About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
Very cool layout
Great layout. Not a boring hole to be found. Visually stunning course. Tough but fair. Greens were firm and quick. My only complaint would be that none of the bunkers were raked but I think that's part of the spirit of the course as they're considered waste areas. I will definitely play there again on my next trip to Florida.
pine barrens
Worth going to even if you have to travel.I live close by and golf now is the only way to go.
Great Course
Simply one of the best public courses in Florida. Challenging, but fun. Highly recommend.
great course but watch out
Here is the thing. It's a great course, but the severe slope in the greens can cause the pin placements to get a little silly. My partner hit two great shots on a hole (10 feet pin high) and tries to lag for a two put - no chance, he three putted.
Course is a true test of golf
Course was in great shape. Great test from all tee boxes. Elevation changes on many holes. Greens on great shape. I had the feeling I was in northern michigan instead of Florida.
A Must Play
This is a great course fantastic layout
A well run facility
If your playing golf in this part of Florida
Don't skip World Woods more expensive
Than other courses in the area but worth
Every Penny.
Fantastic Place
The Pine Barrens course was in great shape. The staff was efficient and helpful from greeting to exit 4 hours later. This is a great course with some beautiful scenery.
Must play!
Hope to return to play the other course, which is supposed to be at least as nice. The main challenge were the tricky greens, get it wrong and see your ball roll a long way the wrong way! Pretty course, Personnel very helpful and correct. Probably not the mmost appropriate course for real beginners.
Very tough
The average golfer probably wouldn't have much fun playing this course. Waste areas and forced carries everywhere make for a tough round. I played in a 25 mph wind that made it even tougher.
Late Jan. 2015 Round
Exceptional course. Practise facility is awesome.
Check in was fine and starter was very accommodating.
Fairways were cut to appropriate level. Greens ran very true and fast. Lots of undulations and note to stay below the hole. Pin spot #1 is the toughest I am told out of the 6 given. All carts have card with pin positions.
Hit tee ball very well which assisted in playing the course well.
Definitely play this course when you're in the area.
excellent course
I will do the course again/
Very nice course and happy to play
top quality
very tough pin placements on large undulating greens
verg good expsfince. would come back
layout is not the usual florida style ....most enjoyable.will be back
for low handicap a must play
Fantastic !!!!!
Iv played at world woods many time and always try and play both courses you wont find much better than this !!!!! will be back !!
Try and play Southern hills plantation !!!
xcellent course
Great tract... unlike most Florida courses - lots of elevation...outstanding course conditions.... visually appealing... practice facility is excellent.... and good value for the money... one of the best I've played in Florida.
Best in area
Rated in the top 10 of all daily fee courses in Florida by Golf Digest in January 2015, Pine Barrens deserves its ranking. A beatifully-desinged course set in an absolutely gorgeous area, it couldn't be better. Located 1+ hour north of the Tampa Airport, it's definitely worth the drive. -- DCK
Very nice
This course is extremely well-kept. I still a beginner and this was the first course I have played like this. I would play it again and recommend it.
Best Golf Value
Great course. Always in top shape. No houses, swimming pools or tennis courts. Just pure top notch golf courses.
A Must Play
This was the second time playing Pine Barrens and is a wonderful course. It is well worth the drive to play and reminded me of playing Pinehurst (but for a fraction of the cost), and the practice facilities alone are worth a visit.
