poor customer service
first this is a severe test of golf, then you have marshalls/course person hanging out telling people to hurry up without checking to see if you are out of position. may not ever go back..
course needs work
The quality of the groundskeeping has slipped in the recent past, at this course. The bunkers were not raked and are full of pebbles, not good for the clubs. Some of the fairways are burned out in spots. The day I played, the greens had not been cut. Good value for money.
Challenging Course
Couse is hard, but fun. Not a place I want to play every week, but definetly once a month.
My Current Favorite
The Ranch is currently my favorite golf destination in the South Bay. Pace of play, course conditions, staff, club house facilities, carts in good working order. Everything is always good, No question, it's THE best value around.
course has great vistas and conditioning was excellent, the holes are hokey and the greens are ridiculously hard
I would not recommend this course to anyone, unless you are out to enjoy the views and don't mind loosing a bunch of golf balls. The routing and severity of the golf course ensure a 5 hour round at a minimum. I will be surprised if this course is in existence much longer, I can only imagine playing it once, as I have and will. My suggestion to management would at the very least to soften the green complexes, it was hard enough to get there, you don't need to be tortured after you have arrived. The super has done a wonderful job. I hope the Ranch the best.
Nice but weird course, no walking but no carts off path, no drink cart, no 19th hole...
This course is a bit odd in layout, but I usually like it. THis weekend though it lacked quite a bit. No driving range of course so you have to hit a few balls into a net to get loose. Not a great start. It is so hilly and the walks between holes are so long that you must ride in a cart, but then they do not let you take carts off the path despite the warm and dry conditions. The course is so difficult, and then to have average golfers or first-timers on this course walking back and forth to their cart all the time with armloads of clubs slows everything down even more. We never saw the drink cart on the course (after the first fairway when you don't need it), and then after our round at 5:15PM, the bar was closed... 5:15PM on Saturday the bar is closed? THis course has a hard time attracting golfers for all these reasons. THe management needs to wise up a bit. With all the natural things going against this course, they will never get golfers if they do not allow for a little fun... carts on the course, drink cart and a place to sit and relax afterwards to have a beer and settle up the bets.
Took 3 hours to play 9 holes, no marshall no care for pace of play, gave up at 12 holes, bunkers were a joke, you need sand in them
challenging, will never play again , due to lack of organization and pace of play
Challenging but a lot of fun.
This is a very challenging course but a lot of fun. The course is in very good shape and spectacular views of the San Jose valley. Down side, the sand traps aren't the best as they have about a half inch of sand and then hard pan under that. The course is cart path only, but that is understandable due the the extreme hills/slopes of the course. Like I said, it's a great course that will really challenge any golfer. The staff is friendly and professional. I definately will go back, and I recomend this course. It's a lot of fun.
Great views and tee placements
My uncle and I played The Ranch for the first time and really enjoyed it. Lost a few here and there but still enjoyed the day.
Very interesting holes
It's important to keep the ball in play, otherwise you need a lot of ammunition. We couldn't remove the black plastic bag from the elk's horns.
Beautiful course.
The course is challenging, but fair. I loved the views and it is one of the best manicured courses I've played. Had a great time and can't wait to play again. Take some extra balls.
Lots of character and moderate to high difficulty with great views of the valley.
Nice course with great views and challenging holes winding through the hillsides. Not for beginners, but moderate to good golfers would enjoy this course.
Favorite Silicon Valley layout.
Great greens (ultra-fast), difficult driving holes (no driver needed), and spectacular views of the surrounding area.
Expect a higher score if its your first time.
Brutal course, great views
As has been noted by others, this is an extremely difficult course. Some of the holes (especially on the front 9) were borderline silly. Lots of forced carries to narrow landing areas (both to fairway and green). Several blind shots (in my opinion, the 12 foot flagstick is always a sign of a gimmicky course). Bring extra balls. On the plus side, the course has beautiful views and friendly staff.
fantastic views
The course is a wonderful track but extremely difficult.
It looks like something out of the tiger woods video game. It is a target course for sure and if you refuse to play that way it can really penalize you. Just when you think the hole should be a chip and putt you get slapped in the face by the very difficult greens. Be sure to bring your A game.
The Ranch is a unique design for golfers who enjoy a challenge.
This course is not for every golfer. That said, it offers a beautiful track, well cared for, that will test every aspect of your game. It is carved into the foothills of South San Jose with precision and restraint and demands the same of those who venture there. The designers and staff have preserved the natural beauty of the site in spite of housing development nearby. The course features tightly sculpted fairways, fast and complex greens, spectacular views and 18 memorable holes that will not bring you back to the comfort of the clubhouse until you finish. I recommend this course to intermediate and advanced golfers. Bring a camera, an extra sleeve of balls and enjoy.
lay up course!
The course looked awesome, great views, picturesque holes and overall appealing layout.
The course itself, not so much. It was like they tried to squeeze in a 18 hole course in a housing development. To many nooks and crannys where you have to lay up and simply hope for the best. Was never able to really play with the woods and even long irons were rare.
Narrow fairways with brutal OB territory, so bring lots of balls. Im talking lots!
Fun and difficult course in one!
Just recently played the Ranch Golf Club. First time playing in the rain. Very demanding course and really great layout. Love how some of the bunkers and spacing where the greens are make u think about laying up or you'll end up dropping a provisional. I would love to come back to this course again in the summer. Hitting a ball that's in a puddle of water on the fairway, into the wind is no fun when the splash hits ur face.
For December and having a really heavy rain the previous weekend I thougth the course was in great shape.
Given a 12:30 PM tee time I was not sure we would finish before dark. Play was brisk and we finished by 4:45, just in time. The course to me is a challenge and like I was saying given it's December, I thought it was in great condition.
The check in staff and the starters were very customer service oriented.
The course is challenging.
A challenging course that requires a lot of procise shots. Too many side hill lies.
