No Cart or Water
Generally I love this course. But yesterday it was hot, very slow, and there was no cart service. Plus, the water jugs at the filling stations were bone dry. This isn’t usually an issue, but was tough to get through all 18 with these conditions.
Nice
Course has beautiful scenery. Had the morning tee time which was nice, 4 hour round and started off the back. No issues running into the front. Back is harder than the front. If you are going to be paired with randoms they will most likely be seniors and members. They are very nice and funny though, and some are pretty dang good. Greens are okay, better than a muni but give them 3 years after they are redone in May and open back up in October this year(2025). Tift eagle will take some time to set, but they should be really nice. Driving range is still nice with the renovations, better than some I’ve seen but definitely sandy and needing some more grass. Trackman to come so that’s pretty sweet. Bunker are phenomenal. Not super tight fairways but you can’t get away with too much. Price was a little more than I thought it should be but only because of all the renovations and older greens. But not awful for a weekend price compared to some of these other courses. I recommend playing it and will be back!
Beautiful Layout
This course was absolutely gorgeous. The fairways and bunkers were in tremendous condition. The greens look to be a bit dated, but I did find out they are replacing them this coming summer. The staff was extremely helpful and the local members were very inviting. I will definitely play this course again if I visit the Jacksonville area.
Greens were awful, otherwise a nice course
I haven't played here for a couple of years. Prices really escalated compared to courses closer to my home locally. Last week prices were better. Not sure why. But I wondered if it was reduced because of conditions? Never seen greens like this...rock hard, grass appeared dead everywhere. Pace of play was slow, no marshals. I would go back at this price when greens improve. It is a very nice layout and is fun to play.
Good course but potential for better
Good layout but pace of play poor- painfully slow due to 2-4 groups ahead- several groups of 2’s and 3’s. Tee time was 1150- finished at 435pm-5.5 hours later!! For the price, no Marshall showed up to move things along, cart girl seen once , ball/ club washers on cart no water. Starter ok but no real organization- allowed a walkon he knew to interject in front of us 4 , to do a ‘quick 9’. Greens under construction May 1- now you tell us. Jeez. Greens bumpy and hard. Terrible end to each hole. Fairways ok for the season. Sorry, but not worth the money- TG we had a hot deal. Golf course has tremendous potential but needs more work and time .
Awesome staff awesome course
The course was really good layout. The staff was awesome, but the pace of play was slow, but I would definitely go back again.
Nice course terrible greens
Layout is great , fun to play. Unfortunately was slow. Some single was allowed to jump in front of us to play a ‘quick 9’. Starter told him he couldn’t but he did anyways. Greens were awful. Hard and Burned out. Otherwise the course is in pretty good shape for end of winter.
Updating course
Play course every year for over ten years this is the worst condition I have experienced. Tees in below average condition, fairways burnt out and bear in areas, very dry. Supposed to replace greens for next year season and currently letting them go.
Course Condition pretty bad
First, we had a 9:49 T-time and didn't tee off for more than 1/2 hour later. Overheard starter say that they were trying to squeeze in players without a tee time which caused the delay.
I know Florida hasn't had a lot of rain lately but in spite of that the course is in tough shape especially the greens. This was not worth what we paid there to play.
Course needs lots of maintenance and our foursome would not recommend playing this course.
Slow Play
It took us 3 hours to play 9 holes and we left. No ranger and staff didn’t seem to care. Nice course but we would not have been able to finish before dark.
Nice course but pace of play was horrid
The front 9 took 2:45, with nobody from the course doing anything about pace of play. When I asked about it after the round, a staff member told me management is unwilling to do anything about it for fear of a bad review. The course is difficult, with quick greens, and average players need to move to realistic tees to have a chance, but no one encourages that, and so the course backs up. On the back 9 we decided to skip forward on found that the group two in front of us was more than two holes behind. Although I find the course quite nice, I don’t think I will go back for the price I paid.
Don’t be fooled
Booked this course online after researching several courses in the Jacksonville area to play while I was in town for The Players. My online rate was $184 which I don’t mind for a good course. The layout was pretty cool pretty standard for a Florida course. The per the practice facilities were subpar. The driving range had almost no grass on it the chipping area was almost nonexistent and the putting green was half dead half overgrown with some sort of grass, other than Bermuda. I was charged $10 for range balls after paying $184 Green fee. Was a little nervous looking at the practice the facilities, but thought give it a shot. You don’t know what’s gonna happen. The tea boxes were not great but about average for any other course. They were flat level a little bit long and it looks like partially over seeded and partially original Bermuda. The fairways are about the same they were a little rough, there wasn’t much difference between The rough in the fairway in many places. The greens were Bermuda grass which I usually liked but there was some other grass growing in them in large circles all over the place that created little literal nouns in the green. You could not cut through them because they would drastically knock your ball of course but they were everywhere. Almost like speed bumps. The greens are also hard as a rock, and would not hold any type of shot could not get a chip to spin or stop for anything. I would say the greens are almost unplayable. The palace of play was atrocious a little over 4 1/2 hours and backed up two groups by the third hole never saw Marshall or no one came out to address. I can tell you that I’ve played a lot of courses all over the country and it’s embarrassing that they’re charging that much to play their “country club“. Don’t be fooled by the positive reviews on here. There’s obviously some manipulating of reviews because this course was a 2 at best and definitely not worth the money. Never been more disappointed in any golf course anywhere in the country that I’ve played in the last 20 years.
Disappointed
Have played here every year for many years and always my favorite course in the area. This year lots of construction, completely redoing the driving range. All play starting off the tenth tee, fairways very dry and sparce grass in many areas. Advised their will be all new greens for next season at this time, current greens not in condition they have been in prior years.
St Johns
Really liked the layout. Conditions were decent. Greens look patchy but rolled really nice. Had rained in the morning so carts were on path only but the course was firm and there wasn’t much standing water. I’d play there again
