About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
Fair & challenging
Love World Woods Pine Barrens Course. This is a fair test of golf with beautiful surrondings.
great condition
great layout and shape had problem with fivesome group in front of our threesome that wouldnt let us through and ranger did nothing twice
Everything you'd want in a course
Simply breathtaking, both courses at world woods are everything you could ask for in a course , Pine Barons being the more difficult of the two, the other being Rolling Oaks but both simply awesome with both big open fairways and narrow fairways but both equally challenging that go hand in hand with the par 3's with water, waste bunkers , multiple sand traps that blend beautifully with the long and challenging par 4's and par 5's, this is a course that is very challenging but in a friendly way, you shouldn't lose a lot of balls but you could. Of all the both private high dollar courses and semi private courses i have played World Woods is the best and yes i know some will bring up several other high end courses that are just PGA perfect if you will but for the money and the friendly staff and the way the courses are laid out World Woods is in my opinion the pound for pound leader and if you do the GolfNow hot deals you can play there for less than you would for MUCH MUCH lesser courses that couldn't hold a candle to either of World Woods courses, if you want to have a memorable day playing golf at a class A golf club with a chose of two stunning and challenging courses World Woods is where you want to go.
yes, old style tree lined...great views.
fairways well maintained...greens a little diappointing, a lot of marks, and divots not fixed....generally fast...which i like...
Great Course, Rude staff!
This course is literally 6 minutes from my home and is a beautifully maintained course, very challenging for any skill level. However, the staff were rather demeaning and quick to tell me that "we don't even make money on these golfnow vouchers" and were slow to check us in, no offer of range balls and pairing with another group, quite disappointing World Woods.
Had to play it at least once
This was an overall great experience for my brother and I. It is a must see course. Beautiful layout and challenging design. Not made for the high handicapper like myself. It beat me up and made me tired the next day. I suggest playing at least once, it is a must see.
Never saw a weed
Hard to know where to aim for a first time player on Pine Barrons. Conditions excellent, greens a little slow, some sand less than good, but lots of it!! I'm ready to go back and play the other course.
Lots of challenging shots.
No ranger to push the slow threesome ahead. We waited on every hole. Five hours is far too long! Course conditions were as good as we expected.
Great and challenging experience from the black tees
Great and challenging experience from the black tees. This indeed is a top golf course with fantastic fairways and speedy, rolling greens. You feel like a pro on this course. Although not cheap it is worth the money.
Spectacular experiencce. Great fun
The entrance, bag drop, and club house spell spectacular. I was filled with excitement before I saw the first Tee. The course was in excellent condition. Great fun.
Great Course
We enjoy this course very much and everytime we are in the area we make sure to set up a tee time. The course is very enjoyable in in great condition.
Definiatly a must play
jUST FABULOUS
Great Fabulous Most Enjoyable. The best golf round ever paled in 10 years
World Woods
The staff was SUPER friendly and the course was in fantastic shape. I think that the $120 that we paid per person was WAY too high - so that was a little disappointing considering we drove 1.5 hours to get there. All and all though it was a great time, great course, and great staff. I just expect a little different course when playing in excess of $100.
Great practice facility.
Very good course but didn't get the wow factor i was expecting of beng ranked 63rd in the US.
Absolutely Terrific!
What a golf course!!! The fairways and greens were pristine, I thoroughly enjoyed the many different holes, even though I ended up playing from the sand alot of the day. The whole course is simply amazing from start to finish and it is easy to see why it is widely acclaimed. My 2 favorite holes would have to be #4 and #15.
What a way to start the new year of golf.
Played this course on a Friday afternoon. Was a present from my wife for my birthday what a treat. Was a single with my wife riding along they allowed me to go by myself and we had a great time. The course is a great test of golf. Played the black tees and it requires lenght off the tees and some thinking around the greens. On a few greens it was best to miss short other wise the ball would roll out off the green in some spots when coimg back to hole. I would love to play both course with a group some time
pine barrens is visually stunning & a great challenge
all your tee shots are very demanding as are your layups & shots to the greens which are fairly fast.
super
played in cold and vindy conditions, bur still is was a pleasure to play so beatiful a course
WOW!
This place is a must play for any golfer! We played Rolling Oaks on Friday and Pine Barrens twice on Saturday.
Practice facilities are the best I have ever seen...without question. For a practice junkie like me, I spent at least 7 hours over the two days I was at world woods on the practice facilities.
Putting and chipping area do not seem to be as large as advertised (there was surely not 36 pins ), but its larger than anything else I have ever seen and it gave many different opportunities to practice chipping, flopping, and pitching. Trying to make puts from one end to the other was very exhilarating. Both days in the morning it was pretty busy, and on Saturday it got a little difficult to share with some of the other players. In the late morning/ afternoon it opened up more and was a lot more enjoyable.
Range Balls are not included in the greens fees, and they give you 35 balls for what was about six dollars I believe. The range is divided up into 4 quadrants (North, South, East, and West) . On our two days we could only hit off the East range. That was a tad disappointing, as again it didn't seem to be as advertised. Regardless of that, we didn't spend all that much time on the range anyways.
There is a 3 hole practice course that I believe also cost six dollars. It starts off with a par 5, than a par 4, and closes with a par 3. We played it twice on the first day. It was a great way to get warmed up and get the wiggles out. More courses should do this.
The iron range that is near hole 1 for both courses was closed. No explanation was given.
Both courses were very enjoyable and very scenic. There were many times I would look back at the tee boxes from the fairway and focus on taking it all in. It surely is an experience I will always remember.
Our only issues came with a bit of slow play on both days. On the first day we had a twilight time, and started to worry we might not finish before dark as we were stuck behind a group of hackers.
On the second day we started off at noon and immediately got behind a slow group. At 10 the ranger pushed us through onto 11 and we got stuck behind another slow group of old men shortly after that. It seemed like the makeup of most people playing were 60+ so take that into consideration when booking a twilight time. The ranger the second day (and the starter for that fact) were great and very accommodating.
After playing pine barrens in about 4.5 hours the first time around, we played it again finishing right at dark in about 2 hours and 40 minutes. I had never played 36 holes in one day before, and with no one in front of us at the end of the day it was some of the most enjoyable golf I have ever played.
In the end this is one of my favorite golf complexes. Both courses are great and I would recommend both without hesitation. Practice facilities are out of this world and worth the trip alone.
Terrrific golf venue-well worth the trip
This golf course has one of the best practice facilities you will find anywhere. Driving range, practice holes, short course and all at very reasonable prices. Pine Barrens golf course is difficult but playable from the right tees. Very pretty courses.
