About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
Amazing
Very tough course but a must play! This is a great place to go! Worth the money!
Great Course
We loved everything about the course....equally matches it's partner Rolling Oaks, with each having it's own unique personality.
A good challenge in excellent condition
A bit of journey North from Tampa but very easy to find just off highway 589. Lots of variation in hole layout. Obviously lots of trees as the name suggests but only a little water. For us the most interesting aspect was the greens which were in great condition and with difficult pin positions you had to putt well to get it close. Overall a very enjoyable experience.
Maintenance nightmare
First time playing this course. The course itself was very nice, not particularly challenging but enjoyable. We teed of at 9:45am and from holes 2-11 we had significant course maintenance present, on some holes as many as 3 lawnmowers and 6 guys. We even had to nicely ask on one green, twice, if they could keep there conversation down so we could putt. Finally at hole 12, approximately 12:40 we got some piece and quiet for the rest of the round. I play a lot of golf and this place was noisy and busier with maintenance then grand central station, and they were very rude, never witnessed anything like this and hopefully will not again. Really ruined the day for us and with a 4:45 hour pace of play on a Wednesday didn't help.
good challenge for any level
My wife and I played Pine Barrens and found the course to be in great shape. I hope you like sand, because this course has it everywhere.
Well placed shots are rewarded with scoring opportunities, just don't get overconfident. this course can bite back.
Not a great course for beginners.
Loved every bit
Came into town looking for some good Florida golf. This place has everything I thought a Florida course would have. Loved everything about it!
Great Fazio design
A great layout that challenges all levels of skill. Hardly any water on the course but the use of waste bunkers and undulating greens present plenty of challenge. It is worth traveling out of your way to play. This course, you won't be disappointed.
Great day
Great course. Staff courteous. Round time good. Great experience.
Highly recommend
I had some friends coming to FL to escape New England weather and I was looking for a course in the greater Tampa area to play with them. I read some reviews about World Woods so I decided to try it out. I was not disappointed. Course was in great shape. Challenging, tough but fair layout. Pace of play was perfect. Very friendly and accomodating staff. Would highly recommend this course to any golfer. People that like and appreciate the game will really like this course.
Special course
Great lay out from back tees, but have tees for all standard we paid 55 dollars including taxes was worth every dollar in in Orlando would be 120 so great value , from Orlando 2 hour drive but worth it when you get there as they say in Scotland a hidden gem , greens were fast and true and great overall condition will play again , Enjoy.
Great golf course
Excellent course. Very challenging and enjoyable course. You have to work to score but still enjoyable for the high handicapper.
If Pine Barren had glory...it is now former.
Fortunately we got a golfnow price otherwise we would have been quite unhappy. First it's a long drive from anywhere to get to World Woods. So it has to be worth it right. The practice area was atrocious. We had to hit off bare sand..no grass. We don't expect opulence in clubhouses but this place was just tired. The dining room is more like a cafeteria. On the good side the course was demanding with treachous greens. One quirk generally you don't rake waste bunkers of which there are many but it's sometimes difficult to distinguish between the waste and regular bunkers here. Consequently the regular bunkers go unraked causing difficult situations. Just saying.
Disappointing
The course was not marshalled and we spent most of our day waiting to golf. Very frustrating when you pay expensive fees and you are disappointed. If someone had been controlling the flow it would have been a much more enjoyable day
Really good course
I played WW Pine Barrens. The course has some unique features: fairways are lined with tall pine trees, lots of waste areas, no sand traps, and surprising elevation changes. The course was definitely challenging for a first time player, however, most of the fairways are generous so there was a fair degree of forgiveness for the offline shot. Greens rolled well but had subtle breaks that a first timer would not be aware of. This place is about the golf, not the ambiance or the clubhouse (definitely tired looking).
A Must play!
Great fairways and greens, a challenging yet fun course to play. I'm a beginner and played from the White tees. Beautiful layout.
Above the rest
We play regurlarly on courses which get 4 stars by other players. Wold Wooods golfclub with the Pine Barrens really stands out from the crowd. Very well maintained and spectacular in terms of vies from the tee.
A special positive remark is for the starter and marshalls. They are really more friendly and nice, but also proud , of their course than many others we have met during this holiday trip in the Gulf Coast.
The only criticism is the state of the locker rooms, run down and in need of an upgrade soon.
Awesome
This golf course is outstanding. Can play to any level by what tee you play. Every hole is special. Golfers dream.
Played it forward on Pine Barrens
Came to World Woods with a 3rd player only having a time for two. Accommodated us that day and made us feel like that was no problem. Really appreciated this! Our 3rd was "rusty" and other was a 23 handicap so we moved up to the "whites" Had an awesome day playing from those tees. Course was still tough but was fun to avoid some trouble I was in past rounds played from the back tees. Continues to be a "lifetime" experience spending hours out playing World Woods
A great round of golf on a great day!
The fairways were manicured and in great shape.
The tee decks were in super shape and the greens were also. Greens were a touch slow that day!
Many difficult holes and you will need to place your ball. Great for the target shooter.
Pace of play a little slow but probably related to the great weather that day.
100% worth the long drive to play this course.
Go experience it, you will not be disappointed.
Top course I played in all the Tampa area.
Great Course
Beautiful Course, very playable with a friendly and helpful staff. It's worth putting this course on your itinerary if planning a trip to the Tampa area.
