About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
What a deal
Booked through Golf Now and found a hot deal for $18. Along with a discount it turned out to cost $24 for both me and my partner. Played 3 hole warm up course which is a very nice touch. Played Pine Barrens and the course was in great shape. Staff was very friendly and starter sent us to #10 to start to help speed up the round. Only thing that could've made it better was if I would've played better. If you're visiting the Tampa/Brooksville area and only have one round of golf you can play do yourself a favor and make it at World Woods. You won't be disappointed.
Always fantastic
Always a great round whether you play rolling oaks or pine barrens. Course is in fantastic shape. Greens are rolling quick yet are receptive to long irons. Always a treat the on course staff is super friendly and extremely accommodating. I absolutely suggest this place to anyone.
Great course
It was in great shape. The greens were a tad slow but you can't cut them low and speed them up in the Summer heat. They were smooth and rolled well. What a great layout.
Best course I've ever played...
but it kicked our butts! I can see why this is a top course in the area. Was very well manicured/maintained, conditions were pristine, scenery was awesome but the course itself was definitely one of the more tougher ones I've ever played as a higher handicap (lots of visual distractions, not overly tight/narrow but lots of different elevations/greens tough to read). Better bring your A game, as this course/experience was very humbling. Better luck next time for me, I suppose!
Fantastic
This course and Rolling Oaks are fantastic. If anyone ever complains about this course they must be members at Augusta. I like everyhting about both courses and I am fussy. I am semi-local and only play a couple other public courses in the Tampa Bay area.
Ms
Course is fine, a nice day of golf but course is usually crowded.
slow round great value
Had a great time the course was in awesome shape it was to bad we played behind people that totally should not be playing golf not just at pine barrons but anywhere
Simply amazing!
Hands down nicest course around. From the condition of the course to the staff, world woods is a top notch facility! Gauranteed to be an amazing day! I highly recommend playing it!
Greens are rolling smooth
Great day. Course is very green. Plush fairways and greens are rolling true. A little slow but will get cut soon. Alot of rain lately but the course drains well.
Thanks
Great Course-A Must Play in Greater Tampa Area
World Woods simply has two of the best layouts in their 36 holes in the entire greater Tampa / Central Florida area. Both courses are great tracks, but Pine Barrens has a more distinctive architectural style that you just don't see in many other courses. Course is always in good shape, layout is pristine and undisturbed (i.e. no houses), and there is a large variety in layout and design of holes. The large waste areas are strategically placed which can make for a challenging round of golf. If you can play both Rolling Oaks and Pine Barrens, do it, but if not play Pine Barrens first. My only complaint, it isn't in my backyard and is a fair drive away, but well worth it.
Maintenance has declined
Played Pine Barrens for the first time in about 5 years. A little disappointed in the maintenance of the course. The bunkers were terrible: like a bad muny course. Greens and fairways were better than average.
Great Course for the money
Excellent value. Great layout and challenge. Greens were not fast but putted true and have character.
A Fantastic Golf Experience
It is for good reason that World Woods is consistently ranked high nationally. You get a gorgeous public course unencumbered by houses or other distractions. Each hole is unique: replete w/waste bunkers, and some elevation changes. Furthermore, GolfNow offers terrific deals particularly in the off-season. Play either Pine Barrens or Rolling Oaks; you won't regret it.
Disappointing
Not sure who World Woods pays to get all these accolades but pine barrons is just not that nice of a course. There are some interesting holes and a descent layout but it leaves a lot to be desired. We play once a week and have played many nice courses. This one does not even fall in the top 10. Baffled at all these reviews. If you live in north tampa it may be worth the drive but other than that stay away.
Service dog friendly
I was treated great by the staff when I showed up with my Service Dog that I have for PTSD. No problems they said, and wanted to make sure I was at ease and not to worry about anything, just go and play and enjoy. This was great as not all businesses treat us this way.
Great course, great condition, great experience. Prices are a bit steep but good deal when they discount for aeration.
One of Florida's Best
I've played the World
Woods Pine Barrens course about a dozen times and it never disappoints. They have had some challenges over previous years with flooding but they have done an extensive renovation of the waste bunkers that included new drainage systems. So far so good. The course is uncharacteristically hilly for a Florida course. It is a great layout and challenging with all the waste areas. Each hole does have a bailout or layup area for those of lesser skill. Course conditions were excellent. My only negative was the speed of the greens... A bit slow for my liking probably running at about 8. The staff is very friendly, especially the bag drop guys. I always get into a golf discussion with them.
Best Value in the Area
2 world class courses just north of Tampa. Both courses were in great shape and the Jim, the Ranger, was very helpful. Reasonable beer prices on the course. Weather can be an issue in the summer afternoons but that is true anywhere in FL.
Pines barren
Course was awesome. did not get credit on golf now for this booking.
TAKE THE DRIVE
This time of year can be tough on courses. World Woods has it figured out. Pine Barrens was in pristine shape from tee to green. this course is challenging but wide open enough to be forgiving at the same time. Well worth the trip. You won't be disappointed.
world woods is awesome
great course, condition pace if play were super. staff always acts as if they are doing you a favor
Letting you play their course, that attitude comes from leadership .
