The Golf Club at South Hampton was designed to give every golfer appropriate risk-and-reward opportunities that supply both encouragement to beginners and challenges for more advanced players. The slope and contour of the course’s landscape is its trademark with strategic mounding and over 60 contoured bunkers that emphasize the terrain’s natural undulations. The course features rolling fairways and massive greens. There are also sixteen large lakes that come into play throughout. The signature hole is the tremendous par-5, 17th, which is a scenic hole that features a lake, fairway bunkers, and a breaking green. Although the course is a challenge, there are six sets of tees to accommodate all skill levels.

Customer service and greens

Greens are in awful shape- spray painted green and full of sand, not really puttable

Bad golf cart- no brakes- asked for replacement cart- and they never brought one out - dangerous

Lazy golf cart cleaner- asked for replacement cart at the beginning-said that’s all they had

No beverage cart service -

No gps- golf carts are from the 1990s

Will probably not play here again- too bad- with some different management, this would be a great course because the layout is great, quiet and has peaceful surroundings…

Worst greens

These greens were the absolute worst I’ve seen in decades. Seems they are destroyed by fungus. They are so bad that a few holes have only a few options for pin spots as there is no grass anywhere else.

The rest of the course is poorly maintained also. It appears that they are just not spending the needed budget on course maintenance.

Do not pay to play this course until you confirm that they have grass on the greens.

Stopped playing here two years ago because…

… of the lousy conditions. And they had been lousy for two years before that as noted in the below comments. I joined Stillwater a year ago. It was the best decision I have made in Golf.

Sunday slammer

I always love the course but the cart girl wasn’t especially pleasant to talk with. A smile and a good attitude speaks volumes of an organization. I’d make sure that the staff is very clear that the golfers are the only reason they have a job.

Just wrong!

They have lost their greens and are still charging full price. They are not even telling the public about the damage.

4 hours and 10 minutes to play 13 holes.. Just a horrible experience all the way around including the apathetic response when I told the person in the pro shop.

I was told they are going to change out the greens April 2026. Don't waste your money or time until they are done!!!

Always fun but horrible conditions

I really like playing this course, but over the past year or so, greens are in horrible shape. And, the rest of the course needs some love. Not alot of grass in the fairways. I hope someone of importance reads this and addresses. Thanks

Total Scam

It should be absolutely criminal this place charges what it does with the course conditions being so poor. The greens missing patches of grass, tee boxes in poor shape. The price they charge is what a QUALITY and reputable course that TAKES CARE of its course and puts money into it charges. This is not that course. I will never step foot on this course again until the ones controlling all that profit decide to dump money into it and get it back to its former glory. Also they sell tee times after 5 o clock and “close at 7” for 18 holes but their cart guys start picking up flags well before 7. Absolutely embarrassing course and again, it should be CRIMINAL they charge what they do. HYDE PARK is a better course and is half the price on a typical day. HYDE PARK guys.

They’ve lost the course

I’ve watched as this course has steadily declined over the last 3 years. Where’s the pride? Heck! Where is the ground crew? Pro shop staff are nice but are left helpless to defend the conditions. It’s really sad because Southampton used to be a viable option on 210. Most greens on the front resemble a spray painted sandlot. Several fairways are in poor shape and bunkers are inconsistent. I’ve heard they’re planning a refresh in 2026. In the meantime, they should consider charging a rate that is commensurate with the conditions.

Unfortunately disappointed

I hate to provide a poor review as I have played this course several times in the past and enjoyed it. The greens are HORRIBLE, several are 50% grass, too many bumps big enough to knock a put 6" off its line. The pace of play was unacceptable, we were waiting an extended period of time on every tee box to the point we were given a 9 hole raincheck as it took over 3 hours to play the front 9. The fairways and tee boxes were in pretty good condition. There were several holes however that had numerous areas of plain dirt/sand where the 1st cut of rough should have been, some from excessive cart use, others from either disease or maintenance issues. Staff was courteous and nice enough to issue the raincheck.

Good condition with a nod to improvements in progress

Good golf course with actual grass on the fairways ( stay in the middle) not much water to hamper your shots unless you go way left or right- that’s on you! Sand bunkers increase as you get on back 9 but that dictates accuracy. The greens are under progress with fertilizer and bug killer- mite’s infestation earlier- greens hold your shot and no false fronts. We were matched up with two guys- one local and one from PA- very nice players. In and out of bunkers- sand fine shape. Putting was a little dicey on back 9 as grass longer and slower, but we adjusted. Starter Jeff very friendly and informative, Gary the Marshall was friendly and available- no issues with pace of play at all! Did 18 in 4 hours and 5-10 min. Perfect! I was happy enuf with a 39 on the front (3 birdies and two pars) from the forward tees, and 46 on the back including an 8 on 15. Hubby just over 90.

What a great day of golf to finish our visit to Florida!

The course will only get better in the next month or two! More water!!

Plus, New carts with GPS coming in May will be a welcome addition.

Thanks again SH
