About
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough
areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Great Course with a few flaws
The only issue I have with Lonnie Poole is everytime I play it is always backed up. Having to wait at min five minutes before you hit every shot due to having to wait for the people in front to clear. I guess that comes from being a championship course in the middle of Raleigh. A lot of people want to play it. Also, and maybe there is a reason for this but why are they charging full price in the winter for tee times at 3 pm when there is no way you can finish 18. You would think they would offer the option to play 9 holes. Overall, great course and enjoy playing it just knowing there will be some waiting throughout the round.
Snack/food could be improved.
Course well kept and challenging would love to return
Great course, just pricey
Conditions are great. The layout is strong. It's a tough walk with the elevation changes, but overall a great choice.
Worth it
Great course. Fast greens. They do need to fix divots had a great time with great views and great layouts
Excruciating Pace of Play
Course is in excellent condition. Pace of play was horrendous. 2 1/2 hr front nine, 40 minutes to play holes 10 and 11. Got to 12th tee....problem foursome on green, twosome in fairway, two foursomes waiting to tee off!!!!! Holes 13 and 14 open.....we (a foursome) skipped to hole 14 and played the last 5 holes in 1 hour! Never saw a ranger.
Great condition, pity about the pitch marks
The course was in great condition. The bent grass greens are lovely but players are not repairing pitch marks. My playing partner and I repaired multiple pitch marks on every green.
Slow Play
It took 5 hrs to play golf on aThursday morning , we made the turn and they let a single jump in ahead of our group , not what I expected
A challenging layout
Arnold Palmer’s design challenges you off the tee, approaching the green and putting. Multiple tee boxes gave you the option to find a length that is appropriate for your game. From the back tees it is long! Regardless of the tee box, well placed bunkers require you to make good decisions and greens are well protected requiring accurate iron shots. The bunkers were in great shape but the greens were a little tore up ostensibly from the wet conditions and the heavy traffic. It is always busy there.
