Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.

The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

BEAUTIFUL

This is one of the most beautiful couses you will ever play in your life. The course has more beach than Miami, but if you hit a strait ball the course is very tameable. The staff is very friendly and helpful. If you've never played a world class course before you'll have a blast.

Great course

Everything was fine except the treatment that Golf Now participants received at the pro shop. Second class would be inadequate to describe how poorly we and other Golf Now players were treated. Enough said about that. The course is first rate.

Pine Barren is a nice course to play

Your survey software is poor, I could not move the box on several of the topics, so my rating was not as I would like to give this survey. I would like to note that World Woods has a problem anytime you play late in the day, say 2:pm or 3:30pm .Playing Pine Barren is desireable that is why they charge more to play it. But, when the marshall goes home, say around 4:30pm players that paid a reduced rate to play jump into the back nine on Pine Barren which makes the back nine play in over 3 1/2 hours, extremely slow and difficult to keep you game going. I have played Pine Barren several times and it always turns out the same way, in most cases I just stop playing after playing the 14th hole. Everyone knows this is going one but nothing seems to be done to change it.

This course was a great value for the price.

This course I have played before 12 years ago. It still had all of the things I remembered nice greens, lots of sand and waste bunkers and was a nice challenge for mid and high handicaps. The rates the Thursday I played were $29.00 for 18 holes and a cart, you can't beat that. The drive up the suncoast parkway wasn't bad either, head north and when you get to the end trun right, the course is right there. Hit'em straight.

A course you must play.

Excellent tee boxes, manicured fairways, and pristine greens. With the abundance of rain this course was in great condition. Fairways were like hitting off a rug. The starter was very hospitable and very outgoing, and assured that pace of play would be maintained. Very enjoyable course even in the summer heat. Will play again soon.

Great course!!!

Going out and coming back this course is championship level. Several greens are multi level and are in pristine shape. There is alot of sand on the course and is all deemed OB so you can ground your clubs taking traps out of the mix. I love the elevation changes on several holes and would definitely play this course again.

Recovering from a harsh summer

Tee to greens are in pretty good shape. The course took a pounding this summer with all the rain and named storms that move through the area. The waste areas are in bad shape but they are trying to repair them. Hard to stay ahead of the storms. They are in the process of re doing the bunkers / waste areas and installing drainage. All that said I would play it again tomorrow. A real nice layout with undulation that is uncharacteristic for Florida courses. One of my favorite Florida courses.

Not in good shape

The layout is very nice. The service was awful. No bag boy, we had to drop off our bag and put them on the cart. The pro staff didn't know what range was open, and the food was mediocre at best.
The course other then the fairways was very poorly manicured and rough was non existent.
Currently 09/2012 this course is not a top 500 course.
Go to Black Diamond Quarry nearby if you can. That is a top 100 course.

One of the few courses I have played with its own character

Boy, is this course out of the way! However, if you decide to make the trip out to play Pine Barrens you will be smiling the entire long trip home. It is a really special design with a lot of sand and forest all around a cool course. Pine Barrens is a unique course in Florida which is what makes it so great. It has a powerful natural beauty and the best part of the whole course is how much space the property and course is on. It isn't crowded into a neighborhood, no, there's plenty of room for golf. The practice facility is top notch too. If you haven't played it then you must at least once. I will be back again.

NICE Course BUT

I belive that the course does not live to the hype advertised on the magazines, long way to go from Orlando to play in a nice course, but save your self a trip and play in better courses in the Orlando area at better prices.

Fastest Round I Ever Played

This has been deservedly ranked one of the best courses in the US. A personal favorite that I don't get the chance to play very often because of a 2 hour drive. Teed off as a single at 2:00 pm and was done by 5:15 pm. It had rained most of the morning, so evidently nobody wanted to risk getting drenched. Cart paths only made it a bit more walking than I would have preferred, but the fairways and greens were excellent.

Best Golf Course in Tampa region

Have played all the courses in the Tampa region including Sarasota/Bradenton and always come back to World Woods .
I prefer Rolling Oaks however Pine Barrens is more famous ... what does that tell you ? ... World Woods is Tampa Golf on a world scale and we should be proud our region has such a facility that the general public can play !!

Not the top 4 in Florida

Pine Barrens was an OK course to play in February but i didn't think it was a top 5 public course in the state.Maybe in the summer it gets better? I played Red Tail, Juliette Falls, Sanctuary Ridge and Candler Hills and i thought these were all in better shape and more fun to play. Any of the newer courses in The Villages are better too. For the $100.00 price you can find better course around.

Sanctuary ridge? That's a surprising comparison in regards to course condition as it is usually terrible
