Plumas Lake Golf & Country Club

About
Established in 1926, Plumas Lake Golf & Country Club has long been one of the Sacramento Valley's most treasured courses. First opened as a nine-hole layout, the course expanded to a full 18 holes in 1960. Mature oak trees line the lush fairways and small greens and there is also a canal that snakes through the entire property, coming into play on 12 holes. There are also strategically placed bunkers protecting the greens. You're in for a formidable test on this golf course but the rough is quite manageable and the layout isn't particularly long or hilly. Plumas Lake's 10th is one of the most memorable holes. This tough hole is a short par 5 that requires an accurate drive over a creek that crosses the fairway before you're faced with an elevated green.

Bring your best putter
This is a really great course and lots of fun to play. LThe course was in really great shape. The greens have lots of character, lightning fast with lots of undulations with absolutely diabolical pin placements. I would definite recommend this course.
Greens a little firm, but rolled true
Quiet course in the country. Slow playing after about 5 holes with no real improvement in pace. No Marshall on course. Undulating greens can be very tricky, but rolled nicely. Firmness made it hard to stick a green also. There has been some tree removal which makes a couple of the holes considerably easier. Nice day and good price made for a good outing
Technical fun course
Great challenging course, even for beginners. This is what golf is about. You'll love this course, worth the drive wherever you are.
No character
Shop man was less than friendly. Group I played with said he’s been like that forever. Shop smelled like an ashtray. Course mowed like a park with no fairway cut. At least I know now what to expect. Golf Now priced it right.
Best course in our area
This is a great course, always in good condition. I'm not a great golfer, so the distance wears me out. No complaints. I played in a company tournament that was a fund raiser and paid 100.00
Strange, old school layout.
Mostly not crazy about the layout. You had to bend your tee shots around trees on a few holes. And the one staff person we met acted like we were bothering him.
Good sand though. And the greens were good. Fairways average condition. Grass is thin.
Kind of middle of nowhere location. Overall average value.
Mosquitoes
Be prepared when you play at plumas lake. If an individual doesn't have bug spray they might get carried away or sucked dry. Other than that the course was pretty nice my main complaint is how expensive it is to play here.
Player Friendly
Enjoyed the round. Not much in elevation changes, but enough to get your attention. Wide landing areas and nice fairway routing. Course was in good condition, except the greens, which appeared to have been arreated a week or so ago. I'm sure they'll be nice in another week.
Overbooked and course not in great condition
When we got there, it turned out there was a club men's tournament that we were fitted right into the middle as well as at least one, maybe two other outings. When I did not hear our name for our assigned tee time, I had to go back into pro shop and remind them we had checked in. Played with two other members, who were very nice.Took 6 hours to play!!! Sometimes 3 groups waiting on a tee box. The members we played with apologized saying that they had never seen it like this before. Course was challenging, especially the greens where they were severely undulating. Lots of dead spots on the fairways though and sometimes hard to tell what was fairway and what was rough. Probably will not play this course again. too many choices in the area.
Back again
Overall good experience. Great rate but couple of things.
1. Shot link in carts doesn't work. Look good but ineffective.
2. Had 2 "blue flag" players but the carts shut off anywhere near the green. Tough on stage 4 cancer player
3. Traps not well maintained. Crabgrass and mucho foot prints
Greens good little slow but receptive
Fairways great. Ball sits up nicely. Rough 2 inches but ball goes right to the bottom. Don't mss the fairway.
Will be back
rough start
We had a 10:30 AM tee time, We got there at 9:30. We were ready to go by 10 AM. The course was empty and so we decided to go ahead and tee off. No one anywhere around. The man in the pro shop came out and told us in a very unfriendly way we had to wait. hmmm, No one came for 25 minutes. We could have been on hole 3 or 4 by the time he came out and said we could tee off. A sad man and needs a job that you don't deal with people. I notice a review below had a sad experience with the same man. I don't know that we will come back. I haven't been treated like that at a golf course before.
Plumas is one of our regular courses. It is in good shape this summer and is fun to play
Surprised.....Pleasantly
We drove about 40 minutes from Rocklin, CA. Most of the nearby courses had tournaments so everything was booked. I decided to take the drive to Plumas Lake and we were pleasantly surprised. The pace was great. Course was not crowded, well maintained and very friendly. We will golf there again.
Hidden Gem
This course is in excellent shape from tee box to green on every hole and the greens are in phenomenal shape and pin placement is awesome
Staff is not the best.
Here is the problem with booking with Golf Now. I wanted to play a practice round on my own since I just got my clubs regriped. I was paired to share a cart with a man who was new to golf, he had no golf lessons and was either his 2nd or 4th time attempting to play. He advised he wanted to play on his own as well. The problem was since I was the one who asked to have my own cart, I was charged an additional $17 cart fee and the man at the Pro shop was a complete jerk about it. He said I got a great deal through Golf Now for $20 when green fees alone are $39. But as i tried to explain, a portion of my $20 payment included a cart so why was i being charged the full $17? The rudeness of the staff here may keep me from coming back.
Nice Course
I have played Plumas over 50 times and decided to write this review. The course is in good shape, not as good when compared to others in the Lincoln and Auburn areas where we normally play. Still, it is a great place to play if you can grab a special price through Golfnow. Just not crowded, staff very friendly, new carts and the 2 guys I played with said the hamburgers they got on the turn, "were great!" I have already booked a tee time for next week. Not a lot of birdie holes because of tough pin placements, but a great selection of tee boxes for golfers of all skills.
Course greenskeeper missing ?
Fairway rough grass at US Open height !! Miss the fairway by more then 3 feet you can't fine your ball in 4-6" grass an where they did mow to 2" the clippings hid your ball !! Then the greens on the back nine were punched n sanded. Had I known this I wouldn't played there. Give us a break. Lost strokes, balls n time as the full foursome kicked the tall grass looking four our ball.
Thank you for the recent review, I am going here for my first time this coming weekend.
I will write my own honest review when I am done.
