About
Crescent Pointe Golf Club in Bluffton is Arnold Palmer's only public course in the area. It is conveniently located just a few minutes west of the bridge leaving Hilton Head Island. Opened in 2000, the course has quickly gained a reputation as being one of the Lowcountry's best. Sprawling across a lush landscape blanketed with century-old oaks and towering pines, the layout is as scenic as it is challenging. While the generous fairways may be player friendly, the difficult approaches to the elevated, well bunkered greens are anything but. The large, pristine white sand bunkers were designed in true Palmer-style, closely following the natural undulations of the land. The gently rolling terrain is unique for the area. Crescent Pointe Golf Club's elevation changes aren't dramatic but they do provide some subtle, but tricky undulations in the greens that make it hard to find a flat lie.

A nice layout spoiled
The course layout is great. Interesting holes and bunkering It’s a shame the maintenance I was so very poor. The greens were painted green, the traps looked they’d not been thoroughly raked and removed of debris in ages. The tee boxes had weeds growing where one expects well trimmed grass. The fairways were patchy and the roughs were full of holes and hard pan The cart paths will give you whiplash.
They need to sell the place to someone who cares about golf.

Not as good as before
I play this course twice a year when I’m in HHI. Unfortunately I have to say that the course was in the worst condition that I can remember. Greens were a bit patchy but did roll well. Fairways were very patchy with bare spots.
I love this course but felt it has declined.

Poor Course Conditions
Arnold Palmer would be disappointed his name is a credit to this course.
Golf cart paths and bridges in very poor condition.
Some sand traps are more like mud traps.
Players refused to recognize course cart rules and were traveling wherever they wanted to.
We recognize that Covid-19 is a factor in the possibility of the lack of grounds help but for the price we paid we expected more beautiful and clean course.

The greens were good, the layout was excellent, the tee-boxes were poor, the fairways were fair and the cart paths were the worst ever seen.

Not up to Par
An interesting course that we’ve played many times and enjoyed, both in terms of the layout and conditioning. This time the greens were pretty good but everything else was substandard. Fairways were hard with lots of bare patches and sand … to say lies were ‘tight’ was an understatement. For what we paid - approx $80, there are better options on the island - Dolphin Head, Palmetto Hall and Bear Creek to name three that we played that were in far better condition for the same or less money. Give it a pass right now.

Great layout. Average conditions.
Played 3-18-22. Cart paths are not great but ok. Other reviews mentioning poa annua on greens overstate the issue. Yes greens will be better in season but still decent in dormant winter condition. Staff was super nice. Got around in 3.5 hours on Friday afternoon. Fun, difficult layout. I play 80 rounds a year at 9 handicap. I will be back.

Great layout and diversity of holes
Unfortunately, and as I’m sure you know, the course conditions deserve at best “one star”. Clubhouse staff don’t seem to be service oriented or friendly, compared to other courses in the area.
I could enjoy playing the course on a recurring basis, but would expect better conditions and a more welcome environment.

Great layout
Fantastic layout. I am a 6 handicap, it offered a nice challenge. Greens were great. Course conditions elsewhere could have been better. I think that had a lot to do with the time of the year we played

What A Shame.
I have played this course many times but did not play at all the last year. Approximately 3 years ago Hallmark Golf purchased this course and 3 others with a promise to invest in these courses. The course I played which was the Crescent Pointe Golf Club used to be a private course for the housing community in which it was located. It was in better shape then, but still needed work. The course I played yesterday was in sad shape. I realize this is not the growing season. However, when you hit the ball in the fairway you expect to have enough grass to give you a decent lie. Not the case here. There were times my ball came to rest on bare dirt with no grass at all. Most of the greens were playable, but nothing to write home about except the sixteen hole. The green was completely gone! I don’t know what happened here, but it’s a mess! The cart paths were back breakers as well. All-in-all a rough experience, which is why I don’t think I’ll be back anytime soon.

Interesting course
Nice design to the course, challenging but not overly difficult. Needs some work to cart paths, tee boxes, and a few greens.

Crescent Pointe on 3/7/2022
We started out on the wrong foot with the greeter. I asked for an extra bottle of sand as when 2 of us play and we have time between holes,... I like to leave a course better than I found it and repair tee box and fairway divots. That is the #1 rule in golf,..... leave the course better than you found it. The cart person said "no" to an extra bottle of sand to work on tee box and fairway divots..... first time someone has ever told me "no".
After a couple of holes, we encroached on the twosome in front of us that was falling behind pace of play due to a fivesome playing in front of them holding everyone back. The threesome behind us was now also waiting on tee boxes for us to hit. No ranger to be found.
On the fourth hole, about 4 carts went by us going the wrong way, one lady in each cart, saying "Sorry"!
On the fifth hole we crossed a street and had 4 carts of ladies now in front of us and the twosome that we were following. We drove past by all of them and asked the twosome if we could join them. They agreed. The course became very crowded in a couple of holes time. We suspect a ladies afternoon league play must have started on holes 3 and 4 as the ladies came off the street into the middle of play. That should not be allowed. It would have been appropriate for the league to start at the clubhouse,...my opinion only.
Would I go back,.... not in this lifetime.
And,..... the tee boxes and fairways could have used some divot repair!
I used what sand I had ( from the 2 bottles on the cart) on a few tee boxes and fixed some large fairway divots too. My wife said I was foolish to fix divots at this course but I still followed what my golf coach taught me... Follow rule #1 - leave a course better than you found it.
Second comment. If the residents want to play in groups of 5 and start their play on whatever hole is closest to them,...then so be it.
They live there, they may feel they have the right to play in groups of whatever size they want.
So as not to be part of the problem, I will offer a solution or two.
1) Inform the general public of slow pace of play and that people may come out on certain afternoons to play a 9 hole scramble. That way, it is at least fair to paying customers to decide if they want to play there and deal with how the course is operated or managed. Getting this on the website some how, would be helpful.
2) Maybe the course could offer a reduced rate (on selected afternoon play) to compensate for the out of the ordinary golf play allowed....?
That way the residents get what they want and visitors are forewarned in advance.

Terrible Condition!
Can’t believe they charge top dollar for a course in terrible condition. Did expect winter conditions but not expect weeds and bare spots on tee boxes, bare spots on fairways, any no grass on rough areas! Most greens were ok but a few had bare spots and disease. Rough around the green are were also bare in spots and weedy. This course has been neglected.

Terrible shape
I know winter conditions are not always great but this course was in horrible shape. No grass at all in fairways. Course not very well maintained. Most of the greens were ok but a few were terrible.
Layout is actually challenging which I liked.
Hopefully I just caught the course at a bad time. Maybe when weather improves course conditions will also.
