About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
Nice elevation changes you won't find in most Florida courses.
Course was in perfect condition and gave you a very secluded feel. Great experience and would recommend it to anyone.
Excellent course that is well maintained in natural setting.
Enjoyed my round very much. I wish they had told me the greens had been micro punched that morning. Made challenging greens more difficult. Surprised there were no ball washers. Must be a Florida thing. There are very interesting holes and several risk/reward opportunities. As a single, I was paired up with 3 very nice golfers whose skills were similar to mine.
well maintained , good service, challenging course
Both courses are wil maintained and the course layouts are fun and challenging. Great practice area
B E A utiful
Very challenging, especially for the high handicappers. This course is very humbling even for the good golfers. Shot making is a must if you want to make par, if not then settle for boggie or worse. This course will have you talking to your self.
wonderful facility
I have played these courses every year since they opened. They are currently in better condition than they have been in years. The greens on Pine Barrens could have been a little quicker. The new putting surface at Rolling Oaks is a huge improvement. The greens on both courses ousted very true. These courses are a great test. Pace of play was reasonable, not fast. Staff was professional. Overall, it was a wonderful day of golf on two spectacular golf courses.
Great conditions
Fairways are in very good conditions. The Greens should be faster.
Beautiful course and well worth the drive
I played both courses last year and forgot how much fun and how beautiful it is. The layout is rewarding and the greens are fabulous. We played the 9 hole short course for $10 then went to the big course after lunch. Our only complaint is the woman behind the counter was rude when we tried to shock in for the big course 15 min earlier than she thought was acceptable. If she gets a customer service lesson, it's a full 10.
A must play.
Was on vacation in Tampa and decided to try World Woods. Everything they say about the course is true. If you are in the area, it is a must play. One of the best courses I have ever played.
Not like typical Florida courses due to the lack of houses along fairways.
Challenging course in great condition. Not a lot of water on the course, but stay out of the pine trees that line the fairways.
Outstanding environment and maintenance
One of the best courses in Florida, 5 stars no doubt.
Customer support cordial but clueless about organizing starting times. Signed up for Pine Barrens, but when we got to the first tee there was no starter and 2 threesomes waiting to tee off, apparently playing their second 18 holes. Had to select Rolling Oaks, few on that course, but probably as good as Pine Barrens.
'Laid back' is the best description for the pro shop and service.
'Pristine and beautiful' is the best description of the courses.
Great Experience
I play a lot of courses through out the states and this is a Great Place to Play. Value for money is great. Greens were rolling medium speed. You need to be in the right spot on the greens because they are slanted and if they are rolling fast look out. I was not used to the Waste Areas so make sure you practice on the range. I did not and took me awhile to get used to hitting out of them.
Tremendous value
World Woods continues to be the gold standard for Tampa Bay area courses. Challenging, but fair, with a tee box for every level of player. The course is always in impeccable condition, and the staff is always friendly and helpful.
Only 1 negative....
First I have to say that I consider these 2 courses at World Woods to the best available public golf in the southeast. Both of these courses are REALLY good. From tee to green it just doesn't get any better than this. This place is, always was, and will be all about pure golf. Phenominal. Untill you get to the greens. Perfect in every way, except one BIG way. These are the slowest greens I've ever seen on a course anywhere near as good as these. I can't for the life of me understand why they are kept so long and slow. I know they're fairly new, but I was here just over a year ago and the greens were the best i ever saw them. And this year they're rediculously slow. SUPER slow, like "ruin your round" slow. To the point where I didn't want to learn the speed, as it would ruin my putting for the rest of the week while I was playing normal greens. I'm sure if they had a stimpmeter reading it would not be any higher than 5 or 6. Everywhere else I played last week was at a 10 or better. I LOVE this course. I will play and recommend this course to everyone I talk to, but this slow was absolutely rediculous. I can't say that enough. And when i asked several employees about it, they all just acted and said it was pretty much normal for this time of year. I PRAY NOT!!!! Here's hoping that the Super had some real reason in mind. This is too good a place for these speeds.
Best Public facility in the state!
Best value in entire state of Florida. They GET IT!!! No price gouging during peak season. Pine Barrens probably even better than TPC Sawgrass.
Challenging, but Beautiful!!
This course has some beautiful holes, very clean well maintained and friendly staff. We were surprised that there were no ball cleaners along the course.
Reminds us of the Northeastern golf courses
Brought my wife for her birthday. Believe the hype - beautiful challenging golf course. We come from Massachusetts and were so happy to see that the course reminds of of that area. We traveled 2 hours to get there and my GPS lost its bearings so make sure you print out a set of directions. Played Pine Barrens and was very impressed. Worth the ride.
A premium course well worth the drive. Not one house anywhere on the property.
No water but bunkers and waste areas everywhere just waiting for your shots. Greens very well protected in the fazio way. Difficult rolling greens are in great shape.....2 putts are a bonus. Fazio did a terrific job with the terrain and plentiful pine trees.
One of the best in FL!
Both the Pine Barrens and Rolling Oaks courses are truly unique designs by Tom Fazio. The course is interestingly challenging, but still fair. The serene natural beauty and quiet makes this facility almost like noneother in FL! Well worth a long drive! No houses, roads, or noise on this course...just pure golf.
greens condition makes it difficult to give good review
Played yesterday, the course was in great shape, the greens had been top-dressed that morning, for that reason, it was a disappointment, feels that golfers should be given an option to play at a later date when this occurs.
Fantastic golf outing!!
This course was in great shape and very challenging. I enjoyed this course and I will definitely be playing this course in the very near future.
