Mare Island Golf Club

I really like this course. Spectacular views of the Bay from about a half of the holes.

Only issue is a lack of sand in the bunkers. Still was an awesome value.

The course is in great shape...more challenging than I remember with some nicely undulating greens. Of course, the views are spectacular.

Super weather, great condition, good speed..will go again asap!!

This course is Not easy ,, it's a True players course and that's why I Love it.

The course layout requires critical thinking hole to hole. Especially when it's windy. At first glance it looks easy, but it's not. The greens ate me up the first 4 or 5 rounds, but after that I managed to play them better. I love playing this course.

Mare Island is not an easy course, but still fun and has great views. It has some tricky holes (17) and some very narrow shots, (12). Only 3 par 3's. It is usually windy, especially on the front nine. Lots of brush on both sides of the fairways and many bunkers. The greens were in pretty good shape and the fairways were cut short, which helps. One needs to play this course a few times before expecting to get lower scores. Takes some practice to learn it's secrets. Still, good value overall.

Grew up in Vallejo so Mare Island is not foreign to me. This course has significantly changed since my high school years...The course layout and the addition of the back 9 (which is now the front nine) is great, but the condition of the course is definitely not the best. While you do get a few scenic views of San Pablo Bay and the old side of Vallejo, you may find yourself hitting out of a bunker with no sand. Even if their was sand, it felt more like hard dirt. The fairways and tee boxes were hit or miss. The greens were rolling pretty good, but did have a lot of divots and holes in them (I guess players or staff no longer care to fix divots in the green). Oh and the carts are the worse carts in the Bay Area lol. If they could bring someone in and fix up the course, with its design, it can be one of the better Bay Area courses.

Mare Island is challenging golf course with competent greens in a beautiful setting! We had a great day, friendly staff and good amenities . We will definitely return!!

Enjoyed the day except for the pace of play

It was so slow the the two golfers that were with me stoped after the 10th hole

Not sure why it was but the group in front of me had 4 people then some how 5 were playing and then around hole 12 only 3

Either way the pace was very slow

The course is in good shape and they have added sand to most of the sand traps

It was smoky because of the fires in the area but playable

Great round in perfect weather, greens rolling very nice, and pace of play was great!!

Great place when everywhere else is hot

Be aware of rattlesnake I saw a good size one

The course played great I play at least once a month there and the over all condition of the fairway and greens were the best I've seen this year they had really improved it the fringe was cut so you had a chance to hit a recovery shot

But please put some sand in the traps

They are harder then the cart path

I look forward to play again soon

If you like courses with elevation and a variety of challenges you will enjoy this course

I play the course at least once a week. Basic course knowledge is that you should play most shots to the left, since the fairways invariably slant to the right. It's a fun course, but it's hard to score well. There are still a number of dead trees that need to be removed (notably on the first hole, where it impedes many shots). Greens are recovering from recent raking. Big gripe is that whoever digs out the new holes does not level the area around the hole. Thus, many a putt curving toward the hole makes a last-second detour in the other direction. Bunkers need sand (in a previous life at this course, Swabbies were assigned to weed the traps and level the sand). As it is now, in order to protect our clubs, we just take a non-penalized drop out of the traps. With the various promotions and special rates, this course is a good deal, but fixing the above-mentioned problems would make it more attractive each day. On weekday mornings, if you tee off about 10 or later you should have the course to yourself the rest of the day.
