Golfer Reviews
Terribly disappointed
Extremely disappointed in the staff today. After a rough week, booked a 4pm tee time on Golfnow. It said for 18 holes and was not cheap. Get there at 3:30 with my son to hit a few balls. The starter immediately says we need to hurry, he asked us to hit the balls after the round. Then says they don't have any control of Golfnow software and we shouldn't expect to finish since we had a 4pm time. He said other courses don't allow you to tee off after 4pm for 18 holes. I told him that is why we chose Sandpiper. He wanted to blame us for booking a tee time. We go ahead and hit the range balls because we can see the nine they want us to start on had two foursomes at the tee box. We ask if we can go off one of the other two nines and they say no. We catch the foursome at hole 2 and wait at every tee box to watch them tee off. They said carts had to be in at 7:30 for safety reasons. Sunset was 8:08. If they didn't want us to play they should have offered a refund. The greens were the only good thing about the course. I'm a local for part of the year and will take my business elsewhere. I don't go play golf to get mad before I tee off.
Would not recommend
This was a birthday surprise round for my husband and turned out to be not good. The starter situation was chaotic, the back-up at the first tee was 30 minutes and 10 carts, pace of play awfully slow with no ranger to help, course was in horrible conditions, hard and bone-dry fairways with dead grass. Greens were good and super slow/ soft. They overcharge and underdeliver. Would not recommend or come back! We left after 14 holes and 5 hours of waiting! Simply bad!
Playing at the Beach
First time playing this course Piper to Bay. I found the course to be in good shape with very nice greens that rolled true and at medium speed. The fairways were nice and green with decent grass considering the drought. The cart paths need work, but I was told that work on them will begin soon. The pace of play was great we played in the afternoon and finished in 4 hrs. The pro shop and starter were friendly and gave us a choice of courses. The practice area is nice with a large green, bunker and driving range. I would definitely play here again. We played on a hot deal and I thought it was a great value.
PIPER & BAY
I played Piper & Bay. First time playing the. Bay 9, Other that cold/windy, it was a great day on the course. Enjoyed the layout of the course, and some tough pin placements!
Great course!
Generous fairways! A treat to play! I’m from out of town and I would return to play again
Why rush???
Love the course
Played Thursday and Saturday.
9:15 - 30 times
Each time starter rushes is out earlier and we get to 1st hole which is a par 5 and we have to wait 12 min to tee off
There were 4 foursomes on the same hole and the round was backed up all day
Not a ranger in sight
When we returned after the 18 holes there wasn't anyone waiting to play.
Not sure why they were in a rush to get people out?
Other than having to wait 5 min per hole and having the foresome behind us driving up on us every tee shot.
Course was very good.
Course A, Pro Shop A, Starters F
While on a recent trip to NC I got the chance to play all 3 nine hole courses at Sandpiper Bay.
The courses are in excellent condition, with well-maintained fairways, true-rolling greens, and nicely groomed bunkers.
The overall presentation and upkeep of the course are impressive.
The pace of play was fantastic - we never felt rushed but also had no long waits, which made for an enjoyable round.
The pro shop staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient in getting us checked in.
However, I must mention an issue with the starters that significantly detracted from the experience. Their only role seemed to be loading our bags onto the carts, yet their behavior was problematic. Two starters, in particular, stood out: Billy came across as unnecessarily sarcastic and unhelpful when we had questions. More concerning was Charlie, whose presence felt intrusive, and he made multiple not-so-subtle hints for tips. This behavior went beyond typical course etiquette and made us quite uncomfortable. It's disappointing that a staff member whose only job is to load bags onto carts would engage in such persistent tip-seeking behavior. This approach felt inappropriate and put a damper on what should have been a relaxing day of golf. Despite these issues with the starters, the excellent course conditions and otherwise smooth operations would likely bring me back next year.
I sincerely hope management addresses this situation to ensure all guests can enjoy their golfing experience without feeling pressured or uncomfortable. The course itself is top-notch, but the starter situation needs improvement to match the quality of the facilities.
Great Course
Nice fairway grass, good greens, excellent course layout. Cart paths need some work in many locations.
Great Course
Very good course, fairways and greens very good, pace of play could be better, very crowded.
