About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
Great course
Course was in great shape and a lot of fun to play. I only had oneday in the tampa area and I got really lucky selecting this course. Not being from the area this was a great choice. If ever back in the area I will definitely make time to play here again,
reminds us of playing in Pennsylvania
Friendly pro shop employees. A little confused of where to get practice range balls....drove to range and then had to come back to get the balls. The course was in great shape and it reminded us of playing courses in the North. The ranger was very informative and helpful. Only saw food cart twice the entire round. Price was good for the round as well as for the food. Enjoyed our visit.
Great day of golf
Fun/nice/scenic layout; course in good condition. Greens in good shape and roll great. Good thing though I booked thru GolfNow otherwise I wouldn't have played at the full rack rate; hard to say it's worth that much.
everything is good except the greens
The course is in good shape, except for the greens, which are baffling. The comments from everyone who play that I heard were the greens. They probably are running around six on the stimp. Otherwise, great layout, challenging, & different than you will find in FL.
Windy Surprise
I have played the Rolling Oaks several times. I think that is one of the most respectable courses here in the Brooksville area. I took advantage of the GolfNow discount of $45 as to the $119 regular green fees for the Pine Barrens Course. The course was in good condition. There are many challenges already with the sand coming to play EVERYWHERE, but incorporate a windy day and you can face even more challenges.
The cart staff are very friendly and helpful when you get to the facility. Inside, there are less than hospitable pro shop personnel. Unless, you are "known" to them, you are treated less than "desired" to be out there. Curt would be the best way to describe their demeanor. You can see the difference in their tone and mannerisms.
The food and staff was fine. The prices were fair and portions of the sandwiches are excellent. The practice facilities are massive.
The course was is great shape less a couple of greens that had bald spots near the played holes. Would have seemed more logical to move those pins to allow that area to heal faster. The greens putt true and the different Tee placements can accommodate all levels of play.
In summary, it is a beast that will bring shot makers to ensure a second shot. Good drives can roll into trouble. Blind Tee landings and narrow gaps can bring trees into play. There was some slow play, but it was under 5 hours. The wind was a factor on this round, but other rounds played had similar "waits" for the Rolling Oaks.
I shot my lowest round (80 for the par 71) since moving down here. I strongly recommend the front staff to review customer treatment, but I also still feel this is the best course for the GolfNow values that it can offer for the area...
paradis pour golfeur
belle variétés de troues sans maisons à proximité , bon deal pour $ 55.00,,, à $119.00 pour ceux qui on le budget pour un énorme cigare `a $35.00 durant leur partie
Pine Barrens
Worth the drive. Outstanding value and quality. A true gem in Tampa Bay's back yard. They pride themselves on pace of play.
Nice course, interesting design, not top 100 in country
This was worth the drive of 90 minutes but it's not a top 100 in country course. We played Pine Barren which is an interesting layout and price was very reasonable. Course conditions were ok with greens very slow. I enjoyed the round and would go again but I've played nicer public courses that aren't ever mentioned in any rankings. The facilities were ok but seemed dated and not what I expected. It's all about the golf courses which is ok by me.
Challenging Course
Great Golf course, offers a good challenge and beginners might struggle here, we loved the pace of play. Unfortunately the cart girl only came by once
Pine Barrens was good but not excellent.
In the past I have played and have been very impressed with the conditions of the course. This time around the rough was okay, greens were spotty not fully grown in but rolled okay, tee blocks could use some work but the over all facilities are a golfers paradise best layout I've played in Florida. I'd recommend this course for a good player.
Not maintained very well.
Disappointed in World Woods. Appears that they have significant financial troubles.
Course layout and design are excellent. Tees were not mowed. Many fairways had little or no grass. Sand traps were in quite poor shape. Greens were OK but slow. Carts were no clean. Too bad. Have many good memories of this course from the past.
Good day of golf
World woods is a great golf destination. Two great 18 hole courses, a par 3 course and 3 practice holes. Starters provide guidelines to protect the quality of the courses such as no carts within 100 yds of green except on paths. Would love to see rangers enforce those rules. Bozos ahead of us today were driving right up and parking in front of green.
Great Track
Very busy, but, this is a beautiful course and well worth the money!! Amazing scenery and great layout for Florida!!
Needs a good scrubbing
Course great, design and use of topography is perfect. Place is otherwise run
Down and dirty. Ate lunch on a table outside and it was dirty and neglected. On course restrooms are terrible.
Was surprised at the overall condition of facility.
Fun course
First round of season and was good course to get started on.great practice facilities and course was in good shape.pace a little slow but not bad
Fairways thin
Nice layout. Pace of play reasonable fairways could be better. Greens good.
Great Dah
Very enjoyable course and day. Would recommend this course for players at all levels. Green are in excellent condition and very fasts. Staff pleasant and helpful. Can't wait to play it again. Do yourself a favor and play this course, one of the best in the area.
Worth the trip?
We live in Orlando and had heard so many great things about World Woods, so we packed up and made a weekend out of it so we could try both courses. For the rate we paid on Golfnow, we feel it was worth the trip. To pay their normal rates? No way. There is so much quality golf in Central Florida, that the two hour drive makes no sense. The Pine Barrens course was different than most courses in Florida and was fun to play. The course itself was in good shape and the staff was very friendly (with the exception of the young lady in the pro shop checking us in...)
World Woods Pine Barrens, great discovery
Really enjoyed this course and it's very natural look with large sand waste areas and strategic design. For a public course really gives much more expensive and exclusive resorts a run for their money. Uncrowded. Facilities (clubhouse and locker room) basic but adequate.
Winter Escape
We got a great deal from golf now and totally enjoyed the course. The practice facilities at World Woods are phenomenal and the course beautiful, with lots of elevation changes, waste areas and wildlife. We liked Rolling Oak even more!
