Uphall Golf Club
About
Uphall Golf Club began in 1895, when the golf course was erected on terrain leased from Sheriff Shairp, who lived on the neighboring Houston Estate. It's a convenient golf course to reach, sitting just seven miles west of the Edinburgh Airport, outside of Uphall Village. It is an 18-hole parkland course set amidst mature trees and features relatively flat land within somewhat tight boundaries, making for a test for all golfers.
Uphall Golf Club's course measures 5,588 yards at par 69. A round of golf kicks off on Mains, a par 4 that comes in at 404 yards from the medal tees. It makes for a challenging opening hole, especially when played into the west wind, requiring an accurate tee shot so as to stay clear of troubles on the left and right, and then golfers are just a medium-to-long iron from a slim green. The round concludes on Binnie Craig, a par-4, 383-yarder that offers an excellent closing hole, again when that west wind is blowing.
After the round, check out the Uphall Golf Club's clubhouse, where management assures that although you're at a "Members Club," you'll be "made extremely welcome."

Really pleasant golf club and people!
We had a wonderful time here. The course is quite challenging and very well kept, with absolutely no flooding after some very heavy rain the previous couple of days. As a new golfer I was unsure of how patient the players would be, but everyone we encountered was very understanding and someone even took the time to give us some tips! The guy who welcomed us was very friendly and talked us through the layout and par of every hole. Overall it was a very pleasant experience. I couldn’t recommend it more!
Golf
A good course in great condition, however the first 3 holes share fairways with other holes so lots of balls flying around, not great.
Holes 4-14 are much better.
Clubhouse is still being built so no catering but should be great when new clubhouse opens in September
Golf coarse
Coarse was in very good condition even a water drink fountain on the 10th. Very friendly pro in the shop explained the lay out of the coarse. No clubhouse as it’s still being build but will go back when it’s finished as it looks fab
As the weather improves, the just keeps getting better and better!
I have played Uphall a number of times the last year, it held up exceptionally well through a very wet winter. Now the the weather seems to have turned a corner, it just gets better and better every time I visit. The weather was lovely and that reflected on the course which was in pristine condition. Staff are very friendly and the pace of play is very fair, allowing time to enjoy your game. 5 Stars without a doubt!!
Golf day
Played Uphall today with my son and both of us enjoyed it. We were met in the car park by the starter who was very friendly and informative, passing on great info regarding how to play the course. The course is split into 2 sections, 1st section comprising holes 1-3 and 15-18 with the 2nd section comprising holes 4-14. The condition of the course considering the recent weather was 1st class, no wet spots at all and the greens were true and slick. My only grumble would be that if it was busy then there might be a danger of flying golf balls as there was a lot of crossover holes, but fortunately today it was quiet when we played. Loved the par 3, 15 which reminded me a little of the 12th at Augusta. My son 2 handicapper nearly holed his tee shot sticking it to 9" meanwhile me an 8 handicapper chunked it into the water 🙈😂. We both thoroughly enjoyed our round and would go back. I shot a 77 for a 69, not too bad considering I was +5 after 3 holes and my son a 70 for a nett 68, both of us had 4 birdies each plus the sun was shining so happy days
A gem of a course
IV played uphall a handful of times as a guest,it's a lovely course.
Always get a warm welcome, and very helpful staff.
Course was in great condition and the greens are excellent.
I look forward to returning and trying their new clubhouse when it opens in august.
Also very well priced for such a lovely course.
First time playing
Nice course, guy at starter a legend. Super nice and helpful. Bit slow play with backlog on 15 waiting for people to walk down. Few close calls with balls and no calls of fore
Fantastic Course shame about the members
Great course but daunting a lot of traffic and holes that criss-cross. Greens not great but to be expected this weather and time of year . Poor experience with members / locals , mild aggression , maybe just bad luck but certainly not welcoming however guy who worked in starters office was very warm and informative. Also could do with some better sign posting . I would play again in summer maybe get warmer welcome.
First time at Uphall
Course was in great condition, no fairways mats which was great. Greens were surprisingly fast! It was a very windy day which proved challenging. No clubhouse due to it being burned down but it is being rebuilt but there is a portacabin set up to get out of the weather. Staff were extremely friendly and offered some good advice about the course before teeing off.
Will certainly come back again!
Great Parkland Course
First time playing this course in a number of years, but to the point that I don't remember playing it at all.
Due to the recent frosty and wet weather, this was the only local course open on this day.
The clubhouse unfortunately burned down a number of years ago but the starter has a wee hut that you register at. Lovely gentleman there gabe us pointers on the course and ensured we knew what the conditions were like etc.
When we played there was a 3 ball ahead of the 2 of us and the pace of play was great as no one was behind us so we could take our time in getting to know the course.
One minor criticism is the shared greens and shared/crossed fairways may mean that during busy summer play, the course may feel crowded and pace of play will suffer for that.
It also appears very easy for the "locals" to just play on the opposite side of the road without paying/checking in as we noticed a number of players doing just that.
All in all though a good course with a great member of staff (I want to say Richard was his name but embarrassed that I've forgotten) at the helm.
Great round of golf
Shame club house was burned down as previously they had great facilities
Wouldn’t stop me playing it again as they’ve got a wee cabin for coffee and we’re extremely welcoming
Significant works ongoing!!
Some good and some not so good.
The good first; fairways and greens (the ones which were on, I’ll come back to that!) were in great condition, dry despite loads of rain previously and lush. There were some lovely holes, notably the par 3’s. The layout is a little quirky, the first few and last few holes being on one side of the road, and there’s a few shared fairways / greens. The middle part of the course can seem a bit straight up and down, but overall there’s enough variety in the holes. There’s also a few bits of the course you could definitely get lost searching for the next tee box, but staff and members were very helpful in keeping us right.
Now the bad; when we’d spoken to the starter he mentioned there was some work going on. We were already aware the old clubhouse had burnt down and was being rebuilt, so the 18th was temporarily a par 3, which was fine. He then said they’d cored a few greens, so there “ may be 2 or 3 winter greens also”… we counted 11 winter greens! Some of them look like they’ll be out for quite a while too - why not just be honest and let us know? We would probably have chosen to play elsewhere, as we had a couple of options. We enjoyed the round due to the otherwise excellent condition, and would consider revisiting when it’s back to it’s full and proper condition and layout (new clubhouse due March / April 2024)..
Lovely wee course.
Great wee course. Quite short but you really do have to plot your way round otherwise it will bite you. Greens were perfect. The18th is reduced to a par 3 as they build the new clubhouse. Still a lovely hole but I felt it was over cautious. A ban on using drivers on the hole would have been enough. I’ll definitely be back.
