The Ranch is very challenging. !!!
I love this course. nice, beuatiful views. The green very challenging for me and I LOVE IT. I got a great deal from the golf now .com and will bring more friends to try this course AGAIN.
Needs water, and sand
No sand in the bunkers, grass needs water on the fairway, greens are in terrible shape, not worth 80$
Some great, some bad
Played The Ranch for the first time today. The staff was great and helped me out when I had a mixup with my tee time.
The good: fairways were in great shape on most holes. The 12th had some patchy yellow spots. Greens were in good shape on all holes, and probably played to an 11 on the stimp. Greens were pretty interesting too - a few elevation changes. Pin placement seemed pretty fair. Course is visually pleasing - lots of elevation gives you great views.
The bad: bunkers were awful - some were filled with water. There wasn't light fluffy sand like you'd expect on a course like this. There's no practice facility despite having a lot of land on the property - so no range, no chipping area. Nice practice green and a 2 bay netted off hitting area - that's all. Layout was funky to me - course had a lot of elevation changes into tight fairways. Many forced carries. Not too many blind shots, but a lot of funkiness that seemed unnecessary. It's like the course was designed to be very hard, but just because the course is hard doesn't mean it's good.
Pace of play was about 5 hours. Many lost balls.
I don't think I'd want to pay the rack rate to play here, but for $40 or so, I think it's worth it. Clubhouse restaurant looked pretty nice too.
Unusual course; not in the best shape.
The is a novelty course; best description I can come up with. Views of the valley are great. Good practice for your long irons and wedges.
None of the traps have sand. Many of them have clumps of weeds and grass. Rest of course was in fair to good condition.
Tricky Course
The golf course is up on a hill, and yields some nice views of the surrounding areas.
It was too "tricky" for my taste. Many of the shots are to very small targets from far away. Half the tee shots are to a 100 foot drop. Some of the fairways are like 10 yards wide. The course would probably become easier when played a few more times, but I still would call it pretty weird. Oh ... and bunkers were unplayable. Not very good for a $80 or so green fee.
Cart path only no more
Been playing here for years, very challenging layout so bring your A game and at least a case of balls. New management has done away with cart path only signs which makes the course more tolerable.
Bad
6 1/2 hour round, doesn't reward good shots. 2 handicap and lost 5 balls.
a challenging mountain course
you have to be very good on your driver in order to play well in this course, if your long iron is far and good, you can have very good score here, or this course could be your nightmare. there' are two very short par 3 very easy. Front night is more difficult than the back nine.
A challenging and fun course in good condition to play in the South Bay.
A target play course with the front nine is more challenging than the back nine. Club selection is critical to keep the score under control. Be sure to bring enough balls if play the first time at this course.
Fix the bunkers please
The Ranch is a beautiful but difficult course.
I play here a lot. I love the layout and know the course well, now.
My main complaint is the condition of the sand in the bunkers. Will you please, either put some more sand in the bunkers or till the sand that is there to make it playable. As they are now, we might as well be playing off concrete.
Aerating
This first rate course really dropped the ball this day. While they did mention on golfnow.com that the greens were being aerated the greens were actually covered with a layer of sand. As a result it was like putting in a sand trap - completely unplayable . They also never mentioned that only 9 holes were being used on that day. It was a waste of time even with a reduced green fee
Tough Place to Play
Ball placement is critical. Narrow landing areas and little to no play unless in landing area. Even the rough is narrow and beyond the rough is a point of no return. Unable to find due to the fact that you play along the canyon walls with long carries. Not bad if you are a long hitter.
A beautiful course with great views, however very difficult to play.
very challenging but beautiful golf course
beautiful course with many nice hole layout, challenging golfer to play here, a bit up set with the group in front super slow so can not finish 18 hole :( but I will come back.
The Ranch - always hard
Love The Ranch. Yes it's hard. Look around. Only downside today was wetness of the course after the recent rains. A lot of plugged lies. Always a great challenge.
A good course
The course is challenging and requires target shots. I played in 3 and half hours. You cannot walk the course some holes are five minutes by cart away ( crazy). The course has many long carry shots and tons of elevation. This course is not for the high handicapper.
Unfirendly to Handicapped
I have not played the course as it's layout does not permit access to many fairways. When I asked the staff recently I was warned of the non- access conditions. If handicapped BEWARE!
Better staff attitude...
This is one my favorite courses (especially since they've opened up the whole course). In the past they would treat golf now customers (especially those who signed up through the hot deals) with great disdain. Today I walked in and the staff was friendly & professional. Course was in pretty good condition (just had a storm pass through)...except the bunkers. They need to be redone with sand.
A little slow, finished 16 holes in just under 4 1/2 hours. But an enjoyable round (and great views!).
Nice day at the Ranch
Got a good deal using Golf Now Hot Deals. In years past the Ranch pro shop always had a lot of disdain for us using the the Hot Deals. This time they were very professional & pleasant.
I've always like this course. Always has some great views. With the exception of the bunkers (need to be redone) it was in really good shape given the recent storms.
Challenging and beautiful scenery
Courses are very challenging, this course is the most challenging course to me around Sanjose. Uphill course you better take 2 longer club and the downhill with one club shorter. Enjoy the beautiful scenes during the rounding.
December playing
The fairway was in poor shape & too many ball marks on the greens; Glad the bridge was finally fixed but course is not worth full price until the water handling is handled.
