FUN, short course. Great for beginners!
Played on a cloudy, wet afternoon in LA. The course was not busy and was in good condition. Holes are short, which puts a premium on accurate iron play. It seems like a great place to learn golf as a beginner. I appreciated the local rule allowing players to pick up from the neighboring fairway and take a free drop on your hole.
Terrible pace of play
Be ready to tee off 1 hour past your scheduled time and finish 18 holes in 6.5 hours.
Good for an easy day out
I play here frequently, and I like Westchester for an accessible and wallet-friendly round. The course can run slow due to the front 9 getting bogged down in the morning with some walking the course and some riding. To that, I usually walk it cuz the pace is already slow. Speeds up around hole 5.
They do their best to maintain the course, but it gets a lot of use from all levels of golfer so you can expect some of the greens to be a bit messy, muddy areas around the fairways, and a general public kinda vibe. That’s not a knock. It’s kinda what makes this course an easy choice to just go play a casual round. There are often maintenance crew members dotting the course too which can be distracting but they don’t seem to be at all bothered by balls flying, so ya just sorta swing away and hope for the best.
Overall, I would recommend this course as one of the better options on the west side where you can actually get a tee time and play, and I often do.
Great place to hone skills
As a beginner golf enthusiast I would say that this course was perfect for me as a beginner to enjoy and play with others who were more knowledgeable. Definitely not just for beginners but also great for people starting out. The staff is friendly to a point for sure but my experience was very pleasant. Definitely recommend and will be playing there a lot more now!
Tried and True
Good ole Westchester CC. This is my home course and, for the price, availability of tee times, proximity to home, and (recently improved) pace of play, I absolutely can't complain. $55/round with a cart. The conditions (fairways/greens) are decent. It can be a little dangerous with balls flying everywhere, but nothing you can't manage.
If you have less than a foursome, you'll generally get paired up with some good/interesting people.
