About
Baytowne Golf Club at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort is routed from the beach to the bay, providing stunning views along the way. The course rolls across the few elevation changes that the area has to offer. Although it opened in 1984, the golf course didn't reach its peak until it underwent extensive renovation in 2005, which were carried out by the original designer, Tom Jackson. The layout features rolling fairways lined with mature pines that are generous and times but can be tight when you least expect it. The large, undulating greens can also play faster than what you might be expecting. Water, which comes into play on 12 holes, is a prominent feature of Baytowne Golf Club as are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout.

Greens were terrible
The overall layout of the course is a good track and challenge. If I would’ve been informed that the greens had been over seeded, and were probably the slowest greens I have ever played on I would’ve never played there.

Don't get out of the truck
There are a lot of lousy reviews about this course due to the greens being in poor condition. Hey! that's true. They have an invasive grass issue and it's a sad story. This is a fun layout and the staff are all really good people. Don't take it out on them. Go play and enjoy the layout. It's a fun golf course.

Good course except for greens.
The overall course was good and enjoyable. However it did not appear that the greens had been rolled or mowed for a while. They were quite slow and rather bumpy. A little care with greens and would b very enjoyable course. Staff is great, very friendly and helpful. Hope greens are in better condition my next trip.

Course MUCH improved
I am a member at Sandestin and regularly play at most of the courses.
On Oct 30, 2023 I would rate the following
Tees - perfect, well manicured
Fairway - lush, well mowed, excellent
Rough - mowed but deep enough to be penal if you miss in the wrong place (as it should be)
Greens - good, rolling well, not slow but not fast either. You still must strike the putt, but it's predictable.
This is a HUGE improvement over 30 days ago. Worth playing once more

Beautiful Course
The course layout is wonderful. The course is in good shape, but the sand traps were pretty hard. The staff was very professional and helpful

Greens are in terrible shape. Very difficult to putt when the balls are bouncing all over the place. Very slow also.

Greens are terrible
Greens as bad or worse than neglected municipal course.

Needs work
Have played Baytowne many times over the years and I have to say that the course is currently in the worst shape I've ever seen. Normally, the courses here (Baytowne, Links, Raven) are in pristine condition. However on my most recent round (10/24/2023), the greens were horrible. Bare spots, bumpy, and the slowest I've experienced. Never got a bounce free roll. Sand was also sparse in some of the bunkers and packed in places. Only good news is that the fairways seemed to be in good shape. Normally, the price at the time of day that I played is $100. Even at half that cost, I'd look elsewhere until they fix the greens. Staff I talked to agreed and said playing the Links or Raven courses were a better bet. Definitely not my most enjoyable day on the course.

Dissatisfied again with course
Too much watering, soft everywhere, greens in poor shape, glad we had a deal or would really be griping! Years of this going on! Appearance not up to par in several areas. Beautiful location though!

Would not recommend Baytowne right now
I've played this course for a number of years, and I love the layout. The tees were good, the fairways were nice, BUT the greens were so poor. They had not been cut in days, the cups had not been changed in days, the bermuda greens were full of goose grass weeds, and were not really puttable.
Until they scrape the greens and replant them, I will be playing Links or Raven instead.
