About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
Worth the drive.
Two well designed courses. Great practice facility, putting, chipping and short game areas. Friendly, attentive personnel at every encounter.
Great layout
I played Pine Barrens and I found the layout very interesting and visually intimidatingly. The conditioning of the course was consistent with the nicer courses around Tampa. One surprise was the lack of ball washers on most holes.
Pine Barrens @ World Woods
Easy drive to course, excellent staff the moment I arrived, with beverage carts on course.
Great practice area and 4 practice holes to warm up on. The course was in excellent condition.
A yardage/ hole info book would have been helpful for 1st time players.
A GREAT GOLF COURSE
The Pine Barons golf course is one of the best courses that I have ever played. It was in perfect condition. The fairways and greens were in excellent condition.. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Best Course in Florida
Best Course in Florida lay out outstanding 5 1/2 hours to play no rangers only drawback Pine Valley without the snow !
Seriously good.
Excellent design over a wide landscape, a touch of affordable pine valley for the enthusiasts. Greens a little slow the day I played.
Front 9 is a good warm up for a seriously good back nine but watch out for no. 8 where a pinpoint approach shot is required to a green surrounded by deep bunkers. 4 is a good risk/reward par 5 with options off the tee with a big carry if going for the right side fairway. Very elevated green makes going for it in two a tough shot.
The feature of the course is strategic sand waste areas increasing the challenge and adding to the visual enjoyment. High quality back 9, no more demonstrated than on the short par four 15th that has a green set in a bowl with a fairway to the left and extensive sand waste area in front.
Clubhouse is basic and no gps on Carts but if the golf is most important to you this course will not fail to please. Choose between the black or green tees if you drive it 250+ or 230.
Unique golf facility
World Woods is a unique golf facility with 36 great golf holes, 360 degree practice range, iron range, gigantic practice putting green, short course and warm up holes. I can see why Pine Barrens is always ranked in the top 100 courses you can play. The only negative was the overseeded slow greens. The rest of the course was in great shape.
There are great features throughout this course.
The negative comment for this course relates to the very poor condition of cart paths. In my opinion there is no excuse for the failure to repair them. These conditions have been existing for sometime.
A very challenging course
The course was in great shape, however I found the greens to be a little bumpy and hard to judge the speed. The bunkers, and there are a lot! They are all considered waste bunkers, even those next to the greens, I found this kind of odd. I did enjoy my round and look forward to playing the other course, Rolling Oaks. The starter was helpful with tips and suggested the proper tees for us to play from.
One of the best around!
Pine Barrens is one of my favorite courses in Florida, and easily top 5 in Tampa area. Course is in very good shape, particularly the fairways, which are perfect. Greens good but a little slow, and grainy. Estimate only 7-8 on stimpmeter. Need verticuting or to be cut shorter to reduce grain. Bunkers are all waist areas, but with no one raking, they are virtually impossible to play from because of the footprints and lack of maintenance. These two issues kept me from giving it 5 stars.
Worth the trip. Play both courses and have a great 36 hole experience in one day!
Awesome Track
Both courses are great in their own way. Two completely different designs but always in great shape and lots of fun. I'm a 7 cap and play a green black combo typically. Highly recommend PB and RO.
Feb 18th, 2017 World Woods Pine Barons course
Course was in beautiful shape, greens were moderate speed and not too fast. Always love to play this course!
High Quality Experience
The day started with great customer service in the parking lot through the pro shop and then ... GOT BETTER when the golf started. The course was in splendid condition based on the dry weather prior to our playing there.
Best public access course in Florida
A superb course that provides a true test of golf. Played off the white tees which was ideal for my 12 handicap. Greens were in great shape and had to be treated with respect. Great welcome and the starter was very attentive and friendly. We will be back.
keep it in the fairway
Lots of sand not a lot of water greens have plenty of contour lots of really interesting holes well worth the drive even from Orlando.
Nice course. Wide and wooded. Nice greens. But honestly for a top 100 course, I would expect conditions to be better. Area around tee boxes were neglected. No GPS on carts. And really expensive.
Wow
If you like nature and a great golf course for a good deal. There is no place better!!! The layout of this golf course is Amazing, there's no wonder why it's on all the top 100's and listed as one of the most beautiful courses. If this course was in a major metro area you would be looking at a $300+ round. MAKE THE DRIVE, IT'S WORTH IT!!! I've played well over 100 courses across the country and many that cost more this was by far my favorite, immaculate conditions to go with the beauty and great course design Fazio's best work!!
