Crescent Pointe Golf Club

About
Crescent Pointe Golf Club in Bluffton is Arnold Palmer's only public course in the area. It is conveniently located just a few minutes west of the bridge leaving Hilton Head Island. Opened in 2000, the course has quickly gained a reputation as being one of the Lowcountry's best. Sprawling across a lush landscape blanketed with century-old oaks and towering pines, the layout is as scenic as it is challenging. While the generous fairways may be player friendly, the difficult approaches to the elevated, well bunkered greens are anything but. The large, pristine white sand bunkers were designed in true Palmer-style, closely following the natural undulations of the land. The gently rolling terrain is unique for the area. Crescent Pointe Golf Club's elevation changes aren't dramatic but they do provide some subtle, but tricky undulations in the greens that make it hard to find a flat lie.

Slow play
I went by myself for a 9 AM Tee time. It was supposed to be very hot(105 deg). So I wanted to be done by 1. I got off early and didn't see anyone in front if me, but as I finished the hole, I saw a threesome just Teeing off on 2. I waited and waited and waited. I know I was a single and they were a threesome, but 10 minutes of waiting on every stroke is not fun and totally ruins your rhythm. By the time I got to the 4th hole and elderly foursome of 2 women and 2 men were now waiting for me at every Tee. There were two threesome foreigners playing in front of me and that was the hold up. Ready golf, not even close. It was now 3 hours in and I'm still only at the 7th hole. I decided that after 9 I would just quit. I returned to the clubhouse and the cart guy asked me why I was done already. I told him the story and he said I saw those guys going out, but didn't know they were playing so slow. The carts have a gps, so I know the pro shop can see how fast the groups are playing, but there was no course marshal to enforce it.
The fairways seemed to be in ok condition, but the greens were not and some of the cart paths were terrible. Its an Arnold Palmer course, too bad, but it wasn't a good experience. Oh and green fees were $75 with a cart.
Nice course, getting better, still needs work
Greens were smooth and well cut but patchy in places. Would like to have seen the traps in better shape and maintained. Tee boxes were always good. Fairways are beautiful, lush, and well maintained. Loved the challenge a lot of water on the course. I know it’s coming, but areas of the cart paths were gone while some were great. This course has potential to be the best off-island 18 holes in the area. The new owners have a great vision for the future of Crescent Pointe.
Enjoyed the layout
Very friendly staff
Course staffbworking hard to deal with wet conditions - standing water and wet conditions in several bunkers
Course layout very nice - several signature holes with challenging marsh hazards
Greens were fast and some with interesting grading
Cart paths were generally in good condition
Overall the good far outweighs the bad at this course
Would definitely return to play again
Nice coarse
Overall a good day, great pace of play, greens decent
GPS geofence needs adjusting
We played 2 days earlier and enjoyed the layout but the pace of play and tagmarshall gps were annoying . We thought we’d give it another go. What a mistake that was! Pace of play was much worse with as many as 4 groups waiting on a 4 some on the dogleg right par 5z fortunately they quit after 9 but the rain started on 11 and washed out our round. Won’t play again unless they address pop and beeping geofence!
Enjoyable Round
The course has a great layout, with overall decent conditions—though a few greens could use some work. The cart attendant seemed a bit aggressive and unpleasant, clearly not enjoying his job. The carts themselves could use an upgrade.
Good value for a public course
Friendly staff….course conditions are average but decent.
1st time playing course
Since most of the courses we play on hhi were just aerated, we ventured off the island and just picked crescent. Staff inside and out were cordial. Starter was nice enough to tell us that the 2 groups in front of us could be cause for a long afternoon and I thanked him for his honesty. Many blind shots and challenging holes for a first time player. The GPS was a little confusion g unless you knew the pin placements in advance but we were not informed. Overall, we thought the layout was very good, fairways needed seeding and greens were just ok. The one thing that was really annoying was something on the GPS called the Geofence which kept beeping even when we were on the cart path. Really needs to be disarmed! Overall, the course was challenging and we will play again in the future. (Please do something about the GeoFence!)

Crescent Pointe Golf Club Review
I recently played at Crescent Pointe Golf Club for the first time, and I was thoroughly impressed. The clubhouse is clean and organized, creating a welcoming atmosphere from the moment you arrive. The staff is not only friendly but also knowledgeable, adding to the overall positive experience.
The golf course itself is beautifully designed, featuring a challenging layout with water hazards, sand traps, and various obstacles that come into play throughout the round. I found myself using every club in my bag, which shows just how engaging this course is.
For those with a mid to high handicap, this course will present a tough challenge. However, returning to play here allows you to improve your skills, making it a rewarding experience. Each hole tests your approach shots, chipping, and putting, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of your game.
Overall, I can’t wait to come back to Crescent Pointe Golf Club. It’s a fantastic course that promises a great day on the links!
Green
Green conditions poor with mixed bare/sand/mud/short crop grape
/med-cropped grass - greens need some care
Enjoyable
My husband and I played on a Friday late morning. The course was in good shape and pace of play was good. As an average golfer I fully enjoyed my round.
Disappointed!
The golf course was really disappointing! Greens and fairways need attention… the bunkers are horrible no sand ! And cart paths need repair or replacement. I won’t be back.
Good value
Let me start by saying this course has a special place in my heart as I actually helped build it shape it grow it in and take care of it when it first opened. The layout is challenging but it's not back breaking. You definitely need to place your shots and it's not just a spray it around golf course. You can certainly get into trouble. Overall conditions weren't bad. Sure there are spots that could use an improvement especially if you the greens but I did not find it to be in that better shape. There were a couple guys who came off the course as I was checking in and I asked him how it was and they seemed to indicate the course was in worse shape than when I found it. They said the greens were slow however I found the greens to be a very good pace. Not slow in my estimation at all. Have I seen this course and better shape? Yes. When I was there hoping to take care of it the course was always in very good condition. All this place needs is someone to put more money into it than they currently are. Whoever is managing it if they wouldn't invest more money per year into the upkeep of the course you can charge much more and people would pay much more to play it. If they want to put a mid product out there and just get money well that's only going to get you so far. Invest in it and it will reward you greatly. It's an Arnold Palmer design! That are being said I was pleased with the value I paid for the product that was out there. Roughly 57 and some change for 18 holes per person.
