About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
Diversity, Elevation and Challenges
We love World Woods -- and both courses. The fairways and greens are in great shape. Both courses offer diversity due to elevation changes and challenges that require course management to score well. The staff really takes the experience over the top! We've been treated with fantastic service from checking in, to the restaurant and golf course staff. A great destination for an enjoyable golf experience.
Great Course for the money
If you want a true golf experience without houses around you than this is a golf club for you. All there is golf and what a golf course. It was in perfect condition and the greens didn't even look like people have even used them. For 59 dollars you can't beat that deal. Truly one of my favorite courses I have ever played.
Nice greens and layout
The course is in excellent condition. It was a great value since we got a deal in golfnow. I recommend checking the website for deals. The pace of play was slow (it took us close to 5hrs to finish 18 holes).
not as good as anticipated
course was enjoyable but not special by any means, all sand areas not raked in weeks, compacted by rain, footprints everywhere, too much course for the current operation
clubhouse outdated
short course nice, range ok, putting course not of same speed as course holes
i couldnt decide if to recommend the course or not
Great course but too slow pase
Course was very good design .
I could enjoy very much.
Facility is general level and staff is also.
There was course General but they don't
Work so much. Then it took 4.5 hr to play.
But I want to play again.
Good Course NOT Great.
Some spots on greens, greens speed a little inconsistent. Fairways could have been better. Most unfriendly clubhouse staff. Overall disappointed because of high expectations.
Gorgeous course, great layout
Played Pine Barrons; challenging course ; great layout.
MUST PLAY if you are in the Tampa area!
Pine Barrens
As usual, the course was challenging and in excellent condition. We plan on going back to World Woods to play their other courses.
There's a reason it's top 100
Always awesome and a challenge. I seem to play this better than Rolking Oaks though becaus I like fast greens. Rolling a 12
Wonderful day at Worldwoods
Great course. Conditions of the course were good. Fun and Challenging layout. Worth the price to play.
this is what golf should be
great challenging course, great conditions.paired up with a couple that didn't play the right tees but that was the only down side but they were very friendly.pone barrens id the better of the two courses.if you can get this less than $30 jump on it
Worth the Trip
Totally different day from Mondays round at Rolling Oaks...and course too. Very cool in the morning...but the sky was clear...sun was shinning and the wind was soft. Turned out to be a beautiful day. You just have to play the course...it was awesome. The starter on Pine Barrens...and the ranger...2 awesome men!!! It was so cold at 9am...we talked for a while on the tee. Then I felt like I had the course to myself. So much character...so many challenging drives...holes...greens...but fair. As I played the ranger would come by and we would sit and talk for a few. He always offered tips about what was coming up and where to play the ball. Even the guys in the pro shop were awesome. Great day...great time at a great track!!!
No Disapointment
Always look forward to World Woods.
Playing since the 90s and it improves
each season.
A day at World Woods
Wonderful Fazio tract.Greens superb, need to work on waste areas. I know they are sand areas considered waste but i don"t think Tom intended tire tracks and piles of dirt. My playing partner even fell in one. Trenches of sand. unplayable and he is a player.Fairways and greens were perfect though. For a premium course the oversight on the edges were a little dissapointing. Good day though. Will return.
Always a treat to play.
My favourite course in the central Florida region. Shot values are outstanding and the course conditions have always been excellent when I play during the winter season.
true beauty
fast greens.... beauty fairways....tough but fair ...stay in the short grass....RANGERS NEED TO RELAX....IF THERE IS NO ONE BEHIND YOU,,,YOU ARE NOT HOLDING ANYONE UP....THIS COURSE IS HARD AND BEAUTIFUL ENOUGH WITHOUT YOUR POWER TRIP
This is a great course with challenging greens
Super practice faculty, recommend spending some extra time on the putting green. The club house is nothing to rave about but I spend my time on the course. One of my favorite courses in Florida. I also love the short course and practice holes. Friendly staff, book throught ap and save a bundle!
As good as they say.
Fantastic course. Brilliant design, course conditions perfect. Unbelievably difficult fast undulating greens.
Not one flat pin position!!
A great challenge, can't wait to return and play again plus rolling oaks course.
