Great course and value. This was a business round and everything worked out very well. Staff was great and conditions were very good!!
Great course and value. This was a business round and everything worked out very well. Staff was great and conditions were very good!!
Crazy layout, beautiful views.
Tough course, with quick putts(very few straight putts). Greens where nice, fairways where soft and a few dead spots. If you aren't hitting it down the middle this course offers very little forgiveness for the errant shot. Some landing areas are 25 yards across. When you do score though you have a sense of accomplishment. Great course for visitors to enjoy the topography and views is San Jose.
Most picturesque and challenging course in the area.
The first things I value in a course are its layout and playing conditions. Whereas the typical course has one or two signature holes, the kind you remember and look forward to playing again, The Ranch is loaded with them. And both the fairways and greens are in sterling condition. But between shots I also like to enjoy some scenery. Some fine golf courses like those in Palm Springs and Las Vegas have outstanding layouts but are also stifled by real estate developments. The courses I remember most fondly--Aviara or Kapalua or The Challenge at Manele or the links courses in Ireland and Scotland--are the kind where I kept reaching for my camera. The Ranch, with its hills and trees and magnificent vista of San Jose's skyline, invites you to put a camera in your bag. No golfer worth his (or her) salt can stand on the elevated 10th tee and not want to take a picture. I did, with Jerry Rice in the foreground.
Great course, very good condition, EXTREMELY slow that day
loved the course, always a challenge. The course was in very good condition. the greens were fast and very tricky. It is target golf requiring some reach.
But for some reason it was very very slow yesterday, the slowest game I have played in years. It isn't always that way at this course.
have to be on top of your game
beautiful and fun course, but you get penalized for most of the bad shots.
Great Value
For the south bay, this is a fantastic deal. I typically pay less than $70 to play this course.
Great views of San Jose
OK, let's get real. This course is not for wimps or pretenders. Load up on balls and bring your "A" game cause you're in for one awesome ride. This is "mountain" golf at its best. Great condition and intimidating elevation changes. Love it !!
Tough, not always fair.
I really love playing here. It's very challenging and generally "fair" in the sense that if you don't get overly aggressive you can be rewarded with a decent round in beautiful surroundings. Aggression is NOT rewarded here! My only, and ongoing concern is the condition of greenside bunkers. They are almost all hard and thin, making solid shots from them an art that is rarely practiced. Fix that and this is a 5 star experience.
Great views from this up/downhill course.
As a bogie golfer, I lost a lot of balls, but had fun doing it. Playing here more than once would definitely improve my score (and reduce lost balls) as there are plenty of blind shots.
This course is good but too hard for me.
This course is challenging and fun. Try you can feel it.
Views of San Jose are excellent.
It's a beautiful course but very challenging. The canyons and ditches will swallow your ball if you're not on your game.
very tough and challenges my skills every time
at a 2 hdcp makes me use my mind frequently when assesing shots, alot of mental presure along with the physical parts.
Try the Ranch
Don't try to over power this course always play to fat part of the fairways andthe greens. This is my favorite course because of the challenge of the course. One mistake on any hole can lead to a double or more, take your medicine and don't go super shot to make up for it.
Difficult but good course
The course is well maintained on both fare way and green.
A lot of fun
This course is a love it or hate it type course. I love it. It has a lot of forced carries, elevated tee shots and several blinds shots. It is not a wide open muni where you can bomb your driver out there all day. You have to think.
Gutsy Golf!
Having never played this course I had no idea what to expect. This course is not for the meek. A majority of the holes require a significant tee shot over a canyon, valley or hazard. This being said the views from the elevated tees of not only the valley but the course itself were stunning. The tee shots required some serious thought about where to hit the ball and how much risk you were willing to take. The greens were challenging but by no means crazy and they were in good shape. Golfers, please fix your ball marks! There were some areas that appeared to have some drainage problems as they were very soggy.
In short it is a great course but you better bring your big boy pants as the tee shots alone will test your nerve.
Picturesque
This course is challenging and not very forgiving. I like that about this course. What I also like is that if you make a decent golf shot, you will be fine. You don't have to make a spectacular golf shot, just make a decent golf shot and you are rewarded. On a lot of courses, you can blow a shot and be ok. Not so much on this course. But again, that is the attraction to me. Before I head out to this course, I try to get in a few days of good ball striking at the local range.
This is definitely one of the more picturesque courses.
This is a fun but very challenging course
This was a Friday and there were no marshals available to keep play going at a reasonable pace, which resulted in a slow round and forced us to quit after 15 holes.
the ranch
course makes you think about every part of your game . there are no free rides if you don't know your distances or how to adjust your swing and aim with your feet above or below the ball you will be punished . the greens are great how they are laid out again you have to be on your toes. This course will tell you very quickly where your weakness is . IT is a great course to test your skills that is the reason i keep going back to fight the course and one day i'll win but it still get's the better of me for now that why I will keep going back. Check it out see how you stack up.
Very Challenging
This course is unique in that it is extremely difficult with narrow fairways, slopes, elevations, sand, ravines, etc. Difficult to judge distances on many holes and where to land the ball in the fairway to avoid rolling off. Definately worth a trip if you want an experience.
