Honey Bee Golf Club
About
Nestled in the heart of Virginia Beach, Honey Bee Golf Club is one of the area's most popular daily-fee golfing venues. Rees Jones designed the course, incorporating water on 10 holes as well as intricate bunkering throughout. The challenging layout has several tricky doglegs and some treacherous blind shots as well. It's a golf course that demands careful course management and some strategic thinking. Accurate shot placement is also key when maneuvering the rolling fairways and contoured greens. While it's by no means an easy golf course, it is an enjoyable round for players of all skill levels, making it a popular venue for tournaments and corporate outings. For golfers looking to get an entire day of golf in, Honey Bee's sister club, Stumpy Lake, is only about half a mile away.

Great golfing day with new friends but...
The day was almost perfect except for the flight behind us who had been so impatient from the 1st to the last hole. In the first hole, our lady golfer was still in the bunker when they started hitting their balls. They knew that it's reacheable but .... and at the 18th hole, we have not yet cleared the greens when they hit their balls again. One even went over us. Why a group of AH! No etiquettes at all.
The pacing was perfect as far as the front players were concerned.
A little surprized
I have played Honey Bee for over 15 years, but this last round was not enjoyable and may make me not want to return. The price and course conditions were not the problem, and the course staff was fine. My issue was with first having to wait for over 30 minutes for a cart and then the pace of play. Tee times should be posted and sold to the capacity of the course, not to see how many people you can put on the course. I ended up only playing nine holes (paid for 18) because of the pace of play. 2 1/2 hours to get through nine holes at this course is crazy.
Fine time at Honey Bee
I enjoy Honey Bee mostly because there are no repetitive hole. I played in the off-season, so the fairways were dormant, but the greens were in pretty good shape. The staff is always friendly, and today the pace was pretty good. Honey Bee won't challenge you with length, even from the tips (where I usually play it), but well placed bunkers, doglegs, and water hazards will keep your attention. I enjoy this course and look forward to playing again soon.
Great round
Staff is awesome. Greens and bunkers in great condition. Course well maintained. Will definitely be back.
Average course
Average course, short yardage. Usually well maintained, but rather pricey in season.
Worst experience in years
The course was way overbooked and the staff was completely overwhelmed. No range balls available. No carts available until at least your Tee time. The starter was allowing groups who already completed 18 holes to jump in line between others who had not even started yet slowing down things even more. Every tee box had 3 groups waiting to tee off. This was EVERY hole. We started at noon and it took us over 5 hours to only play 13 holes. On the 13th the Marshall was riding the course telling everyone to bring their carts in! Seriously? Sunset isn't until after 6 and you overbooked! When we came back in I tried to go into the pro shop to ask for a least a rain check but the place was locked up. I guess they new they would be getting quite a few visits. Also it was a 82 degree day and they had NO water on the course and NO beverage cart. I have been playing this course for years and have had such a bad experience as this. There are many other courses in the area for a lot less money that treat their customers better than this. It will be a long time before I give this one another chance
Sneaky Little Track
Played on Thanksgiving - weather was poor but we got a speedy round in since no one was there. Staff were very helpful and friendly - called them on the phone a couple times and were very accommodating. Course does not play even 6000 yards from the tips, but all par 3s (6 of them) averaged about 185 yards. Cannot let your guard down, the ball sits down in the Bermuda rough, greens rolled true and fairly quick. Some bunkers were in rough shape but they were marked GUR - which is the right thing to do, thank you! Good amount of geese on the course would like to have seen that controlled a bit better. One really gimmicky opening par 5 requires you to hit your tee shot through overhead powerlines - my only real downside to this course and would say please bulldoze that tee box and move it to where the lines are not in play which they have room to do. Well probably come back though.
Very good price
Got a round of golf at this course for $25 mid morning Last Minute Golfer rate. The course is quite busy with mostly locals even on a weekday. Course is interesting with a variety of layout. Some par 4 look quite similar but overall different setting for different hole. All par 3 are 160 or more from the 2nd to back tee. Was hoping for a few shorter one. Some nice hole over water with small green so quite challenging. Would help to include more signs to hazard. Overall an excellent value.
Great Course
Loved my experience at this course
Hot But a Great Course
It was summer so it was hot. OBV not the course fault. A great course to work on your game at all levels. Greens are in great shape and so are the fairways. The rough really penalizes you... be warned. It looks easy, but you will have a heck of a time striking the ball out of it.
Local gem.
Not my first time playing here, but the course is in outstanding condition. Greens are in outstanding condition. Austin, Jeff and their staff are friendly and welcoming. Great value and a ton of fun.
Great shape for heat of summer
Fairways and greens were in great shape given we played 7/12 after many hot dry days. Kudos to greenskeepers. Traps were thin with only about 1"- 1.5" of sand before hitting hardpan which required hitting ball with plucking swing rather than under and thru ball.
Nice course
Only played 9, but overall it was very nice
This course is in great shape.
I had a decent round at the B. Greens were in wonderful shape.
This course was challenging especially the 1st and 18th hole
Very good public course! the price was also very good.
Pleasant Surprise
This was last minute booking but the course layout, conditions & staff made for a great afternoon of golf.
It was a very pleasant surprise. I would highly recommend it.
Peak conditions
All the rain we have gotten and the past few weeks of warm weather have really brought this course in. A few of the bunkers need to be redone as its like hitting out of a parking lot it's so hard. The fairways were plush, tee boxes are just fine, the greens were a little grainy but held the line more times than not. DEFINITLY a must if you haven't golfed here before. It's a rather short course but its unique in the shot you are faced with. All in all, it's a pretty fun course to shoot every now and then.
enjoyable
fair ways in good condition and greens were faassst.
Best of the courses in the Hampton Roads Golf Clubs
My buddy and I tee'd off on April 11, 2016 right before a tournament went off. We had no trouble with the excess of golfers for the tourney because we got off earlier. Anyways, the course is in great shape! I don't know if they rolled the greens specifically for the tournament but they were fantastic! They were fast and true. The greens have a great deal of slope in them so it makes up for the short course even from the tips. The bunkers had some tight lies but its not quite golf season so give that a month or so for them to fix up. Overall, the course has 6 par 3's (so par 70), a lot of short par 4's (but also a big boy par 4 thrown in here and there), and the 4 par 5's where you had to be able to move your ball left or right to set up your next couple of shots. The course is only going to get in better shape as we near nicer weather and I highly recommend spending the money to play the course
Good value
Our foursome played in 37 degree weather with a bit of wind and even snow flurries. Needless to say, there was very little pressure on the course. (Only one other group of fools with us). Will gladly play Honey Bee again. One of our favorite courses.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
Im sorry the geese issue bothered you. I would think someone who goes by the handle eagle, doesn't fly among the geese.
As far as the power lines go, someone with your skill set of advanced could hit a nice trap draw no problem. Hit the range Partner!
Other than that I appreciate your review, very insightful.
