The Golf Club at North Hampton
About
The Golf Club at North Hampton offers a traditional Scottish links-style course right in northeast Florida. Designed by Arnold Palmer, the layout meanders through dramatic elevation changes of over 40 feet and ten spring-fed lakes lined with coquina boulders. Sprawled across rolling hills and wild grasses, the golf course is sculpted from beautiful Florida woodlands, offering a round that is as scenic as it is challenging. The Golf Club at North Hampton's hard-to-read greens are massive and move very quickly. There are also tight fairways, many of which feature blind approaches. To make it even trickier, strong winds often sweep through the course, some even reaching a speed of 30 miles an hour.

What a great course
We wanted to break our journey from Orlando to Savannah and were lucky that this course was picked purely for that reason. The area was not known to us and we were delighted with this challenging course - friendly staff. The course was spread widely with most holes hidden from the others. The greens were SO difficult to read, and a three putt was easy if you were on the wrong side of the hole. We both loved it, and it is in a really great part of the world, North of Jacksonville. The Crab Trap is only 15 minutes away on the Historic Town. Heaven!
While We're Young!
We made a tee time during a recent visit to the area based on positive reviews on golf now. We had a 12:50 tee time and arrived 30 minutes early to loosen up. First, they had run out of carts so we had to wait for someone to finish to put our clubs on a cart. Then we bought some range balls only to learn that they had run out of those too. So then we proceeded to the tee for a 12:50 start. We teed off on time only to find 3 groups lined up on the second tee box. THREE hours later we had finished the 9th hole. We ended our round at 6:37. Over 5 &1/2 hours for a round of golf is just wrong. If your going to hold tournaments on the weekend you still need to make sure the pace stays at least <5 hours.
On 14 we came to the tee box only to find two threesomes playing the par three together. After teeing off they drove the cart over to the water and left it there until they finished (yes, on the par three). We called and the manager did come out and apologize, refunded 1/2 our fees (and the cost of the range balls that were never provided), and offered a future free round.
On the positive side, we loved the course and the staff was very friendly and courteous. The course was in great shape, the greens were fast and in great shape for this time of year. The course offers many interesting holes with well placed bunkers and hazards. It's a great layout and several sets of tees offer golfers of all levels a reasonable choice. But no service recovery can make up for a pace that is totally out of touch with where the game needs to go. Hopefully management will pay more attention to ensuring that pace of play does not deteriorate to such an unacceptable level (tournament or not).
zero customer perspective
Played two holes in wind and rain. Said we'd get a raincheck if weather worsened. It did and we gave up. These clowns gave us a credit for 9 holes ! Not worth arguing with penurious management but never set foot on this track again. Course has good skeleton but in poor condition...fairways are bare. Greens resemble, in places, a miniature golf course with a sadist setting pin placements at least on one of the two holes played. Course clearly needs professional management as this club is an amateurish "club".
It's very interesting that someone would leave such a review after playing only 2 holes. I guess the other 300 plus people got it all wrong.
We're sorry you had a poor experience in addition to poor weather. We do have a rain check policy in place which allows 9 hole credits if you play more than 4 holes and less than 13 holes. Bermudagrass fairways do thin slightly in the winter due to colder temperatures, but we're growing and in great shape now!
Challenging Course
Beautiful Golf course with some elevation for this area. Would recommend a layout of the course on the score sheet. Will play here again.
Greens very fast
Playing this course for $20 was a nice bargain. They should open up more tee times at this rate. The course was empty. This time of year, early March, fairways and rough were still dormant, and stray shots were not penalized. Putting was great after agjusting for speed of greens. 3 Long birdies with old putter (being given a fourth or fifth chance) from somewhere deep in the closet.
One of Arnie's Best
We have enjoyed this course many times over the last two seasons. A good test for us, and very good shape, even in the dormant grass season. The greens are very tricky and some local knowledge is a big help. Staff is great, food is fine, service is very good.
Nice big greens
1st time playing this course, we had passed it a lot as we played different courses on Amelia island. Back 9's a lot prettier than the front. The greens are fast & large with lots of undulations. I was disappointed with the fairways as they were very tight & bare. But we'll be back, when the fairways are better. Also there were to many blind tee shots, that ended up in ponds as the scorecards or tee boxes don't have a map to show you the problem areas as I'm used to seeing playing other courses.
You'll be happy to know we now offer a course guide in the Pro Shop free of charge! The temperature is on the rise and the grass is growing again! Thanks for the comments!
Solid course!
One of the best courses I've played in north Florida! Each hole varies greatly in layout and design, not your typical flat Florida course. Decent change in elevation, challenging hole layouts and green placements.
Some fairways are a little blind as you move down the hole but I found nothing to be an annoying surprise. Some fairways were a little tight but nothing too excessive.
The bunkers were nice, a good mix of difficulties throughout the course. Fairways and greens in excellent condition.
Staff was super friendly, much appreciated.
Good value
Very nice golf course and pleasant conditions---good value
Phenomenal course.
Beautiful design, great conditions. Must play if you are in the area.
Excellent
First time playing this course. Beautiful track with lots of water. Target golf course that offers great views. Greens rolled true, held on approach shot and had good speed. Tees and fairways in great shape as well. Staff friendly and no problem with pace of play today. Great warm up areas. Will certainly be back.
well deserving of 5 stars
This course may be one of the top courses that my wife and i have ever played. Conditions were top notch. I would highly recommend to anyone of any skill level.
Friendly Staff
North Hampton has a lot of great features. The people working there were very friendly. The course is in great shape, but be prepared. There are a lot of bunkers and water. Bring some extra golf balls.
I'd go back
Played with friends that had played this course before and wanted to go back.
Very interesting and fair golf course. The back nine is more fun with more interesting holes. Greens were in great shape and fairly quick.
I will go back; great deal at the GolfNow price.
Beautiful layout
This course is well layed out & challenging
We love the Crab Trap! Thanks for stopping on your journey to visit us! We'll see you the next time through!
