Quintero Golf Club
About
Located in the desert just north of Phoenix and Scottsdale, the golf course at Quintero Golf Club is a challenge but with up to as many as nine tees per hole, it can accommodate golfers of all different abilities and handicaps. The rolling, desert terrain of the course features dramatic elevation changes for interesting play. The golf course's design has wide fairways and plenty of water hazards and sand bunkers. The most difficult hole is the par-5 8th hole, which plays uphill with three large bunkers alongside the right side of the lay-up area. Another difficult but noteworthy hole is Quintero Golf Club's third, which has a scenic lake to the left that sometimes tricks golfers into playing close to it with their tee shot for an easier second shot to the green.

Great course
The course was in great shape, although the greens were recently punched. Views are incredible. We played on a Saturday morning and the round was completed in 4 hours and 10 minutes. The course rewards straight hitters. This is a great value for the price
great views beautiful
greens just trimmed and sandfilled would have been nice to know.
Fastest greens I've played on in years! Great course!
The greens were lightening fast, but true.... Course was in excellent shape... understand the greens may be aerated soon though.... Really enjoyed our outing...
Quinterro Experience
First time to play this course and it was an outstanding experience. All of the Par 3's where elevated and there was an abundance of slope around the entire course. Bring extra balls if you are not on your game as this desert course is unforgiving.
One of the Best Courses in the Southwest
Rees Jones masterpiece. Played end of May and in excellent condition. Greens fast and true. This is a must play.
Beautiful vistas
Somewhat out-of-the-way but worthwhile at least once !
Pace of play is slow largely because there is a good distance between holes.
Fantastic conditions for late May and, really challenging, 'specially the speed of the greens.
Great, Except....
Just an awesome course, great conditions tee to green with the exception of the bunkers, bunkers are in terrible shape, fairway and green side bunkers all very shallow and filled with rocks. A blemish on an otherwise almost perfect course. I did see the green side bunker at 17 that had actual, real sand in it, so maybe they are beginning to redo them. They may have had others redone but this was the only one I noticed.
Other issue was the pace, 5 hour round, the marshal was more concerned about carts in the rough, the enforcing the pace of play. There should never be 2 holes open in front of any group, this was reported from course staff during the round, why not enforce the pace?
Other than the couple things above the course is always worth the drive.
Key to beating the slow pace is getting of early or late, course always seems to log jam with the middle of the day tee times.
Great round
Had a wonderful time. Course was in great shape, only issue was the sand in the bunkers. Completely different sand in multiple bunkers, I asked the cart guy and he explained that they are upgrading the sand. ...which I applaud. Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We were disappointed we did not see the cart girl through the front 9. We did see her sit and chat with the cook at the turn for about 25 minutes while we waited for the green to clear. She never moved the entire time, when we putted out we interrupted her conversation to purchase refreshments, she was still there when we drove away. A little bit nitpicky on my end, but we were thirsty and her ethic did not match her coworkers. We will be back.
Greatest in AZ
Greatest course I have played in AZ.....super plush...tight fairways, fair rough, and fastest greens anywhere! Hard to hold shots into greens, but it didn't matter. Wonderful staff one and all. Cart girl was around numerous times and very friendly. Definitely see the Troon influence here. First class operation from the second I got on the property. GO PLAY HERE!
Greens
As of the day I played, these are the best and fastest greens most people will ever play. Course in fantastic condition. Would like to see more people fix their own ball marks though, stop being lazy.
Great views, tough course, crazy fast greens
I live nearby in a golf community and try to play this course several times per season. Always remember how pretty the course is and difficult it can be if you don't hit the ball straight. My only complaint would be the speed/condition of the greens. They said prior to playing that they were running 13 and they actually seemed faster than that! I managed to hit many GIR's but found myself with 40-50-60'+ putts. Many of these putts rolled 10-15' past the cup if you didn't hit the center of the cup. Carts have speed restrictions on them due to the hills on the course and are very slow. From the clubhouse to the first tee and after 18 seems to take forever. Plan a lot of time to play with slow carts, lots of distance to cover and slow play that doesn't take much to back up. Beautiful course lots of wildlife, rabbits, roadrunners, rattlers, birds, etc. you name it and you will most likely will see it! Got to play this course once. Quintero please make your greens more user friendly and the golf experience would be a 10. I give the course a 10 and the greens a 4-5.
Great views and service
This is a course with some great desert golf holes. The only negative were the rock hard greens. For example - # 9 is a downhill par 3 and my ball bounced 20 feet in the air and off the back of the green.
Best course in az
Amazing course all around. Pretty difficult as the greens were the fastest I've ever played in AZ. The greens were very hard and required placement shots on the green. You can't attack the pin or you will be off. Wish there was a little more hold on the greens but they did run true. Fairways were the best I've played in the desert as well. Tough course for good golfers but if you aren't the best you are sure to enjoy the best course in the area. Awesome service from the time you arrive till you leave the property. It's an absolute must play
Stunning Views!
