this cour has wide fairways
SN golf course was fun to play wide open faairways, good bunkers and very nice greens. housing development around the course is not completed and has a long way to go.
Great Track
I recently moved to the area and did not know anything about this course. I found it on Golf Now. It was a great price so I booked a tee time. The staff treated me very well. I got right out. The conditions of the course were fantastic. It was as perfect a golf experience as you could have. I cant wait to go back and play again.
Worst course I've played in SW FL
Right let's start with price. I paid $35 on a nearly deserted hot August afternoon. In the past 4 weeks I have played over 15 courses in this area all for less $. Of all those courses, this was the worst experience and worst value for money.
The course itself is set in a flat, barren wasteland in an undeveloped "community", so aesthetically awful to look at. An odd house being built here and there, so drills and jack-hammers making noise. Don't let the photos on their website fool you. Its condition was, in my opinion, poor - scruffy fairways and bunkers and low/little water in the man-made lakes. Greens were also scruffy and bumpy and not particularly true. The round took nearly 4 and a half hours because, even though the course was near deserted, a 4 ball followed by a 3 ball decided they would not wave through anyone playing faster. Apparently their 4 hrs 14 mins guidelines actually mean that everyone has to take at least that length of time. We are quick players used to getting round in 3 hrs, so, tough.
Now for the "facilities". The carts provided don't have ice boxes or towels. In the middle of summer, you might therefore expect to be able to shower after your round. Not a chance. There are single stall lavatories, one for men and one for women.
To top it all, the guy behind the counter who took my money was just plain rude. Read a few more reviews of this place and you'll get the picture.
To put all this in perspective, a course I played near Naples provides ice boxes and towels, a free bottle of water, iced scented towels after the 9th hole and a course and facilities in immaculate condition. And via GolfNow I paid $19 - yes nineteen. Another 4 miles away (similar without the scented towels) I played for $16.
Sarasota looks to me like it's on its knees. You would think they would bend over backwards to provide a positive, friendly, experience so folk go away and rave about it. Not in my case. Personally I wouldn't go near the place again even if they paid me.
Wonderful course
We were here on vacation and golf.now had given the course a good rating. They weren't wrong. We love the course and were lucky to be paired up with 2 locals. My husband even had a Hole in One on #4. That really made it special. The layout was interesting and there was plenty of water and lots of traps but they didn't come into play as much as the water. Can't walk the course as there is a lot of nature preserve land. Largest area course we've ever played. Greens were undulating and lightning fast. Can't wait to play it again. No bar yet so saved a lot of money on free drinks!
course review
The tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in very good shape. The greens were fast but fair. The fairways are very wide and forgiving. The rough is very well manicured and cut low.
All In Front of You
One of my favorite courses to play. Like playing through a wildlife sanctuary. Recent construction and cutting of vegetation around the ponds and lakes has spoiled some of its natural aesthetics in my opinion. Course is very playable and a good test for low handicappers from the tips. Good staff. Great range and practice area. No real 19th hole to speak of.
Great Course for the Value
Wow, what an amazing course for the money. We drove about an hour and a half to play this course and would make that drive again in a heartbeat. The staff was friendly, easy check in, range balls included, as well as a small cooler for drinks.
The course was in great shape and is spread out over a large plot of land. It is scenic and quite.
Only down side was no bar/lunch. They have drinks in the clubhouse cooler, but no real food to speak of other then snacks.
We will definitely be back to play Sarasota National!!
Beautiful and wide open
A lot of wind due to not many trees. But this for sure is one if the best courses around.
Gentlemen there let me play though
Played 18 great holes in two and a half hours because four groups let me play through. Apparently there are gentlemen at Sarasota National.
Very cool.
Excellent condition and greens
Love golfing here, nice and challenging but greens are always in excellent condition
Top notch course
Staff is great from bag drop area to desk. Clubhouse smallish but has all you need. Practice area is great. Plenty of water and ice available. Course layout linkish with medium to large greens. Conditions is would rate as great, never had a bad lie in the fairway. Greens recovering form airation and medium speed, in a couple of weeks should be great. Play this one.
Great layout
Course was in great shape. Greens were sandy but still on the quick side. Nice driving range. Wide fairways, nice greens, lots of interesting holes, a lot of fun to play. Club manager not very friendly. Will play again!
Great golf course
Course was in good shape, the greens needed to be watered, were sandy and still had the holes in it from being aerated.
Outstanding course
I was part of a foursome who played this course this past weekend. It was absolutely amazing. The course has recently underwent aerofication however, the course conditions were still superb. The pace of play was very good and the facilities are very nice. I highly recommended this course to anyone considering it.
great course
very challenging. not too long. greens were between overseed and Bermuda, so a little bumpy so downgraded to good.
In outstanding condition
River Strand, University Park and Sarasota National are the best courses in the Sarasota/Manatee area that the public can play. This course is in top shape. Greens fast and true. Fairways lush and well maintained. Greens are sloped, so stay below the hole or a three putt is in your immediate future.
Disappointed in the current condition
I played this course almost exactly a year ago, before WCI took over and renovated the course. Loved it then, the track was in excellent condition and was a very pretty course that was fair but challenging. When my Saturday group decided to play it from our reciprocal list this year I was excited to get to play there again. It's a nice clubhouse and an OK practice area. When we teed off I could see that a lot of the shrubs and trees have been removed since last year, I assume to make room for all the housing to be built. The course is clearly not in as good condition as last year. The greens are in average to below average condition with some visible craters filled with white sand. We all had some bumpy putts. Fairways are average. All the vegetation that has been removed makes for a very open and plain look. Pace of play was right on the 4:14 time they hope for and the ranger was visible and active during our round, so that was nice. I was hoping for the same excellent golfing experience I had last year, but it was not to be this time. Spoke with my group about how they liked the course and the theme everyone had was "disappointed". Currently, this is nowhere near the 4.5 stars listed on golfnow. There are MANY better options in the area for the same or less $$.
Great course!
The course was great, the practice facilities were in very good condition, staff is very friendly.
Must Play
This is a great course and is a must play when in SW Florida. It is in fantastic shape. It is as good or better than the Disney courses. Especially the greens. It is the best maintained course I have played in Florida. Summer golf in SW Florida is the best. You cannot beat the rates and course conditions.
What a ridiculous review. Barren wasteland? The course is a wild marsh with the course weaving through it. It's one of the best conditioned courses in all of Sarasota. If $35 is too much to pay for a round at Sarasota National because they don't give you ice and a towel, then you need a reality check.
