try to arrive early enough to take advantage of this. The course is near perfect for me. If you hit it well you'll be rewarded. If not, pay the price
Every hole is a post card
First time in Florida, and while this is not your typical Florida course, it sure set the bar for the rest of my weekend.
Secluded country location really was nice - there are no houses or buildings in site other than the club house to distract from the beauty of this course. Played the 'must play' Pine Barrens and was not disappointed, challenging and well kept for a that gets this much traffic. Greens were rolling 9-10. With only a few holes where some repair was going on but it did not affect play much.
Super value!
Great golf
This is a premium course, very enjoyable, with plenty of trouble to keep you trying to hitting your best shots. Not easy but great challenge.
Bliss
This has to be the best test of golf in this area, it took over an hour to get there but was worth it.
A fantastic layout in prime condition.
Great course, pathetic staff
Just finished a round there. Had a great time through the front 9, beautiful day, love playing this course. Me and my 4some just wanted to enjoy our time playing and hanging out. The cart girl came around a couple times, we didn't need or want anything. Once we passed her going to hole 12, the cart girl said something very sarcastic to us that put a real sour taste in our mouths. It came across that she was angry at us that we didn't want or need anything from her today. It made the back 9 for us VERY unenjoyable to where we almost didn't even continue. of this is a representation of how this place is run then I will never come back. Which is a shame because I love this course. very disappointed and actually insulted at how we were treated just because a cart girl didn't like that we didn't need anything from her.
