About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
Pine Barrens
Played on Sunday 11/16 at 11:30am. $39.00. Weather was perfect. Course conditions: Fairways: Good, overseeded Tees: Good, overseeded, a little bit shaggy but not bad. Greens: Good 9.5 on the Stimp I'd say, overseeding completed last month. The course is in overall great shape very green conditions. Get out there now because the snowbirds are headed south.
Good experience
Overall good experience. It's a nice mature picturesque tract to play. Excellent practice facilities. Tee boxes, fairways and greens well maintained. If the course where local to me I'd make it a regular rotation. Purchased my tee time through GolfNow.com and I saved $10 per golfer.
Always in he top 100 for a reason!!!!!!!!!!!
Pine Barrens at World Woods is an awesome track. The setting is rural just outside of Brooksville. The facilities from the practice side to playing are always impeccable. We live about 40 miles south, however, we always take advantage of their specials, it's worth the gas
UNDULATING GREENS
EXCELLENT COURSE DESIGN AND LAYOUT.
LOCATION IS QUIET, JUST YOU AND THE COURSE.
PIN LOCATION WAS # 3 - GREENS ARE VERY UNDULATING. PIN LOCATION ON HOLES' 4, 8, & 15 WERE BRUTAL!!!
ENJOYED THE COURSE AND LOOK FORWARD TO COME BACK.
Staff Ruined The Experience
My first time here, and probably my last. On vacation and playing 5 different courses. I drove 1 1/2 hours to get to Pine Barrens and was really looking forward to playing. The course was as advertised, but after 4 holes a course marshal drove up and berated the other members of my group for "slow play". We had just completed 4 holes in under an hour! We were on pace for a 4 hour and 15 minute round and this jerk pulled out this piece of paper and scolded them because there was a gap between us and the group in front of us. The group in front of us was a twosome and had already finished the first hole before we ever tee'd off.
I'll never come back. Golf is about enjoyment, not about how fast you can race through a course.
Thinking Man's course.
We bought stay and play package and played both the courses. If you love golf you will love worldwoods. Both course layouts are excellent and on every hole you have to think on where to hit and which side to miss your shot. We played Green tees so we found the course to be moderately difficult but the back tees (both yellow and black) can be very challenging because all the trouble off the tee comes in to play. If you go there you must play both the courses, two distinctly different courses. The staff was very friendly (hint: buy their stay and play package) and shut down the 3 hole practice course for us so we could organize bigbreak style skills challenge. Over all we had lot of fun and will go back there again.
Played 54 holes and never lost the ball. :-)
Good conditions
Looked forward to playing but course management by me not very good-a few holes got the best of me-would like to try it again.
Pine Barrens
Pine Barrens is always on our choice of courses along with Rolling Oaks for a 36 hole day of golf. The Barrens is a must play.
Perfect day
Been going to Orlando for quite some time now, and always thought about making drive to World Woods, and play Pine Barrens, but 62 miles and 1-1/2hr drive always seemed to much.
Finally decided on my birthday to take the drive and play, Why did I wait!
From the drive up to the lane to a clubhouse that just fit into the golf course, to the staff that was cheery and attentive, it just sat the table for a wonderful day.
The course although a little dry was great ,never a bad lie in fairway and greens were just a little on tricky side. Every hole a new experience to play. The two holes that were almost the same were the tough finishing holes on front and back nine.
Will be back again .
This is not resort golf, this is how golf was meant to be played, carved out fairways , greens that make you think but are fair, plenty of sand , wildlife everywhere. I can see why this course is rated so high. Don't wait like I did it is well worth the drive.
Pace of play
World woods is still an excellent value. Greens are good but need to be faster for more enjoyment. Pace of play is awful. They have a starter and marshal, but why? starter makes you wait to long to tee off, there pin out policy does not speed up play, he does not give any instructions on course manners or pace of play. there was a marshal but never saw him after first hole and he most definitely did nothing to speed up play at any time
Now that is what I call a Golf Course
What a fantastic golf course in great condition. It looked great in every aspect, good tees, good fairways, good greens, what more is there.
Best I've Played
World Woods is simply the best courses in the Tampa Bay area, probably one of the best anywhere. Perfect conditions, great layout, what more can anyone ask.
Great place to play. !!!
Staff were Very very courteous. Course was great and greens are like playing a tour event.
Great Course
Always a fun time playing any course at World Woods. This is the best though. Always in great shape, always a good time.
Good Layout
Florida version of Pine Valley. Wish greens were Champions Verde so they could be a little faster.
Pine Barrens
Fairways were like the ball sitting on the carpet in the living room. Greens still healing from aeration but rolled consistently well.
Beautiful tree lined golf course
Very good course in beautiful surroundings, tree lined fairways with tricky greens, staff very friendly.
Course is about 1 hr 30 from Orlando but well worth a visit.
good round
rain was on and off and looked bad all day,but we were able to get round in. slow play on front, held us up causing group behind us to press us. stopped at turn and grabbed quick bite and let it clear out ,back was much better.very tough if you are 1st timer lots of trouble with lots of bunkers. greens were true. overall a good test of your skills
Yes!
Played world woods on a Sunday afternoon at noon. Course wasn't busy but was in excellent condition. Love the variety in the two courses. Greens weren't overly fast but fast enough and rolled true. Will play again soon before it gets super expensive :)
Great experience @ Pine Barrens
Course is in excellent condition. The greens were just fertilizer, but rolled true. Staff was very friendly.
