Hate to see a great course get in this condition
You can tell that this was once a truly great course. The layout is awesome and it is a true test to ones ability. The greens are still in very good condition and thay roll true. The bad is the dried out fairways and unkept rough and areas around. Worth playing just to see the layout and imagine what it once was or could be again if the right ownership took over.
Good deal on premier course
Played the course twice before and it would compete with any country club. This round was ok. Price was right, the personnel were nice and club house was as I remembered. The course on the other hand was not "up to par". Overgrown would best describe the course condition. The tees were mowed and they seemed to try and save the greens. The rough was over grown. Thought was maybe a US Open flavor but soon turned into weeds that were 2 to 3 foot high. Some bunkers had more weeds than sand. Cart paths for the most part are in shambles. Too bad this place did not take off. I understand this place has has some troubles but if I was a resident or member or had a membership this would be embarrassing to bring anyone to play. Hopefully just enduring another 'rough patch' and things will pick up for the better soon. It was a hot day and water stations on the course was appreciated.
Bucket List
Mowers must be broken, as well as must be out of weed killer. Very dies appointed as hot deal was an too much as well for course not maintained. Lost many balls in rough.
Great course and great value
The greens were impeccable. Absolutely loved them! My complaint is the greens and fairways looked like they don't get mowed often. They are short and soft but with random 4 to 12 inch tall weeds. They aren't everywhere so it's like they just forgot to mow over the past couple weeks. The rough was even worse and again that's due to lack of maintenance. That is my only complaint. This course is every bit worth the money and with a little basic maintenance I would have given it 5 stars. If you are considering this course you can stop thinking and just play it. I am a picky player and that was my only complaint and the only reason I did is because I like to mention what I like and dislike about the courses I review. I will definitely play it again when in the area! Two thumbs up
Great layout rough shApe
Always wanted to play this course. Used to have LPGA event here. Apparently a new management team has just taken over and I expect the conditions will improve dramatically. The greens are in very good shape but the rough and fairways are like Scotland on a bad day. You can see the expensive rock work and a good bit of water. Can't wait to go back when it is fixed up. Great staff. Very friendly
Best greens I've ever seen
Beautiful layout
Large bent grass greens
Reminds me of Augusta National greens
Challenging course and fun to play
Mt. Vintage Weeds Gone Wild
The course gave me hope when I arrived , unfortunately , too many Weeds , all over , the fairway , the 2nd cut is Weeds , was told "Integrity" owns this course now ....such a shame the course is being devoured by Weeds. The pictures on the site are nice , say it Used to look like Augusta ....No Way , not today , such a shame .
Beautiful
This was the first time I've played this 9 but it's just as fun and challenging as the other two. I love this place and it's close to home.
Awesome
This was my second trip to this course and I love it
Great design, nice greens but the rest???
Great course but unbeliveble bad conditions on tees, fwy, ruff.
Perfect greens though
Hidden Gem. Excellent course
We played here while going to the Masters. It was a pleasant surprise. While we did feel a little gouged for the $150 Master's week rate, it was a great course and value for it's normal $25-50 rate. Very similar slopes and layout to Augusta National although certainly not as plush which is understandable. Beautiful water holes and bridges. A very good challenge for the mid to low handicapper. There were 3 9's and we played Vintage and Chester. Staff was extremely friendly. True southern hospitality. A must play if you're visiting Augusta and got the itch to play.
Best money ever spent to play golf. Been playing for 25 years.
Beautiful course. Great greens. Never payed to play a better course for under 25 bucks. Very peaceful . Staff was very nice.
Course is Shaping Up!
The course is shaping up nicely! The warn weather has the grass turning green. Greens are in great shape. Staff is very friendly and accomadiating! Look forward to playing there again soon.
Very nice
The staff was great, an the 27 hole layout is a awesome. The only thing was the bunker needed a little tlc
Definitely worth playing again
Our first visit to Mount Vintage Plantation Golf Course didn't disappoint. The course was beautifully maintained, especially for early spring conditions. We can only imagine how beautiful the course will be once fully green and foliage in full bloom. The greens were screaming fast and pin placements challenging. Of the 27 holes available, we played the Independence 9 and the Chester 9, which were both very nice layouts. The Vintage 9 was closed due to maintenance. The staff members were very friendly and helpful, even allowing us to drive a cart on the cart path around the Vintage course so we could see its layout. We definitely will return to play Mount Vintage Plantation on our next trip south.
great golf
May be the hardest course I've ever played. Course was wet cart path only making course longer and tougher. Fantastic elevation fast greens a must play played independent and Chester outstanding.
unbelievable
This may be the most spectacular golf course I have ever played. The elevation and contours are like no other. Unfortunately. The course was very wet and. I was limited. To cart path only. Without. Any roll to ball this may be the hardest course I've. Ever played. Greens quick with nasty pin placements. The negatives' are poor signage and no hole description. Would have enjoyed a beer after round but kitchen and bar shut down at 4pm. Course was fantastic deal would love. To play it when it dry's out. A must play.
Highly recommend
My partner just picked up the game so she found somewhat difficult. The course is welcoming from the bag drop to the 18th green
A tale of two nines
We played the Independent and Chester 9's. Independent was in great shape, with a great "feel" to it. Chester was just the opposite
Mount Vintage GC
27 hole facility off the beaten path about 10 miles west of exit 5 from I-20 SC. When it opened it was a first class facility that had LPGA events for few years. Course has tapered off in the conditions arena since then but still a solid course for this area. Played Chester original front nine and Independent new nine. Its winter conditions and comparable to the other courses I play in the area, been wet and very windy these last few weeks adding to the fun factor. All three nines have a challenging layout that can frustrate and humble you when you don't hit a good drive to start a hole, many doglegs where you can easily add 30 - 40 yards to a hole or be in trouble, water, OB or in bunkers if you miss on the short side. That being said I only lost one ball mainly from my own stupidity trying to carry a water hazard Chester #9 par 5 with a 3 wood from the rough in a damp area, so the course is somewhat forgiving if you can force yourself to play smart and away from trouble which is abundant. Greens a little slower on the Chester nine vs the Independent nine. Bunkers consistent. Nice clubhouse. Hope to play again when it dries out.
Thank you for your comments. We are currently awaiting/highly anticipating the arrival of our new maintenance equipment package. This will make a big difference.
