About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
World Woods Pine Barrons
Totally worth the trip. Still a top 25 golf course in USA in my book. Closed until June 10th for airifacation, give it 30 days and go enjoy. You don't want to miss this one
Where are the Rangers?
Good weather and course however spoilt by a 4.75 hour round (in cart!) Saw two rangers at #1 hole @ 2;30pm and never saw one again resulting in mind boggling waits. Not impressed.
Pine Barrens
Lots of sand, course reminds me of Bethpage Black.
Condition good, maybe too much sand, greens roll true but are difficult to read.
Bad bunker blues
I wish both courses on this property would take care of the bunkers around the greens. Waste areas I get it there's a lot of them and it's possibly too much. But the greenside bunkers should be raked daily preferably before the first person gets stuck in it. Both times I played once at 9a.m. on rolling oaks and 1p.m. for Pine Barrens ( different days). The bunkers had not been raked by staff in days from what I could tell. Very disappointing as bunkers are tough enough for the resort golfer.
hole in one
This was a great course and was very challenging.
I excited to say that I shot my first hole in one on the 10th green of the Pine barren course.
Great track that lives up to its reputation.
I booked a tee time through GN because of the old reviews on their web site. I wasn't disappointed, this course has some great holes, lots of variety and its in excellent shape. I would come back again and again!
As good as the advanced publicity
I played Pine Barrens with my wife and another couple over with us on vacation fron England. My wife and I had played Rolling Oaks three times, but this was our first visit to Pine Barrens. We booked through golf now an although I had read some negative reviews about how the staff treated Golf Now customers we found every one friendly and helpful. There were plenty of tee options and we took the starters advice to play off the Whites. The course is a brilliant layout and was in excellent condition with the greens quick and true. We had not played a course before with all waste areas rather than bunkers, but soon got used to it. I don't think there is a weak hole on the course and provided you play off a tee that fits your ability level you will have a great day. We will certainly come back whenever we are in Florida
Excited to play but disappointed
On a vacation in Tampa. Drove the 1.5 hours and was sorely disappointed.
Pro shop and tee staff were great. Grounds crews another story. Idling while teeing off. Grill left something to be desired.
Course was in horrible shape. Fairways ripped up. Sand was hard as rock and greens in ok shape.
For what I paid, I was expecting a better experience.
Good Course
Course is in good condition. I will play here again.
Phenomenal Course!
One of my favorite courses I've ever played. Course is in terrific shape, stunning holes, beautiful layout. Definitely worth the drive.
Setting the record straight.
I have played the courses around the north tampa area for over ten years. I have four classifications: 1)You could not pay me to play 2)Play when
winter prices are high 3)pay a little more, but still good value. and 4)top courses that I hope GOLF NOW gives me a good price.
Of the 10 to 12 courses in catagory "4" ,WORLD WOODS consistantly remains in the top 4. This doesn't mean they are tops every year.A storm one
year and a long hot drought another year kept the course from ideal, but most other area courses were having as much or more problems.
Before I played the course last week I read reviews. The one that caught my eye,l lets say was not good, and I can only conclude he wanted to keep
other golfers away so he could have tee times. Or mabybe he just han a bad day.
Conditions So-So
Greens/Tee Boxes/Fairways could have been in better condition. I was surprised this course was ranked as a top course in Florida to be honest. A nice layout, the back 9 was easier on the eyes than the front.
Needs some improvement
Was impressed with facility last year when we played Rolling Oaks and had to return to play Pine Barron's. It was a totally different experience this year. Unfriendly in pro shop. Cart guy was not helpful with direction and the starter was just plain rude! Pace of play was awful. Will not return. On a good note, the practice area is excellent. But was not in good shape.
Best Place to play in Brooksville
I have played here many a time and i never get bored. It is my favorite place to play in the couple of states i have played in my 15 years of golfing. the course is in great shape all the time, winter through summer, the wild life on and around the course is amazing, the flowers, trees, bushes are always kept up. Roger the manager is an amazing guy who will make sure to help you to no end.
this is a must play course and if you think it was too difficult then play the course right next to it Rolling Oaks just as beautiful... hole #8 is a great par 3
pine barrens
great course, but not in the condition it was several years ago. Maybe that is why the cost is less. Still a good value at the discounted rate.
not close to anything is a drawback. and they closed the grill -bar somewhat early. Had to find a place to settle bets, get beers ,etc. 1/2 hr. away.
Tampa or Orlando trip has to include World Woods
If you like interesting, scenic golf courses with no homes on it, this is your course. Plus, it's a Tom Fazio design, and Fazio, as far as I can tell, doesn't do bad golf courses. One of two terrific layouts at World Woods, Pine Barrens is modeled somewhat after Pine Valley, which, of course, most golfers never get to play. I'm included in that group, so I couldn't really make the comparison, but judging it on its own merits, it's a winner in every way, There are elevated tees, big undulating greens and bunkers and waste areas everywhere, although many of them really aren't in play. Locals have been coming to World Woods for years, but any visitors to the Tampa Bay or Orlando area should definitely consider making the drive out there. It's well worth it.
Thinking Man's Course
green fees ran from $60-$80; I booked on-line as a singleton for $45; I'm 65 yrs old with an 11 hdcp and shot an 85 from the white tees (5800 yds). waste bunkers define the shape of most holes; a good number of holes require strategy of the tee shots to position you best for your approach shots; greens have character and were fast but the slopes and speeds were not severe. good practice facilities; basic clubhouse. definitely worth playing!
trouble with the greens
Lots of white fertilizer on the greens, winter rye never caught, Unfortunately not very much grass. Sorry. I love the course