Quintero was an amazing course! Staff was very friendly and course was in great condition. Every hole was stunning and the views of the landscape was truly breathtaking. Pace of play was very good and there are numerous options for tee boxes. Initially it seemed as though they had tee times close together as we were pushed for the first nine holes, but it settled down after initial nine. I will play again and would not hesitate recommending this course to anyone.
Must visit golf course
We had a very enjoyable day. The views are extraordinary and the course is a challenge but very fair. We played the mixed silver/copper tees and they were perfect. Wives played the jade tees.
Quintero Review
I love this golf course. It is kept in great shape at all points of the course from tee box to collar of the greens. The greens are very fast and smooth. The only knock I have on this course is that no one fixes there pitch marks on the green. Bent grass must be repaired or you will have a bunch dead pitch marks all over the green and there was an unusually high number of them there. I would highly recommend this course to anyone. If they can get the price around 40 dollars this summer I will go play it twice a week. Come on Quintero lets have a great priced summer rate this year.
So glad you had a great day at Quintero! We are offering summer specials! You can buy a 10 pack of rounds for $595 and a 20 pack for $890. These rounds are good from 6.5.15- 8.27.15 Please call the golf shop for details.
A Truly Unique Golfing Experience
The course was awesome and well worth the 50+ minute drive from where we were staying in Scottsdale. It is secluded from any housing developments or other construction; it's a true desert course. The conditions are immaculate. The fairways are like carpets and the greens roll quite fast (the staff said they were at a 12, but I didnt find them to be unreasonably fast, so not sure whether that was right). The par 3s in particular are some of the most dramatic I've ever played, with significant elevation changes of which no pictures on the internet due justice. The fairways are pretty tight. If you're spraying your golf ball around, you wont enjoy this round. In fact, if you're over a 15 or 16 handicap, I dont really think this is the course for you. The isolated setting makes for an absolutely memorable round of golf (for me, in the top 10 I've ever played), and a sun-setting back 9 makes the heat of the the front 9 on an afternoon round worth it.
There are a number of quirky things about this place: the lack of a true clubhouse; the fact that the range is a long drive from the clubhouse as well as the first tee (so, in a hot place like Arizona, for example, someone looking to take refuge in cool a/c in between the range in the round is out of luck); that even if you have prepaid through the course website, you still need to go into the pro shop to pay taxes on the round (so why bother with prepay at all? No other courses I know of do it like this).
We were also frustrated with the bunkers, which have almost no sand in them. I'm usually a very solid player out of the sand, and it was nearly impossible to hit any type of clean sand shot from the green side bunkers, which felt more like covered concrete.
The worst part of the experience was the pretentiousness of the place. They are a former private club and still sort of act that way. We were greeted by super friendly staff in the parking lot. But the friendliness ended there. We arrived at the range at 1:15 for our 2:30 tee time, expecting to take our time and hit plenty of balls. First, the guy tending the range has us all pile together on a small portion of the range that is elevated from where the majority of places to hit are. He tells us that he is setting up the range for the next day (this is at 1:15pm the day before). Then, at 2pm, with 30 minutes left before our tee off time, he closes the range entirely. Are you kidding me? For the prices that Quintero charges, the customer should come first. It is not reasonable to close the range at 2pm to a group of 8 guys who paid a lot of money and drove a long way just to play the golf course. We didnt feel this type of treatment from any of the other courses we played on this trip (Southern Dunes, Gold Canyon, We-Ko-Pa).
Quintero Golf Club is truly a once-in-a-lifetime type of course that is worth the drive. In my personal opinion, given the prices they charge to play (which are comparable to the other elite but much more proximate courses to the scottsdale area), they need to work on the customer experience. But I will never forget that golf course. It's amazing.
Thanks for coming to play Quintero on your trip to AZ from New York. Thank you as well for spending time on this review. It is well thought out. We will look into the range set up on this day. We really appreciate you sending pictures. Please come join us at Quintero when you come back to AZ.
Another fun day!
Always enjoy my rounds at Quintero and today was no different. Course was in excellent shape for getting into mid spring. Rained a bit for 3 holes, but then cleared up enough for a good round. Got the chance after the round to enjoy an excellent cheeseburger cooked at the turn and watch a couple of groups from the new deck area behind #9, one of the prettiest par 3's in Arizona. Don't know when I'll get back, but I know it'll be another fun time when I do.
We will welcome you back whenever you have the time. Thank you for your positive comments. You had one of the few rainy days at Quintero!
Well worth the drive
We changed from another course while on our trip, after hearing it was a great experience. We heard it was really hard, but it is definitely playable. Greens were the fastest we encountered on our 4day trip, but would hold and were fun to putt. Sand was a little inconsistent, but the beauty of this course can not be beat. Some golfers do not like elevation changes, and the par 3s are all about that here. We found it challenging. Very beautiful par 5s, very challenging. Highly recommend this experience- not sure what the future is for Quintero, but very glad we played it.
Thanks for coming out to play Quintero, and thank you for your positive comments. We are glad you had a great day!
