About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
Superb conditions, never dissappoints
I've played the Pine Barrens course over a dozen times and always have had a great experience. World Woods will always be about the course and the game - the club house has no frills, although the pro shop is well-stocked and they have a nice beer selection. The starter and cart girl were exceptionally friendly and attentive. The course layout is spectacular and impeccably maintained - these are some of the best summer golfing conditions you will find in Florida. Greens roll true, tee boxes and fairways are lush and the rough is distinctly cut between the fairways and natural areas. In west central Fl, the only other public course that can compare is Southern Hills Plantation.... but World Woods is abut half the cost and there are NO houses at WW. Keep up the great work!!
This course was a lot of fun!
There was a lot of room to think and the calm sound of wildlife made it easy to clear your mind to make the right choice of shot. We had a relaxing round.
Outstanding
As good as it gets on a great track. Played at 1:30 and had the course to ourselves. Mak sure you play the right tees as this is a very tough layout. Good luck.
Pine Barrens
Nice course, because of the amount of people pace can. Be slow at times. The Rangers try to do a good job and keeping the pace of play at 4hrs, but it is difficult to do depending on the groups in front of you. Course was in good condition. The greens were very nice. It's a pretty tight track. If your driver isn't on, then I would make sure you use a wood or iron to stay in the fairway.
Course is in good shape
Pine Golf course was in good shape. Greens were a little slow but expect this after all the rain.
Beautiful Layout-Great Challenge
Have played Pine Barrens a few times before. Got a great rate due to a hot deal. Greens were aerated 3 weeks ago so not quite as fast as in previous visits. However, played Rolling Oaks last year and the greens were terrific. This is a great layout visually and unlike most courses in Florida due to many elevation changes. It's a target golf course. You need to hit the fairways or you'll end up in very high overgrown rough or waste bunkers. Still one of the best places to play in Florida.
Course has a great layout
Pine Barrens has a great layout , tee boxes and fairways are excellent , greens a little bumpy and slow from being punched , part of golf that happens, everyone was very nice and enjoyed our lunch between our 2 rounds, even let us start about 1 and half our earlier for our 2 round , will be back
Best course in the Tampa area
I've played just about every course in the Tampa Bay area and Pine Barron is by far the best. They aerated the greens recently therfore the course condition rating of 4 stars. Regardless it was money well spent.
World Woods
Challenging at times, greens are large so you have to get a shot close to the pin to get par.
Pine Barrons
Nothing bad to say about this course except the waste areas lived up to their name, terrible lies. Course is is top conditions right now, see pic of fairway lies, greens are verticut but not affecting the line or speed. Three putted last hole for an 80. Must play course.
WOW! Just beautiful!!!
From the moment you turn into the access road to the course it is just beautiful. The course is set in the woods of rural Brooksville and has many elevation changes, it reminded me of courses in my home state of Maine. There are no homesites on this course, enjoy the privacy and the views. The layout is perfect, there is no confusion about which fairway is which---plenty of trees separating them. The bathrooms are nice and plentiful. Got stuck behind a slow foursome for a few holes, but then got caught is a thunderstorm and had to wait it out for 30 minutes. I can't wait to go back and play the Oaks and the 9-hole courses.
Great course...!!
Scenic, challenging, fun, have been here before, will be here again, recommend this course to everyone. Greens were fast, fairways plush, sand everywhere....nice day, come enjoy this great course...
A must play!!!
Pine Barrens layout is incredible! The large greens were challenging and fun.
World Class Course
This is a great golf course. Excellent layout, great practice facility and it was in great condition. Greens were running at about 9 witch is pretty fast for Florida in the summer and the tees and fairways were in the excellent shape. Bunkers were being restored after 2 inches of rain the previous day but were still playable. Overall, a great day
Excellent conditions
The tee's, fairways and greens were absolutly perfect! A ranger kept telling told us we fell behind although we had a good gap on the group behind us and ended up on 4 hour flat.
After reading reviews I expected the course to be more challenging and to "stand out" more then it did. It was the conditions and nice company (thank you George and Jim) that made the day special.
The tired mens room and the single shower with mainly cold water was nothing to cheer about.
Relaxing afternoon on scenic course
Course in general was in good shape, greens are always on the slow side but they have some tough undalations and the pins were in some tough places to get to. Two foursomes in front of us were snail slow, so the ranger gave us the option to switch over to rolling oaks side. This turned into a good move as we played the front in 2:40 and when we switched came in just under 2 hours.
The practice facilities are top shelf and the staff was vordial and friendly. Would recommend the 45 minute drive from Tampa to play here.
Fun and challenging
My wife and I enjoyed the course. Staff was very friendly and the course was in great shape. It's a challenging course, but also one that rewards you for hitting good shots. We will definitely play the course again.
Still a great venue
Still a great venue. They just di punch the greens which made it tough to putt but you still have to hit the shots. We had a foursome in front of us that seemed to want to wait entirely too long to hit their shots but still enjoyed our round.
Go to course for this summer
You really get what you pay for at this facility. From tee box to green the course was it great shape. The layout is extremely fun and challenging. I will definitely be playing there again soon.
Welcome to anywhere but Florida
Form the tee box on one you would have no idea you were in Florida. Course is always in great shape. Staff is very helpful. One of the best practice facilities I have ever seen. Get there early to take advantage of it. Plenty of room in the fairways, but plenty of trouble to get into with a wayward shot. Always one of the best if not the best conditioned courses in the area. I play here as often as I can. Greens roll true. Waste areas can be deep but are fair. Turkeys,Hawks deer and other wildlife are everywhere. Always a great day at WW.
