About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
One of the Best
Championship type course - a real treat!
Experience Florida Golf with a few twists!
Two Words
Absolutely Fantastic. Great courses, Very courteous staff, Lucky enough to live local, it will become a regular destination
Wish there Was more to do in Brooksville...
I thought the World Woods Golf Complex was an awesome facility, 2 great courses with some excellent practice facilities. The restaurant and locker room was average, but the golf was wonderful. This would be a great weekend getaway for a golf group, especially if there was more to do in Brooksville (1:30 from Tampa, 1:30 from Orlando). Will be back, worth the drive.
Worth the ride
It takes me just over an hour to get to this course, and I am never disappointed. There are two courses here and I have only played Pine Barron's five times now but plan on playing the other course next time. There are no homes on these courses and no highways or roads close to it, so it is very quiet and peaceful, just you and your game no distractions no excuses. I love it. Do yourself a favor play this course.
Lives up to its rating, but you must have game to play here
World Woods Pine Barrens annually ranks as one of the finest golf courses in the state of Florida. It is a true golf destination, but is not a resort course as there is literally nothing on/around the property except for the tremendous golf facility itself. This is clearly designed to attract the serious player, and honestly should keep others away. I've played here about every 6-9 months for a few years now and my most recent experience was a challenge because we were paired up with someone who simply did not have the game to play this level of golf course. There's a reason that places such as Bethpage Black post warning signs and it applies here as well. So, if you are not at least an average player, I do not recommend this course for you. You will spend much of your day in sand/waste and also will sour the experience for your playing partners and the groups behind you.
this course has great
excellent golf course, the fairways and green is in good conditions, for de green tees is very hard for my, i like this, thanks
Great course
Course is a very nice place in excellent condition.
Only problem was the pace of play, very slow, lots of waiting. There was a 5 some and a 4 some ahead, we
waited about 10 min on every hole to tee up. No rangers on the course. It's summer time
course in better shape than the other one at world woods
good layout , lots of sand that doesn't come into play if you know where ball is going or hit shots straight, some waste areas, nice looking layout, fairways for the mostly are wide, very fair test of golf, fairways were in good shape, greens are in good shape, pace of play alright had some spots waiting, talked to Jim H., a players helper/ranger on course gave me a foldout hole by hole map was real helpful, thanks
Not a bad course, pace killed it
Given the stellar reviews of World Woods, we wanted to play both courses so we played the Pine Barrens in the afternoon following our morning round on Rolling Oaks.
Despite the late start around 2:30, the pace was still excruciatingly slow, and nothing was done about it. The course has a good layout but nothing spectacular. All traps are hard bunkers which add to the challenge but get old before the round is over. Some tee boxes and greens were a bit more damanged as well.
Not a bad course to play, but definitely overrated.
Excellent Course! Must play
This was such a great course to basically stumble on thanks to golfnow. The course layout is one of the finest I have played and the conditions were above expectations. Great for all levels with varrying tee lengths. So many diffrenet ways to play multiple holes. Can't say enough about this place.. must play. Only downfall for those reading this close to date of play (4/23/14) - They just fertilized the greens which caused putts to jump, just a touch at times. By no means should that discourage you, go play and you won't regret it. Each hole offers a unique landscape, greens are tough (but fair), and fairways were very clean and well kept. Well done!
Challenging
Wonderful layout, great conditions compared to other courses in the area
world woods
the course was in great shape. I recommend it to anybody who loves to play a nice round of golf.the staff was very nice and helpful.
Play it Again
This course is one in which the first time you play it, you can count on a score about 10 strokes or more higher than your normal score. There are so many things I would do differently the next time I play it. It was worth the price and the 45 minute drive to get there. I really would like to have the chance to play it again and see what I could do with a second round. My only complaint was that the sand was really inconsistent. One bunker would be like cement and the next like beach sand.
Awesome Golf Course
Played Pine Barrens which was in excellent condition with some of the best greens in the county!! I play here regularly and never seem to be disappointed with the conditions or the staff and the way the course is run. Great place to play golf!!!!
Beautiful Course
Whenever I play at this course I can enjoy beautiful scene. If you want to shoot low score, I would like to recommend the Rolling Oaks course. If you want to challenge some difficult course, The Pine Barrens definitely harmonize with you.
Great Golf Course, you gotta' play it!
Always a great experience and great golf. 18 memorable holes, that need to be on your bucket list.
a must play
Extremely well managed. Frienly staff. Challenging course for avg. Golfers to advanced.
Fun, unique & challenging
This is one of my favorite courses and very unique, especially to Florida. Elevation changes and massive bunkers/waste areas. Apparently whoever cut the hole locations that day woke up on the wrong side of the bed as they were all tucked and on the side of a hill. Luckily greens were slow enough that they were playable, and after spending all winter in upstate NY I didn't care anyway. got a great deal on Golfnow as a last minute single. Last time my group was there paid $165 to play both courses, and they charge for range balls. At those rates, range balls should be included. Rolling Oaks is also very nice, but I prefer Pine Barrens. Will be back
Would play again
Course was in great shape. Only problem was that even starting at 530 pm, I still had to contend with others on the course. I had a few groups that didn't want to let me play through even though I was a single, and also ran into groups that were walking. I think I'll play this course again if the rates drop somewhat and the snowbirds head back up north
Nice course and location but not 5 star
We stayed at Innisbrook Resort and played the Island Course the day we arrived and then Pine Barrens 2 days later. I picked Pine Barrens because it's rated the only 5 star public course in Florida. It's definitely in the middle of the woods with no houses or any buildings within site other than the rest rooms on the course. There were a number of those centrally located so that was a nice feature. I thought the course was nice and a good layout but it didn't seem like a 5 star course to me. The people who worked there were all very nice but I think most golfers are locals. We played 18 in 4 hours exactly but the guys behind us were impatient even though we were right up against the group in front of us. On the 16th hole, a par 3, we had one ball in the middle of the green but it's a bit of a blind tee shot. They either didn't see the ball on the green or just figured they'd try to hurry us up and hit into us striking one player on a bounce. We had some choice words for them when they came up and that negatively affected this rating. My friend said something to the people in the pro shop after the round and they were very courteous. They said if it ever happens again just to call the pro shop and they'd send a ranger out because they want everyone to enjoy the round. The staff couldn't have been better but it seemed like there's a usual crew that plays there every week and we felt like outsiders. I would have preferred to play another round at Innisbrook and saved myself the hour ride and aggravation.
