Mare Island Golf Club

Very challenging course, reminds of a good links course. Careful,of the rattlesnakes though we saw 3 and the starter warned he killed a decent sized one earlier in the morning. Definitely worth the money, take a friend though as the pace of play is slow.

This course is challenging, but keeping the Mosquitoes at bay is the real challenge. All the yellow jackets in every trap and mud pocket with water in it was Intimidating. It's basically a bug breeding island of Torture . I'm wouldn't going back even if you paid me.

Figured a buddy and I would try a new course. The moscitos infested the course half way through the front nine. We left after nine having learned we will never be back or recommend Mare Island to a friend. Dramatic elevation changes on every hole, each green tattered and left the grass really long. Each putt the ball bounced a few times. Very disappointed but we learned we'd never come back, not even if it was free.

I feel that this golf course is a bit short for me.I hit from the blue tees , and on the 13th hole par 4 (296 yards) I landed in front of the green and onto the center of it.My first time ever putting for eagle on a par 4.Fairways were in ok condition and alot of them narrow.What impressed me the most was how nice most of the greens were. If you hit the ball in the fairways most of the time, you should be fine. If you have that dreaded slice on this course, prepare to lose quite a few balls here. Definitely worth a visit at the right price.

Great weather & great company. The course was in great shape, but greens were a little bumpy due to recent seeding. My best round ever at Mare Island. Thanks for a great price & outstanding day!!

Hate to give bad reviews but, was sad to see this course so rundown and beat up! I played this course for years going back to 9 hole days and it is in the worst shape I have ever seen it. Also, took a long time to play with very little crowds there... my guess is there isn't any money to keep up the course. It is a shame cause this course was so fun to play and has a lot of character. Also, the older gentlemen in the pro shop doesn't help keeping customers.

Played well. Great scenery!! Times for golf courses are tough. What a shame. This could be a spectacular course. It's still very nice!

It was,quite frankly,an almost perfect day. Sunny, warm with an occasional breeze, which is expected near the bay. No waiting at all on the tees or fairways. Course is in very good shape overall. My partner did notice on one hole, I believe it was on the back nine where there were 2 bunkers near the green where they were roped off as ground under repair. Not sure if they plan on repairing or replacing them. Mare Island course overall is a challenging yet fair test for any golfer. By the way, I'm a terrible golfer (don't keep score)! Just enjoy playing to get exercise, fresh air, etc.

I realized when I arrived at the course that I had forgotten my wallet. It was over an hour from my home, so there was no thought of going back. I explained the situation to the staff person, and he graciously allowed me to play anyway. This changed what could have been a very frustrating and wasted weekend day into a very enjoyable round of golf. I was very pleased that I was allowed to play on- they just earned themselves a mountain of good will in my book. It was a perfect day of weather, with a nice breeze off the bay to keep it cool. Teeing off at 2 pm on a Saturday, I played in 4 hours! The views at the course are stunning- there is water on two sides, and several elevated tee boxes that provide panoramic views. A true gem, made better by the friendly and generous staff.

I've been playing here since it was a 9 hole military course - had a 12:30 time on a Thursday - got there a few minutes early - checked in and Teed off straight away - we were a twosome - there was a twosome ahead off us and a twosome behind us

We were all playing at a good pace -course was in good shape - WE were walking off 18 at 4:00 - a 3 1/2 hour round - which is a good pace -

My only criticism - the water in the ball washers was pretty foul and the didnt have any towels - but I carrier one - so - It was no big deal

I've played Mare Island for many years. The golf course conditions have become worse and worse. We never saw a course marshal at all, and there was a foresome that on the 15th hole, hit their drives, then took pictures until the next group came to the tee box. The kitchen says it is open until 3:30. So we teed off at 12:30, and back at the turn at 2:45. The kitchen was closed.

A really nice course. Traps seriously need sand. Cart paths need some work so it doesn't feel like you are riding on a lava bed.
