nice conditions! beautiful day!
as always one of my favorite south bay courses!!! if you like a challenge this is it!
Hilly and challenging
We fit this course into a week of play in Southern California. Course was in good condition, but beware of the firm fairways. The tips on the score card are essential if you have never played the course before.
Course is a work in progress under new ownership, with great scenery.
I have always enjoyed Salt Creek, under the previous ownership its condition deteriorated to the point that its gonna get worse before it gets better but you can see work crews on many holes and progress is being made i will return to support as long as i continue to see this. I cant wait to see the finished product.
Fast and Fun
I was staying away from this course because I felt it was unfair and very hard. Now it is very fair and is still challenging I will come back often the greens are fast and slick. This course will make you use every aspect of your game.
Good course for the low cost. Challenging.
The fairways need a lot of attention and/or water. Greens were in pretty decent shape. Since the last time I was there, it appears they have spent money on cart trails along the street. However, it feels like you going to fall off the cart path, over the curb into the street. The other direction, carts are to drive on the street, which makes you wonder, what was the point? Seems the money would have been better spent improving the fairways and border areas. All in all though, for the price, good day of golf and the beer was cold.
Bad day for Salt Creek
This is the 3rd time playing this course and was disappointed with it's condition. As a links style course in a semi arid desert one shouldn't expect trees, but grass would have been nice to play on. The greens weren't bad if they hadn't been punched AND seeded, but still playable. There was little to no rough or fairway grass, many dirt spots, and lots of ground under repair. On a positive note, their building up the clubhouse and their practice facility is great. The course itself neede some love for sure.
If you do play, fall-spring in the morning is nice.
Getting better
The new additions to the clubhouse are almost done. They are opening the addtional practice area's. Lots of people are starting to practice here in the evenings as it is possibly the best practice facility in the county. Greens are rolling well after Aerification early last month. Rough is more trimmed and Fariways seemed good.
fun to play this course
this course is fun to play for intermediate and advanced players.
The course in under new ownership and efforts are being made to better it's condition.
There are a lot of patchy areas in the fairways, and the new ownership is apparently trying to remedy that situation with large scale aeration over much of the course. The problem is the large plugs of ground that came up with the aeration litter much of the course. Some of the greens also had bald areas. The links style course does challenge you to be accurate in the fairways though, as errant shots can be harshly penalized. Fun to play, but I won't be returning anytime soon.
good
Great course but the greens were air raided and they did not let you know. I have golfed before on other golf courses and they lower there prices alot when they are air raided.
Disappointed that the front 9 was closed!!
We had to do the back 9 twice as the front 9 was closed. Would not have booked our foursome if we knew this ahead of time.
A real golf course for real golfers
If the golf course doesn't have money to run business perfect, they have to sacrifice something like - maintenance on course, unnecessary courtesy, abbreviate club house, etc.
This course cut money everything almost yet, the minimum of golf condition has been maintained. Beautiful greens, moderate fairway and beautiful tees! I won't complain anything, but I enjoyed my game so much.
Keep offering the best green fees!
Getting much better
I have been playing this course for about 5 years and have watched it go up and down. The new owners seem to be making it better every time I go back and play.
Sloping Fairways
You have to put the ball on the right side of the fairway or it might roll off. It's good fun, no trees, easy bunkers, low stingers roll forever.
Challenging and Beautiful
I met some friends here to play from out of town and it was a great day on fun but very challenging course.
I am a former 14 handicap.... haven't played for over 2 years. this course killed me but I can see through my old 14 hcp eyes that this would be a great course for a more frequent player.
Perfect fast and challenging greens that hold any decent approach. Local knowledge can save you 5 strokes or more.
Lots of OB areas and sloping fairways that make the roll play against you on a miss hit.
If your 18-20 hcp bring a few extra balls and leave the driver in your bag. Most holes you wont need driver.
Short game is the key to survival. Drive for show and putt for dough.
Good pace! Great time!
I booked my tee time through golfnow.com and for the price, I was not disapointed($19). The course, overall, was well maintained. The fairways were a little dry but other than that, I had a great time. I would definitely play there again as well as recomend the course to my friends.
a lot of fun to play. plays like scotish links wher the ball rolls forever. several elevaated tees .
a lot of fun to play. plays like scotish links wher the ball rolls forever
Excellent mix of challenging and scoring holes
This was my second time playing this course and i enjoyed it just as much as the first. It has a great mix of scoring holes and holes that will test every bit of your shot making ability. I will play this course again and would recommend it to any of my friends.
Best Value Course
You cannot beat the rates they have been offering to play this course. In the midst of updating Pro Shop, so there is some construction. When this course originally opened, play was over $100. You can get on for $35 now at pretty much anytime. Great view holes + its generally wide open due to remote location. Challening because even great shots not in the right place will penalize golfers. Only complaint - Send someone out to move SLOW golfers. Stuck behind group that decided its okay to play 5 hour round with NO one in front of them...UGH!! No marshalls.
Links course was fun and challenging
This course is a San Diego secret. Fun shot making on wide fairways allowed the ball to run run run. Elevation changes from tee to green on most holes. Most balls hooked or sliced were either in the desert or creek or gulch and gone for good. The greens were sloping, soft and somewhat fast. However, this is one course I would have replayed if I had the time to do it again.
