About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
One of the nicest courses in America let alone the Central Fl area.
What a great value with some of the special rates you can get through Golf Now. The greens are in excellent condition and the whole course is in great shape.
it was great
The course is in great shape and it is very challenging. I play there a lot.
Spectacular course that is spectacularly difficult
Being a Florida resident 1.75 hours South of this course, I've always heard about how I should play it. An opportunity came up for our club to play there for $35 so we jumped on it. It's really beautiful and is a visually incredible course with lots of elevation changes and layouts that are like things that you see on TV. Everything is pristine and you feel like you are somewhere special. The problem is that is is INCREDIBLY difficult for the average golfer. So difficult, that is was not enjoyable. I'm a 20 handicap and normally shoot high 80's to low 90's and make a few great shots a round and a few terrible shots a round, but it all evens out and I make it through. This place requires you be have some pretty good shot making ability or you are always in trouble. Around the green, the traps and landing areas for your approach shots are just plain hard penalizing. The greens are ridiculously hard...FAST and undulating with degrees of break that I imagine Augusta must be like. My home course has stupidly fast and undulating greens but these things were off the charts. A 5 handicap in my group shot 88. I shot 99 with only 1 penalty shot. I felt like I shot 115. If you are a great golfer and enjoy a challenge, knock yourself out, that's who this place is made for. The guys in my group seemed to enjoy it and they are a 5 and 11 handicap. High handicappers like me should avoid this place unless you just want to have the experience. I can appreciate a challenging layout but this thing was just sadistic and beat me into submission. Also, the staff is not very friendly, several of them in fact. A little bit dismissive and not the caliber you expect in a top 100 course. I felt like a cog in a wheel where they just keep you moving along the assembly line, Walmart style. Disney this ain't. Unfortunately, I have to say I would not do it again.
Awesome fairways,nice condition,great price
Great shape, great price, fairways were great, greens rolled nice and also in great shape.
Great place
Played after heavy rain fall course held up very well. Would play it again as a matter of fact booked both world wood courses to play on Thursday again.
Pleasing to the eyes.A fantastic course .
One of my core places to play.Greens are beginning to take shape.Great surfaces to putt on.Overall the course is in great condition.Great value from Golfnow web site.Go play it for yourself and you will not be disappointed.
The Best Course I've Played - so far
I played rolling oaks and pine barrens.
Rolling Oaks has rolling greens.
Pine Barrens has flatter greens.
Both have long par 4 and 3's.
A driver for nearly every hole at Pine Barrens is necessary.
Pine Barrens has more areas for you to loose a ball.
Your usual good score may go up by 10 or more.
For the golf aficionado
Read the reviews before I played which were all over the place. Good thing I payed attention to the positive reviews! The Pine Barrens course is a perfect blend of modern and classic golf architecture. Want big? Perfect golf terrain and soil? Want challenging and well designed greens complexes? Want to be rewarded for good shots? Be challenged to make par when a shot goes astray? Not have the nuisance of searching for balls? The PB course is your answer. As a fan of classic golf architecture - I can confidently say that Fazio hit the mark! By the way - I played the course after a torrential downpour and never had a bad lie when I hit my intended line. A great experience - can't wait until I return.
The best course I've played in this part of the southest US.
A great deal, a super track, no crowds, very nice conditions made for a delightful round of golf, regardless of the score!
Outstanding
I've heard a lot of good things about World Woods over the years, but never made the long drive to play there. Finally, I did and was not disappointed. Pine Barrens is a remarkable course and one of the more memorable ones I've played.
Great experience.
Great experience. Will go back to play both courses back to back someday. Played Pine Barrens and loved it. The course layout, scenery and practice facilities are all top notch. Some of the best greens I've putted on and they were quick. Love the bunkers even though I never want to be in another when I'm there. You definately have to think about where you want to place the ball as you are challenged off pretty much every tee box. If you have an elevated green make sure you have enough club as short is almost never good at Pine Barrens. A must play if you're in the area.
World Woods is just fantastic
Had such a great experience here that I immediately booked a round on the Rolling Oaks course for the next weekend. Nothing negative to say, at all.
Lives up to its billing! A must play for true golfers.
This course lives up to its billing as one of the top 100 daily fee courses in the country. If you are playing it for the first time, picking clubs can be tricky, as some of the fairways are not completely visible from the tees. If high difficulty greens are your thing, you will absolutely love Pine Barrens. There is more slope in these greens than any I have played in the entire state of Florida. It is also rare to get a flat lie in any of the fairways, so plan on using all your course management skills. This was an absolute blast. As a side note, I also think they have the best practice facilities of any public course I have ever played.
Challenging but impressive
This course is really out in the middle of nowhere but it was well worth the drive. It has the greatest practice chipping and putting green I have ever seen and the course was beautiful. A very exciting layout that will ask you to hit every shot you have in your bag. Cant wait to play this course again
a day in paradise
this course is visually stunning. the fairways are like a beautiful carpet.with several tee boxes it fits everyone;s idea of a great golfing challenge. the sand traps and waste areas are magnificent. but it is the undulating greens that present the toughest challenge to both the novice and the accomplished golfer.a visit to world woods wouldn.t be complete without trying their new speicials in the restaurant.
This course was in great condition.
This course is well maintained and without a dought the best I have played on the last several years. I would say it ranks right up there with the courses I play in Napa Valley in California like Eagle Vines.
awesome as always
Great course. Great conditions as always. Any reviewer who says otherwise should have their head examined.
Make the Trip
Beautiful setting cut into a pine forest. Not a palm tree to be found. No homes lining the course and not traffic noise in the background. Just the wind blowing through the pines.
Played as a single and was fortunate to get paired with two great guys.
We played the white tees as this was my first time at the course. Whites were a good choice. I could have tested myself a bit if I played the greens. Not much different on many holes but on the one's that count, it would have me stepping up the game.
Overall course conditioned were very nice. It been dry in this part of FL but the course was well maintained.
Ample fairways for the occasional stray drive. Green well protected but fair. You need to pay attention to the slopes and contours of the greens as they are subtle for the first time player.
Great price for the value.
I'll be back sooner vs. later.
Great shape
Have been playing here off and on for 15 years and it was in best shape since it opened. Very enjoyable.
GOLFS FINEST
THIS COURSE TRANSFORMS YOU TO ANOTHER PLACE OF TRANQUILITY JUST BEAUTIFUL THE WAY GOLF SHOULD BE
