Scotch Hall Golf Course
First time to play this course. Scotch Hall is about an hour and forty minutes from Chesapeake, but it was worth the drive. Staff was friendly and helpful. The carts are equipped w/GPS and they provide water and tees in the carts. It was a bit of a cart ride to the practice area and 1st tee box, but once on the course the tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in very good condition. Hope this course will be able to generate the business to keep it in good condition. It is an excellent Arnold Palmer designed course.
Birthday Round
It was great from the time we entered the preserve, the staff was friendly, helpful and assisted us from beginning to the time we left. The course was as awesome as we had heard. I will be back with my friends. Thanks for the wonderful birthday round.
Two years later
Course has been in great shape both times altho no Pro Shop on first visit. Only down is the trek to No 1 from Pro Shop, need Dr Livingstone to suss out a shorter route!!!
Very friendly staff and we will be back!!!
best value in NC
I have been playing Scotch Hall Preserve (formerly Innsbrook) since it opened. Our foursome played last Sunday for an unbelievable price. The course is in outstanding condition (as it's been since it opened). The architecture is challenging and the few houses that are built never impact hole playability. The course is never crowded. Unlimited range balls and cart are included. It is worth the short drive from OBX or the Triangle.
Beautiful coarse that is in great condition. The coarse is widely laid out and not cramped. Most of the coarse you have a great view of the Albemarle sound.
Great golf
If you get the chance to play here, you will love it . Challenging but very playable
Great Value
I was so impressed with this course. I was expecting an overrated course as I got a cheap deal on GolfNow. The wind off the sound makes the course difficult from all tee boxes. The greens are taken care of and fast for as flat as they are. The fairways have problematic areas because of sand traps, hills, and the rough. I would highly recommend this course.
Wind
Course was in very nice shape.Greens rolled quick and true and fairways sat up nicely.
Club house had a "Shed" burger which is an excellent value.
Out of the way gem
I played Scotch Hall Preserve yesterday and I have to give the course a two thumbs up. It was my first time playing there, mainly due to the fact that it's a three hour round trip drive from my home. Overall, the course was great. Staff very friendly and helpful, good food at The Shed, and nice warm-up area. What you would expect from a Palmer course. I did however find it aggravating that a threesome kept me behind them from number 4 all the way to number the end of the round, even after I found one of their clubs they left behind and returned it to them. Not the course's fault but still dampens the experience. Otherwise, I would highly suggest if you are in the northeast section of North Carolina give this place a try. I will return very soon for another round. By the way...bring your beach clothes because there's more sand on this beauty than at the beach, LOL!
Excellent Course
Very challenging course that has a course rating higher than 77 and a a slope greater than 145 and plays 7,200+yards. It wasn't even that windy but I. The several 450+ par 4s made it challenging to come in to greens guarded by bunkers and water. Hole 17 is an excellent signature hole and good one to finish the day on.
Highly recommended. Played on December 11 and course was still in great shape. I wish they would overseed just to make it look nicer. But the fairways are still in great shape despite them being brown. Bunkers re nicely takes as well. Greens have many undulations too which call for leaving your approaches in the right spot if you want an easy up and down if you miss the green
Worrh the trip
Live on the OBX have played all courses within 50 miles. THE BEST!
Amazing course and views
The course is amazing but the best part may have been the food in the shed after #12
Hidden Gem!
I had head about this course from a friend. I finally got a chance to play it Friday, and what a pleasure! The staff was great, very friendly and helpful! The course was immaculate. Greens were fast and very receptive. A challenging layout the rewards shot making while not overly punishing an errant shot. Beautiful setting and layout. I will be back again soon!
This course makes you think
Great course for strategic play or u can get into trouble. Very scenic and a challenge with all the bunkers.
Beautiful course, brutal rough
The Bermuda rough was brutal. Our foursome spent an enormous amount of time looking for balls that were hit just off the fairway into what seemed like 4 to 5 inch rough. The balls dropped out of sight.
But we all agreed the course was as good as ever. Beautiful layout.
The king
The best course I ever played among Palmer courses. There is nothing to complaint.
Magnificent Golf Course
I drive a hour and half from Chesapeake, VA to Scotch hall Preserve and I must say was the best golf course I've ever played on.
First of all when you arrive, you check in and a cart attendant brings a cart to your car and loads up your bags. Top notch southern hospitality. Finding your way around the course is a little wierd but once you figure it out its fine. They moved the pro shop away from the 1,9,10,18 splits. It's a hike to number 1 but your driving in a very nice cart with built in gps so no worries.
From 1 to 18 tee box to green it is pure beauty. I've never played a course with well manicured tee boxes. The fairways are plush green carpet. The rough is exactly that, it's rough. You will be awarded for finding fairways. You will be greatly penalized for finding rough. Most of the cart paths ride right along bushes and high grass. There's no bouncing off cart paths and finding grass to hit a second shot. HIT STRAIGHT SHOTS!!!! There's nothing bad to say about this course.
There's a cooler on your cart filled with water. Every par 3 has a huge cooler filled with ice and water for you to drink. The carts have a very nice touch screen gps system that tracks each shot, where you are and even slows you down to 10 mph on bridges. Make sure you follow cart path signs. If not gps will tell you and slow you down to 7mph. Touch screen even has a scorecard function that automatically comes up after you leave each green.
If you looking for a great deal and a beautiful course with magnificent views then Scotch Hall Preserve should be your next outing. Thank you Scotch Hall for a great golf day I fully plan on returning.
Great course, what's up with the pro shop?
We played yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful piece of land and beautiful course.Good course layout, fair but tough. Greens were not in good shape at all. Now the new pro shop. Why put the pro shop a half a mile from the first tee? We took our cart on a long trip to the first tee only to turn back around to make the long trip back to get a bag of range balls.
Very inconvenient.
This course has great features
Course is always kept nice...traps wash after heavy rains but that's expected...with all the big nice bunkers there...great golf tee to green...Staff are wonderful to deal with...best deal for the money that I played....
