Dead green Photo submitted by bandjwright on 09/05/2017
Good value
The greens needed a little work, but other than that the course was in pretty good shape. The pace of play was excellent and the staff friendly. For the money, it was an excellent value.
Good course
This course has something for everyone. Can be a challenge on some holes. Hamburgers are quite good and the staff are great. I always enjoy this course when I play it.
Worth the trip just to play #17
Very nice interesting challenging layout near Homer GA. Definitely worth the trip just to play #17
not very good shape....
The round was fun but course conditions were not very good. However this course is a very good lay out. Would still play again for the money.
Good course good price
It was a good course for the price. After the completion of the clear cutting the course will be better if they fix the cart paths
Nice layout golf course
Chemney Oak golf course is set to all level of golfers. A relatively challenging course to beginners. Each time i played there, i had all kind if challengs. Summer will even be more beautiful and cahllenge with the elelvation . I love it
Under Construction
The course has poetical and is going through renovation and has a long way to go. They cleared out a ton of trees and the course its self could use an overhaul greens were ok at best fair way are ok. not the greatest course by any stretch. I will play there again when they get done with the renovations not before.
Scales Creek / Hammers Glen / Chimney Oaks
Firstly, not sure why this course had had so many name changes through the years. It's still the same course no matter what it's named.
The layout of the course is great; Very memorable.
Now the current status:
They have harvested the pines on the front nine, and that has changed that nine dramatically; Obviously, it will take some time to get it back to its original aesthetic conditions. Secondly, they unfortunately had the logging trucks on the cart paths, and have torn a lot of them up.
Now to the course:
The fairways are in winter condition, but will be back when the bermuda starts to grow. Most of the greens are in great shape, but a few need a little work.
Seriously, still a great course. Don't avoid taking the drive to enjoy this course.
Enjoyable course
This course has its difficult holes, protected by bunkers and moguls. We always have a great time playing this course. The staff are friendly and courteous. Recently it has changed ownership and appears to be moving forward. I look forward to playing here again soon. The greens need some attention and I was assured that the new owners were going to make them a priority.
One of my favorite courses
Just enough rolling hills to make it interesting ...gives you options of laying up or rip it!!!
not a good experience
I've played this course ever since it opened, was always pleased with conditions of the course and pace of play was never a problem. However, when I played on December 13 i was very disappointed with several things:
1. Course conditions, the tees and greens were in bad shape! Some of the tees had no grass, basically hitting off of dirt. The greens were beat up with several of them looking like someone had taken a joy ride in a golf cart on them!
2. Clubhouse, mainly the snack bar. No one was working the grill, and no drink cart.
3. Pace of play, since when are six-somes and five-somes allowed? To top it off when I finally reached the 10th hole I find that the clubhouse guys are letting 2 foursomes start thier round on 10 where its already backed up.
I gave up and left, which by the way I have never done in the 25 years I've p!ayed golf!
It is a shame to see the beautiful track that Mark McCumber designed in the shape that is in. It will be a long time before I play there again. Take my advice and save your money and time for a course that deserves it!
Disappointed
I've been playing golf for 25 years, and I've never left after 9 holes because of being frustrated with the course and staff.
1. There were a group of 6 and a group of 5 on the course that held up pace of play considerably.
2. No drink cart. No one manning the snack bar in the clubhouse either.
3. When I finally reached the back nine I find 2 foursomes starting their round on the 10th.
4. I do realize that it is wintertime, however the greens were atrocious. In several places it looked like someone had cut donuts on the green in a golf cart.
It seems to me that the beautiful course that Mark Mcumber designed is being poorly run in a lot of ways, and that's a shame!
Hidden treasure
Although the facilities are minimal, the young guy inside was excellent. Very friendly.
The range is basic but it's a range after all.
The layout was fun and challenging with long par 3's. The greens were soft and produced a lot of spin. They were a bit slow but, we just came off a cold snap and they had not mowed that morning.
Definitely worth playing and the price is right.
No no
Though the course has pretty good layout but the condition was pathetic. Club house is really creepy too.
I look forward to playing again
Played this course as Scales a few months ago. The course layout was a lot of fun, many different holes that make this course very interesting. Conditions of the course were fair at best. I'm hoping upon returning that the new ownership has improved the course making this back into the great course it was at one time.
