The Golf Club at North Hampton
About
The Golf Club at North Hampton offers a traditional Scottish links-style course right in northeast Florida. Designed by Arnold Palmer, the layout meanders through dramatic elevation changes of over 40 feet and ten spring-fed lakes lined with coquina boulders. Sprawled across rolling hills and wild grasses, the golf course is sculpted from beautiful Florida woodlands, offering a round that is as scenic as it is challenging. The Golf Club at North Hampton's hard-to-read greens are massive and move very quickly. There are also tight fairways, many of which feature blind approaches. To make it even trickier, strong winds often sweep through the course, some even reaching a speed of 30 miles an hour.

Nice course
North Hampton is not far from the Greater Jacksonville . The course Layout is challenging and a bit windy mostly. The green were a bit bumpy, and sand trap were not in good shape. But overall experience was rewarding and we’ll come and play again!
Snafu
I booked securely, but the club had no record of my booking. Busy day for golf, pace was incredibly slow, no Marshall. It is a great golf course, just find an off time
Has Potential
The course has wonderful potential to be a great course. The day I played the greens had recently been sanded and the fairways and rough were in poor condition. For the money right now I would go elsewhere.
Brought a friend and had a great time.
We had an excellent day on a tough golf course. We were greeted by the starter who gave us the course book which was invaluable. This is a very interesting course and course management is important. Lay ups are necessary to avoid finding the water on certain holes. It makes it more fun to play when placing the ball to specific spots to get a shot into the green. Staff was great.
Make sure you get the book and enjoy!
Airport -> Baggage Claim -> GC at North Hampton
I've played North Hampton 3 times now and I like it better each time I go. First it's convenient for out of towners. It's about 20 minutes north of the airport so you can get there and back and not have to worry about any rush hour traffic. Perfect for sneaking a round in at arrival or before you leave.
Second, it's affordable and fast. I caught the twilight rate twice on my last trip to Jacksonville. Only $25! I played the first day as a single and was able to zip around. The next day I played with a co-worker and we cranked out 9 holes before our flights. The pace was straight out of golf heaven.
Third and most important, it's a fun track. The holes are all really interesting, require some thought, but are never unfair. The first hole is the about the only one that's straight out. The following holes feature bunkers, water, subtle doglegs. You need to plan your shots and pick your clubs, not just smash driver 14 times. It's tons of fun. Rolling ups and downs through out the course are great too. The Golf Club and North Hampton is on my short list in the Jacksonville area.
The greens are in bad shape
I’ve played this course quite a few times. It has definitely been in better shape. The greens were pretty bad, looks like they had some kind of fungus. Not with the full price right now. Hopefully they get it back to what it used to be.
So Disappointed
North Hampton has always been one of my favorite courses for years. Was very disappointed with the condition of the greens. Especially given that the rates still reflect optimum playing conditions. A morning and weekend round is still $75. We went out int he afternoon and paid $42. Also was embarrassed as I brought a business associate from out of town. I would have gone to one of the Amelia Island courses had I known the condition of the greens. Also just shaking my head when I was told the "why's" behind the conditions. Sure sounded like a lack of Florida experience, IF the information was accurate. No notice as to the condition on the website. This will not be a quick fix. Fairways were also surprisingly sparse, but that can be remedied by playing spring rules. Here's hoping the newer owners figure it out. Oh, I see that one still can't get a beer and a sandwich after a round if the sun is setting. Just weird....
Poor greens!
The greens were in poor condition and slightly top dressed with sands. I was told that Hurricane Irma had a negative impact. Before booking a tee time here, I suggest calling the pro shop and ask about the condition of the greens.
Not good
My cart died on hole 6. I quit after 11 holes because it was taking way to long to play.
Great Layout, Poor Greens
I've played this course about 80 times over the past 10 years and its had its ups and downs with changes in management and ownership. Currently there is an ongoing (for the past 6 months) issue with a fungal invasion on the greens (allegedly). This is the hardest course in Jacksonville as you cannot spray your tee shot and hope to recover/find it. Every hole is unique with not a boring one in the bunch. What made North Hampton so fantastic previously were the fantastic, firm and fast greens that were even MORESO in the winter due to the fact that they do not overseed. Right now, the greens are awful...lots of dead spots and they are kept slow and sloppy (I am guessing to help lateral growth into the fungal/dead areas). Tee boxes, fairways and bunkers are in very good shape, so if you can get over the green conditions, you'll enjoy the day. Maybe make a group rule to allow moving the ball on the greens so you can putt on even, living grass.
Good Deal
Nice track, not boring, some dramatic holes. Usually not to crowded, can be slow if you get behind some groups.
NORTHAMPTON
The course was in very good shape! Greens putted true. Pace was great. Thanks! Will play again!
Very nice tract
Very challenging course. Look fwd to playing course in summer when everything is green and grass is thick. Course is a challenge but fair. Plan to play it again.
Arnie did it Again!
Mr Palmer designed a masterpiece. Although, I didn't know he designed some diabolical greens. A few greens really surprised me with several layers, contours from every direction. There were lots of large traps, certainly on the dogleg corners. The course is very playable, like Arnie always insured.
I just wish the Club would pave the cart paths. Sandy paths everywhere don't get it for me. Yes, boku bucks. But, it would bring me back sooner.
Starter was inabsentia.
