About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
Best course yet!
Took my 12yr old son out to play. We stayed on the property for 11 hours!! 36 holes of immaculate golf course conditions..3 hole practice course...pitching and putting greens everywhere!!! Cant wait to go back!
Lil lefty
always good
The coarse as always was in great condition. Sand could use a little work but playable. Course pace was good, saw ranger 4 times in 18.
One of the best
So far It was the best course I played in Florida. The fairways are like carpets and the greens are in super excellent condition. The staff are super friendly. The group behind us are very patient not like the other courses I played.
exceeded expectations
All the build up and hype is well deserved. One of the most impressive courses I have ever played. Played the white tees and it was still a challenge. Will do better next time as a bit of course knowledge will be helpful. Cant wait to play it again and try Rolling Oaks course.
Great Course
Great course with ample fairways and large greens. Extremely well maintained, along with the sister course Rolling Oaks. Played Pine Barrens this week due to aeration of the greens on Rolling Oaks (I usually play Rolling Oaks)
Great Course greens were OK
This is one of my favorite courses. The staff is very helpful. Sunday afternoon was hot, but very few other people on the course. The greens were aerated about 3 weeks ok. They were good, pretty fast, but still had some bumpiness. 2 more weeks and some rain and they should be back to normal
Pine Barrons
Was able to book afternoon hotdeal for a great price and virtually had the course to myself. Played in about 2.5 hours not in any rush playing through one foursome. Course layout great, conditions very good from fairways to greens, greens rolled nice at medium speed almost fully recovered from aeration. Golf nirvana. Side not Rolling oaks has just undergone heavy aeration from tees to greens, its playable but putting is inconsistent.
Pine Barrens
If you are within 2 hours of this course its worth the drive. I have been fortunate enough to play many of the top 100 and this is the best value you will get inside the top 100. It was $40 to play.
Great value if you are in the area
The first tee was backed up 20 minutes behind schedule and overall pace of play was not excellent. They pack them in every 8 minutes and appear to allow groups larger than 4. Good greens and fairways for the money. The waste areas and tee boxes could use more maintenance. It was not what I would expect for a Golf Digest top 100 public rating, however the total World Woods facility offers an incredible variety of options for practice and play.
great layout
Greens were aerated about a week earlier, so our green fees were only $30.
Miss U Snowbirds!
Played 18 holes of golf on Pine Baron for the first time Feb. 10th 2014 for the tune of one hundred nine $109.00 dollars.
After booking on GOLF NOW, Teed it up yesterday afternoon on Pine Baron for TWELVE $12.00 bucks.
(Inestimable) aka PRICELESS!!!
Golf Nirvana
Third time for me at World Woods, second time on Pine Barrens. Awesome conditions, Staff was great, actually charged me less than what I was supposed to pay based on my booking through golf now, allowed my wife and I to go out as a twosome, no one behind us, people in front kept pace. Just a great day except for my score. Usually I shoot in the low 80's but shot a 95 and did not care as I just enjoyed the course to its fullest. Fazio at its best. The 14th is a real mind blower. This course is like going to golf heaven. Hats off to the staff and especially the grounds crews.
Best course
Pine Barrens Course it was a great day and there is not a thing I can say neg. about the course. Thank you so much for a great DAY! World woods!
Fun Track
Great layout and friendly staff however fairways were not in the best condition.
Great fun challenging course
Course is good shape - Greens excellent. Enjoy the course by not playing it too far back. Golf Now Hot Deal rate $20 + fees.
Worth the long drive
I was told this place was worth the longer than normal journey time, and I was glad I made the trip. Visually delightful, and 18 good solid holes which will test everybody. I will be back
great course
Great place. Awesome facility. Very friendly staff. Extremely enjoyable round of golf. Will definitely be back even though its a 2 1/2 hour drive.
The hype vs the reality
World woods has a reputation. Whether it's through word of mouth or the rating as one of best in the country, it gets hyped up. Going into your round, your expecting a world class course and that's where they get you. The course is great condition and the greens(less two or three with some minor work) are near perfect but it fails in leaving you "wowed". 12 and 15 were really the only two holes that were aesthetically unique. 4 makes you think. The course is actually pretty wide with a great hole layout. You're made to feel that it's narrow due to the waste areas but its really not the case.
The course is really great but I was expecting more and left still hungry. If I paid full price @ $100+ then I would be really disappointed. @ $45, it's a good deal.
Brooksville cc is close by and leaves a more lasting impression.
Tip: you got 20 mins before your time and you have your rush your warm up. Hit some balls right?...stop right there and go to the putting greens. The greens are fast and take time to figure out. Trust me.
well worth the drive
Course was well layed out, fast greens, challenging as well
