About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
Great course and conditions.
Sand bunkers are on every hole. Practice facilities are the best I have ever seen. They even have 3 full size practice holes. Will go back
very good
The golf course is beautiful. We will play again.
If you like rolling hills and sand, the pine barrens is
the course to play,
Best shape ever
Wonderful conditions currently, from greens to fairways and sand areas.
Serious Golfers and Golf Lovers Only
World Woods is worth the trip if you are devoted to golf, course design, and serious challenge. Amazing how a course with such little water or forced carry could be so difficult, but it is! The snack bar is understaffed, and we couldn't check in upon our arrival one hour prior to our tee time due to antiquated computer program in the pro shop, but this is quibbling. The courses are the real stars here! (Not the amenities of which there really are none).Go, but PLEASE TEE IT FORWARD here! Can't wait to go back to play the other course.
Lots of pine trees!
Played this course on December 15 th on my trip to Tampa from Ohio. course has a wooded and rolling terrain and the grounds are well maintained. greens were not too fast when I played in the morning because of the dew but got faster as the day dried them out. True Palmer course with tricky shots in many locations.
A bit pricey in my opinion but used to paying more than the very reasonable rates for Ohio courses.
All around wonderful experience
The complex offers not only two of the finest courses in the Tampa Bay area, but the practice facilities are world class and provides the golfer many quality options to hone all skills. The Pine Barrens course is one of the greatest layouts with some of the mokst specatular holes that I have ever played. The waste areas challenge the golfer on most of the key shots and the greens demand not only solid iron play into them, but will challenge even the best of putters. I will definitely make the hour trip from Tampa to play the course again. GREAT JOB!!!
What a course!
Absolutely fabulous course. From the initial drive onto the property to putting the clubs in the car, I could find nothing to complain about. Some of the most beautiful landscaped and designed holes I've played. The fairways were not all flat and smooth lending to many uneven lies, adding to the challenge. This is the first course I've played where ALL sand areas (even greenside) were treated as waste bunkers allowing grounding the club and practice swings. The greens were very undulating and fast making putts a real challenge. The clubhouse was pretty spartan, but that's not why I played there.
World Woods Pine Barren Course
Speed of play was great. Well worth the money. We had an awesome time.
challenging, requires your whole game
all your game is needed here. ample driving areas, but misdirection is punished. undulation in greens requires hitting to correct portion of the green. visually stuning holes with several par 5s requiring choices of driving and 2nd shot areas. split fairways, divided by sand waste areas, on several holes offer choices. A TOP 50. this day overseeded greens were a bit slow and several putts fell short.
Great course
Great layout and very challenging. Beautiful holes.
great golf course
The best course in the tampa brooksville area . Play it
Golf course done the right way
T played "Pine Barrons" To play this course well, many decisions need to be made. From the mutipe choices of fairways to pins that are devilously situated either elevated
or situated close to waste areas or water. If strategy is in
your golf bag play this course.
.
Best course we played around Tampa
With the Golfnow deal, this was hands down the best course and value in the Tampa area. Tough greens, large, well manicured, but crazy pin placements. FUN
Beautiful course, well bunkered with lots of elevated greens
This was my second round on Pine Barrens. It is a fantastic course with great visual features. Well bunkered with lots of elevated greens, however I thought the greens were a bit slow. They seemed fuzzy so perhaps I caught them on a bad day. Other than that there is nothing but superlatives to offer on Pine Barrens!
Great layout, slow greens
This course has a great layout reminiscent of Pine Valley. However, on the day that we played, the greens were maybe a 4-5 on the stimpmeter, which is just unacceptable. Having said that, if these greens were 12, then it would take 6 hours to play.
Intimidating but a good challenge.
Forget the trees, it is not as difficult as it looks.
Great Tom Fazio design, pristine conditions
Has everything to challenge a golfer, "driveable par 4", water, dunes, multi-tier greens.
Great course!
The fairways, tee boxes, and greens were all in wonderful condition; groundskeepers were everywhere doing a great job cleaning pine needles off the greens and tees and cleaning the bunkers. We love both courses at World Woods!
