Monarch Golf Club at Royal Highlands
About
Monarch Golf Club at Royal Highlands is carved from gently rolling hills located just outside of Orlando in the city of Leesburg. Although the wide fairways are relatively flat, the golf course's terrain provides the greens with gentle undulation. Sparkling lakes provide scenery while also coming into play as water hazards on nine holes. There are also doglegs and bunkers throughout to provide the golf course with even more challenges. Much of the land that the club occupies has been preserved as a wetlands area, offering golfers a glimpse of native wildlife. In addition to its natural beauty, Monarch Golf Club at Royal Highlands is popular due to its accessible layout that accommodates both low and high handicap players.

A good day at Monarch
Made our reservation via Golf Now at the very last minute, literally 5 min. before tee time. Went off without a hitch. Friendly guy in the pro-shop set us up with a smile. It was a cold morning, threatening rain, so we didn't expect much traffic but ran into a slow group on the second hole. They graciously let us through and it was clear sailing from there. Completed round in 3.5 hours. Good players will find this course easy, I think. Don't be afraid of the blue tees. We played the golds, which were perfect for our group. Generally a very nice track. I recommend it as one to visit in the are.
Nice course
Nice course, it was in good shape, greens rolled true.We will play again.
Great golf course
Excellent golf course, great golfer all around, very friendly staff.
Nice place
Good course in pretty good condition. Better than most courses in same price range. Senior community and course is 6000 yards from back tee but is still a good challenge. Will go back.
Found an alligator in the sand.
This course was my favorite! It wasn't just because the course was in such great condition (which it was) but also due to the wildlife on and around the course. First, I had very large cranes singing to me and then I was able to see an alligator! I found myself in the sand on one of the holes, as I approached my ball, I noticed an alligator in the sand. He or she wasn't too large, it had to of been between 5-7 feet but very skinny. As soon as I got a few nice photographs of the gator, he or she RACED away. It was very cool. This course is very fun and there is a lot to look at. It is definitely taken care of very well.
Quick play despite a lot of players
My wife and I played Monarch as part of a visit to Royal Highlands. The golf course is one of the major attractions of the 55+ community, which includes pools, community centers, tennis courts, etc., including a nice softball facility. The course is short. With four sets of tees (black-gold-white-green), the closest tees made the round very successful for my wife. We finished our round in just under four hours with a bunch of foursomes playing the "tips" in front of us. The driving range was a little rough; the practice putting green was good. There was no other practice facility that I could see. The staff was friendly and the restaurant served us a nice lunch. The pro shop was minimal. They were having computer issues when we arrived. The course conditions were good and the greens were good. Expect conditions you might find at an excellent municipal golf course. I liked the back nine better -- it was longer, had rolling terrain and looked better. There is some water, but the levels were very low when we played. You will see gators and wildlife. I think you can find better public rates than we paid, but we were on a schedule and just wanted to review the community.
fun course
The greens were in great shape and the fairways were well maintained. Only problem was we were started on #10 and were behind people the entire round; looking back, we saw no one on #1 or the first several holes. But everyone moved at a good pace so it wasn't a real problem.
Great golf
Course was in great shape but play time was a lil slow but could have been cause of the shotgun start but all together had a great time and look forward to play again soon
Great course- nice people
PLayed this course with two locals...got nice tips, saved strokes...a pretty open track, houses are not in play...nice surroundings...course is in great shape, excellent greens, fairways are green and lush...we played the shot gun affair which ensures your round will be fast..truly enjoyed it...atmosphere in the clubhouse was fine....a lot of oldest enjoying life...a great sight...
Hail the Monarch
The course was in great shape particularly the greens. Fairways were well manicured and they were not real narrow but a stray shot could still find trees, waste areas or water. The rough still had enough grass that you could hit a ball from it as compared to some courses that have more dirt than grass if you miss the fairway. Will certainly play this one again.
Nice Course
The course is nice but not long or tough enough for low handicappers. It would be very good for all other golfers. People at the course were very nice and helpful.
Fun Course
This is a Fun Course that played in under 4 hours. This is a fairly short course but there are some fun water carries like the 6th. hole. The greens putt well and were in good shape for this time of the year. There are some OB areas that I would recommend just taking a drop (gators in ponds).
Must play this one again
First time playing this one found it to be surprisingly pleasant round was paired with a great guy(his first also). Greens are in great shape fairways cared for. This was great value for the $15 @ 8:30a, also got to start was done before 12a. Had good round in the 10-15mph wind and a little cool got good carry off drive.
Monarch at Royal Highlands
Nice course, wide open with well placed bunkers so provides a decent challenge, would definitely play again
Similar to Tampa Bay Golf & CC & Plantations @ Leesburg Cranes Roost course.
12:44 tee time. Great hot deal price. Teamed up w/ nice 3-some that bought the other hot deal spots. Nice clubhouse & Pro shop that's well stocked w/ merchandise. Course is short, 6000 yds from back tees, but challenging w/ some unique & picturesque holes. Tee boxes & fairways plush. Roughs low so errant shots can be spotted quickly. Small to medium sized elevated greens that roll true but inconsistent w/ speed, ranging from mostly medium paced to slow paced. Will play again.
Interesting layout
Over all the course is in fairly good condition ,I think it is very value for the money.
Back 9 greens were in better condition than front.
Fairway grass was mowed very short. The greens on the front 9 had bad spots with other grasses growing on them and bare spots. They are usually in much better condition.
Way too short. Not what I expected at all.
Way too short. Not what I expected at all. Not busy though. A 65+ course. Very basic. I would not play again. Course needed some water.
A bit on the easy side but interesting questions.
I play numerous moderate priced courses in the Clermont/Leesburg area of Florida and this course is better maintained than all others I have played.
