fun course to play. nice layout. wide fairway but tough greens.
This course can provide a challenge for any level of golfer. Course is maintain at a high level. Great practice facilities. One of my favorite to play.
ASWAYS A TREAT.
GOOD TO SEE LOTS OF WORK GOING ON IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND THE COURSE.
GLAD SOMEONE IS GOING TO MAKE A GO OF IT!!
Course in great shape
My son and I played on a Sunday at 7:30. We were originally placed with another twosome but when I asked if we could play alone I was told we could. There was only 1 other twosome there at the time. We played in 3 hrs and 10 min and the course was in excellent shape. The work done over the summer has improved the course greatly from my last visit in 2012. My son enjoyed seeing the gators as was, his first golfing trip to Fla.
Course improving in playability with fast undulating greens.
I've played this course several times and the new management has improved the course conditions as well as cleaned up the marsh areas. This course is a very good value for the money. I love the track.
the course was challenging
WCI TURN THIS COURSE AROUND AND ARE NOW PRISTINE..
nice track
Nice big fairways course is in great shape, tiff eagle greens are very nice to putt on, we were a twosome and 3 groups let us play through, super great value for the money
Greens were in great shape.
Couse had improved since the last time I played there. Will play again soon.
See below.
The staff from driving up till loading out was excellent. The fairways and greens were in great shape. Because of weather, cart path only, they couldn't help that. Looking forward to playing there again.
can't expect much more.
RAIN IN TORRENTS AS WE MADE THE TURN JUST
DROVE TO THE PARKING LOT AND LEFT THE COURSE.
Very long track
If you like a challenge from the tips, this is a great course that is very much so user friendly for a 7400 yard monster. The greens are very fast and 75% of the holes are PGA style long. I am about a 15 handicap whose strength is driving (@ 300 yard average) so this course was hard but a lot of fun. The elevation changes are great, unlike many Florida courses, and the ball runs on all parts of the course. If you are into a solid challenge, this is the course to play.
Continues to be one of my favorite courses
Improvements are ongoing and course continues to improve. In the three years I've been coming to Venice I always find Sarasota National a pleasure to play. The layout is challenging but fair and the greens are always in great shape.
Great shape! Awesome
We played last (2012) year, course was not the best shape.
Played 8.27.13 "Wow-Outstanding" conditions. I tdrove out of town family to play. It was a hit, they loved it.
Great job!!!! Its worth the drive from Bradenton...
Thank you,
Lloyd
Good course, wide open, great greens
First I would like to mention that we used to play this course frequently after it opened and not so much the past 2 years. This was our second visit since 2011 (the first one we walked away due to unfriendly desk personal).
Pros: Sarasota National has fantastic greens, great undulation, fast speed and true roll (which is rare in our area). Furthermore its the longest course playing 7350 from the tips, so therefore for me a great test of my game. The course offers several tee boxes great for any level of golfer, even women. The fairways are currently also in great condition and the bunkers are filled with new sand, which makes them a pleasure to play. Considering the late rain, it was cart path only and wet, but that's not a course problem.
Cons: First and foremost often unfriendly behind the desk. This is a complaint I heard often from people I sent there, friends that played there and now often mentioned in other reviews on the net (just google it). This is a no go for a place that looks for people paying and playing there. Personally I also don't like the driving range as the floaters don't fly, you have no idea where to hit the ball and the practice green that is way too much sloped as you can't find a flat putt.
Recently they also cut back the vegetation 20 feet each side of the holes, which some people might like but I rather prefer green vegetation than mud and brown dead weeds/grass.
In all, a good place to play, especially if you never played it.
Fantastic links course
This is one of the best golf courses around. Perfect conditions, beautiful surroundings and a great deal through GolfNow! Can't wait to go back. Loved it!
Best Value Ever!!
Booked a twosome for myself and my recently turned 13 yr old son. Was expecting to pay $70 at the course. The courses policy offseason is that Juniors play free, so we got 2-18 hole rounds with Cart and Practice balls on a great course for a total of $35.00!!!
Greens had been aerated about 4 weeks ago and had filled in nicely, but playing partners said they were not playing at their fastest yet.
We played from the Silver Tees (White equivalent about 6,000 yards). Very wide fairways and rough essentially is not existent compared to the 3-4 inches we have in Wisconsin. Lots of sand in play. The course winds through a marsh/lake environment, but it only comes into play on risky or bad shots.
All of the staff were professional and pleasant. Cups, Ice and Water were available at the clubhouse and after 5 on the front. The back did not have the dispenser, but a water jug was available, but it didn't taste as good as the filtered water.
They do not have a grill/restaurant, but have premade cheeseburgers in the snack refrigerator for $ 3.50. A microwave is there along with condiments. One minute later you have a nice cheeseburger at the turn.
I plan to play here again next week as I can't think of having a better experience anywhere else.
Site lines improved-- greens perfect,fast-- looks great
Having played almost 50 times over last 2 1/2 years, the course never looked better. The sand traps have been improved and now have super sand but more difficult.. The brush have been moved back about 8 yards from the hazard line and the course looks so different..
The greens are spectacular and fast. Free range balls and good practice areas.
Course made a 180 degree turn around under WCI ownership; Links-style; lots of wildlife, challenging greens in perfect condition; open off the tee
Very challenging around the greens, Perfect sand and green surface conditions. Course drains well for summer play. Average and better than average players will enjoy this course. Not for beginners, Therefore, not crowded so play moves smoothly. Practice range is a plus.
Ok course for the money - staff is terrible!
Played today for the first time. I kept hearing this was such a better course than others in the Venice/Englewood area. I was disappointed in the conditions around the course. Even the grounds crew was oblivious to the fact we were putting, firing up their carts all around us, which you would never experience at one of the more upscale courses in the area. Good luck getting any service from the golf cart crew...you aren't even permitted to take the cart out to your car...useless. For a course that could clearly use new members or at the very least patrons, I'm surprised at the service.
This course has great features. I enjoyed the free driving range.
This course is fair and challenging. You will enjoy this course no matter what your handicap is.
