Plumas Lake Golf & Country Club
About
Established in 1926, Plumas Lake Golf & Country Club has long been one of the Sacramento Valley's most treasured courses. First opened as a nine-hole layout, the course expanded to a full 18 holes in 1960. Mature oak trees line the lush fairways and small greens and there is also a canal that snakes through the entire property, coming into play on 12 holes. There are also strategically placed bunkers protecting the greens. You're in for a formidable test on this golf course but the rough is quite manageable and the layout isn't particularly long or hilly. Plumas Lake's 10th is one of the most memorable holes. This tough hole is a short par 5 that requires an accurate drive over a creek that crosses the fairway before you're faced with an elevated green.

Need Some Course Knowledge Stay away from trees
Hadn't played this course in probably 10 years. I was very impressed with the course once I started play. The fairways and bunkers were in very good shape and the greens were excellent. The pin placements were very tough because of a tournament they played this day. With the drought conditions this course is in great condition. There are a lot of bunkers and trees and so many of the fairways are right to left and left to right, need to place your shots and not try to bomb everything. A group let us play through as we were a twosome and we finished in just under 4 hours taking our time. Also I might add that I generally do not eat breakfast before I play but I did eat here and for $5.95 this breakfast beats Denny"s hands down. Everyone here, very friendly, this always makes for a good outing. Enjoyed this course and I will be back.
Plumas Lake ---- A Classic Challenge
I've played this course since the 1970's. The greens are far faster and more difficult than the old greens but the rest of the course is a bit more ragged.
I think aerating the fairways occasionally would be helpful; as they used to do in the old days. Fertilizing
the fairways more would also help. The fairway turf
always looks very sad. The course layout is challenging and requires more than bomb and gouge. One must use strategy here and I am never bored by the layout. Again, the greens are really great..........very challenging; the bunkers are well cared for and the trees are thoughtfully maintained.
overall, a wonderful country course. Go Plumas Lake !!!
Plumes of old
Course is taking shape, fairways nicely mowed and rough somewhat long, greens running fast and true
These greens drive me crazy........
Any golfer who thinks Plumas Lake plays e-z must have one heck of a game.....the risk reward here can be costly...and then the greens and pin placements were all behind bunkers on the thin part of the crowned greens....this course is very walkable....
great course
loved it. highly recommend. great stuff would go back
Great Value!!
Great value!! Only thing I can say bad is it didn't come with the range balls the ad said? Said that was for greens fees? Other than that it's five star!!!
golf at plumas lake
course was in great shape, they have trimmed trees through out and remodeled the club house. The greens
are in great shape. They have a new teaching facility with indoor video like the golf channel. Plan to play again soon.
Great Design
I cannot think of a better shotmaking course in the Valley. Not a long course, but protected by challenging small greens and the best placed trees of any golf course in Sacramento area. Formerly one of the best top 10 public golf courses in the USA, I think every hole makes one have to think. Only holes 1 and 13 trees are not a significant impact on the hole...but they are very much a challenge as well. At 6500 yards it has the same course rating as Olympic Club at 6500 yards. I love this place.
Service falls short
I played a round here in the winter, and had a good time. Interesting lay out. Variety of holes.
Last time I went, I showed up as a single, and was told I had to locate the three sum they had paired me with, so I could hitch a ride in his cart. Had to scratch and claw just to get a cart, and the guy made me feel real bad about it. He seemed a little down my first time there, but had no problems.
Plums Lakes
Good valley course, played here many years ago and course is virtually unchanged. Except some holes are tougher because of growth of trees. Easily accessible from West Roseville yet has a country atmosphere.
Greens are in good shape and challenging.
Lots of Water Hazards very little water
Second time I have played this course. The fairways were mostly dead grass. Staff was friendly and helpful, but this course needs to be maintained better. Another difficulty is if you do not know the course very well the Soccer Ball Golf holes can distract you from where you should be aiming.
worth the price paid
Lots of wind to contend with' Prefer a driving range where you can use your driver, Greens were beat up to have an effect putting on four different occasions.
Dead
This was one of the worst kept courses I have ever played. The rough hasn't been cut in a few weeks and the fairways are dead. You can't hold the greens my suggestion would be to water it. Was once a beautiful course upkeep went way down hill the last 6 or so months
Good Challenge
Plumas Lake has two holes, #2 and #11, that require almost perfect drives. Really a challenge and fun.
Plumas lake golf
Grass is very hard! But it's California ! The pace was nice and staff is friendly.
Met some great people
Course was in great shape. Had a great time. Will play it again soon.
the green's and bunkers are in great condition!
This course has a lot of potential. Course management is key. First time playing here and I will be back when the fairways dry up due to the recent rain. Overall I enjoyed my round.
Get what you pay for
ive played here 10-20 times, course layout is challenging with lots of trees. This was the worse condition ive ever seen this course in. I dond know if they are letting the fairways die to re seed or what but every fairway is brown and totally dead. Lots of old guys who walk play here so pace can be slow but most are courteous enough to let you play through. The greens are green but not well maintained tons of hopping puts nobody fixes divots. Carts are good but no gps and markers on the trees can be off quite a bit depending on pon placement. In summary i really like this course and for $14 with a cart on special cant beat the price but maintinance is an issue for sure
Nice course
played many times and will play many more times. The course as all the challenges one could ask for. Was enjoyable to play
Poor winter condtions
Positive: finished in 3.5 hrs with cart and weather was nice.
Negative: Far off the main road. Typical valley course; flat and a bit boring. Tee boxes were fair but distance between white, black etc tees was minimal at many holes. Fairways were thin dead Bermuda grass with many lies hitting off wet clay mud. If you got off the main fairway into the "rough" right or left, it was hitting on relatively short grass and a much better lie.
Natural drainage ways had been cleared of natural vegetation, so some of the challenge and course ambiance was removed. Some greens had steep slopes. On the front nine, one green had a bowl shape. Several greens felt like playing at a miniature golf course with the multi levels and hole placement at the top edge of a slope. Once at Plumas Lakes is enough for me. I will pay more money for a better experience.
This "player" may not realize that Bermudagrass goes dormant during the winter months; it's not dead. The rough is supposed to be "rough". Working on better technique to make our shots stop on the greens is always helpful. The course "went downhill" because it became winter. No greens keeper can stop winter.
