Mayfair Country Club
About
Opened in 1922, Mayfair Country Club is one of the oldest golf courses in Florida and it's still the only course in the historic city of Sanford. Over the years, it has hosted a number of famous players including Sam Snead and Arnold Palmer. The layout is wide open with a traditional design that is player friendly enough to appeal to novices and experienced golfers alike. Like most older course designs, the fairways are wide but the approaches aren't very forgiving. Water hazards come into play on over half of the holes and you might be surprised by a few subtle but tricky elevation changes. Mayfair Country Club is not a formidable test by any means, but there are a few challenging holes that will make you think.

It’s the Great new Mayfair!
I have not played Mayfair in years and was pleasantly surprised at all the changes. You can tell that Sanford has committed to bringing this course back to its best. I have always loved the layout anyway but years back it was not a place to play unless you wanted an inexpensive alternative with fair conditions. I have to say that from tee to green, it’s an all new experience. All greens except for 12th, were in excellent condition, tee boxes and fairways were fine, new cart paths were nice addition. I hope that they keep going in the new direction to give us a new destination course to play in this area!
Nice course
I have played Mayfair many times but this time the course was in the best condition that its been since I started playing it. The greens were excellent and the fairways were very good. And enjoyable course to play.
I like this course
I play here a few times a year...cost of gas and tolls makes other courses cheaper........newly paved cart paths and new carts are nice...fairly easy course with some water to carry...mostly straight with maybe one dog leg...if you are nearby certainly worth playing
Mediocre
First time playing and just nothing really jumped off the page at you. There were a couple cool holes but the rest were average at best. Fairways were in pretty good shape and 3 or 4 greens were in really bad shape. All in all it’s a mediocre old Florida muni. No water on the course and the guy in the pro shop was kind of a douche. Definitely not worth $50.
I like this course
I play here several times a year,,,,if it weren't for the cost of gas and tolls would probably play more. This is an olde school course but with wider fairways than some,,,newly paved partial cart paths are nice and so are the realitively new carts,,,still working out of a trailer awaiting the new building but that doesn't affect the golf...some water to carry but generally not that difficult of a course and the greens were in good shape
Enjoyable outing
Was an all around enjoyable golf day. From the friendly staff to decent course conditions to a good pace of play, I’m looking forward to coming back to play this course again.
Fun to Play
This course is a good value for the money if you go later in the day. The conditions are about average, and the course is fun, but not at full price.
Decent course
The course is better than it looks and more challenging than it looks. The layout does require some thinking before pulling the shot. Will play again.
The conditions are decent.
Donald Ross classic
Was really looking forward to playing this Donald Ross course. Was not disappointed!! Staff here are real friendly and very proud of their courses heritage. Had a great chat with the bagman who could have talked all day about the history and which of the greats tee’d it up here in the 1950’s
They say Ross’s courses offer easy bogeys but tough pars and this is no different - not a long course but some strategically placed overhanging trees make for tough choices off tees or shot shaping for approaches. Par 4 12th hole is standout with a long approach over water needed to reach the green. Also loved the 4th hole which needs an accurate tee shot to avoid having a tree block approach shot.
Loved my day here and look forward to returning - certainly worth a visit
Better than it looks
The course is indeed fun to play. It is more challenging than it looks. The condition is not bad, greens are very good. Will play again
Challenging than it looks
The course condition is fair, greens have no defects, just a bit slow, some fairways are in very good condition while some others may need some more care. The course is definitely more challenging than it looks, it was fun to play it. I would give it one more star if the greens can be rolled faster.
