Los Verdes Golf Course

Couldn’t see the green grass on the fairway. Most of fairway was burned out.

The greens also have a fungus.

The traps were as hard as rock.

There was no maintenance at all.

Felt rushed the whole round and waited each hole too. Place was over booked. Fairways were dry and spotty. For a course overlooking the ocean, course could have been better. Over rated. I don’t think I would bother playing there again.

I’ve never felt so disrespected and humiliated at a golf course as I did at Palos Verdes Golf Club. A group of us came to enjoy a day of golf, only to be publicly harassed by the assistant manager—a Japanese man whose behavior was nothing short of aggressive, unprofessional, and discriminatory.

We were already informed of the foursome rule at the pro shop and followed instructions without issue—one of our players joined a different group as requested. But shockingly, that wasn’t enough for this assistant manager. He followed us to the first tee and began yelling at us repeatedly in front of everyone, despite us having already resolved the situation. He spoke to us as if we were criminals, not paying guests.

Even worse, he told the team behind us to “report” us if anything changed—like we were under surveillance. The entire situation felt targeted and racially motivated. We were treated with blatant disrespect and hostility for absolutely no reason.

This place clearly tolerates toxic behavior from its staff, and I will never step foot here again. If you’re looking for a place that values decency, professionalism, or basic human respect—stay far away from Palos Verdes Golf Club.

I have played Los Verdes for over 50 years, actually learned how to play on it. Yesterday when I played I was really worried about the course. the fairways are dried out, tee boxes have brown spots and the greens, let me tell you, they have what appears to be a fungus growing on almost all of them and in for some of the spots the green is dying off. Los Verdes has some of the most scenic panoramic ocean views of any course, and the course layout wonderful but the poor condition of the tee boxes, fairways and the greens is actually starting to bring the course to below par...

The good: course was in great shape, especially the greens (except a few greenside bunkers where I got lies on hard pan with no sand). Fun layout and great views. The bar/grill, pro shop, and locker rooms/bathrooms were nicer than other munis and the starter was helpful.

The bad: round took 5 hours (there was a group 3-4 groups ahead of us that was 2 holes behind pace apparently) and the aforementioned sand-less bunkers. Other than that a very nice experience.

Don't let the location fool you. It's still a county course with county employees. The driving range is horrible, the ball dispenser wasn't working on that day, the carts are as old as the course. There are tee boxes that need serious work, fairways are patchy, burnt, weeds growing and people who play there don't rake the bunkers if you can call them bunkers. Pace of play minimum 5hrs. Too many high handicap walkers. They shouldn't allow anyone to walk before 9am. I played there as a favor to my buddy but we can all do better!!!

Staff was friendly but the pace of play was way too slow.

We had to wait for at least 1 sometimes 2 groups on just about every hole.

We tee offed 2:10 but only got yo play 16 holes.

Fairways are in horrible condition. Lots of bare spots and covered in spider grass. This used to be a great course to play. I will now look elsewhere.

We had an early tee time (6:00) so it was cold and a little windy. This course is very slopy and the greens were very fast on the front but slower on the back. Everything was in good condition with the exception of a handful of fairways which were bare.

Overall, a great experience on a course I remember to be quite challenging. Can't wait to play again.

This is a great challenging course. Play the hills, and you’ll be fine.

Considering it’s a public course, it’s hard to really complain about much. But if I were to provide constructive feedback, I would say the following. More weeds than grass on the fairways. There’s always something w the greens. Either they are not cut or they are unevenly cut. Need to be ok with moving the balls out of weeds, tree roots, rocks, etc. Great views, but after awhile, you will be more focused on why there is very little real grass on the course. Fun and challenging course.
